Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been named the Young Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA). 

The 20 year-old who scored 10 goals in his first season in the Premier League was proclaimed winner at a gala ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel, London on Sunday. He edged out Harry Kane, Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, Jack Butland and Philippe Coutinho to win the highly coveted prize.

“I’m honoured to win such a prestigious award and I have to say thank-you to all the players who voted for me in Premier League and in the lower leagues as well,”

“It’s been a good year for me and I’ve obviously got a lot of people to thank, especially the gaffer for giving me my chance. 

“I’ve always been quite confident in my own ability but maybe I didn’t expect things to happen this quickly. ”
