Yaya Toure wins BBC African Footballer of the year award

Manchester
City star, Yaya Toure has won the BBC African Footballer of the year award. He
defeated Yacine Brahimi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew and Sadio Mane
to clinch the coveted prize in London. He has also joined the likes of Kanu
Nwankwo.
and Jay Jay Okocha who have won the award twice,
having won it in 2013.

“I am very proud. To receive this dedication from the
fans is unbelievable. Also I want to pay tribute to the other nominees. African
football is growing up, becoming much better and we have fantastic young
players coming through now. I am delighted and very happy. And as an African
player, I want to lead all my younger brothers to be successful in the future.
When I was a kid I was always dreaming of being an important player. I have
sacrificed a lot. I will continue to try to win a trophy every year, I will
fight to win a personal trophy.”
The Ivorian told BBC

"African players lack hunger for success and are indisciplined" – Yaya Toure, Samson Siasia

Ivory Coast international football player, Yaya Toure who was recently nominated for the 2015 Ballon d’Or award is not impressed with the fact that he is the only African player to make the shortlist. He mentioned that only few African footballers are always recognised for top awards because others lack the hunger for success. Speaking recently with France Football, the 4-time African footballer of the year said
“I admit that I see too many of them acting casually. You’d say that they’re not always very hungry. Not hungry enough, for my taste. They’re not conscious enough of the effort required to get to the very top. Of course it can go quite quickly at the start. Too quickly, without a doubt. But when it comes to climbing the final steps to get to the very top with Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, there’s no longer anyone left.

“They let themselves go too quickly sometimes. They’re in their world. They think they’ve arrived — the most beautiful, the strongest — but they don’t understand that there are other steps to climb to get to the top. Unfortunately a lot of them only see the good side in this job: easy money, girls, nights out, nice cars, nice clothes. They abandon the idea of catching the best too quickly. They don’t always know how to suffer.”
Sharing the Ivorian’s point of view, ex Nigeria international Samson Siasia identified indiscipline as one of the problems of most African players. He added that they are more concerned about fashion trends than improving on their careers.
He told Ultimate FM in Kumasi, Ghana, “It’s a very myopic mind that the African players have. When you reach a certain stage, you have to continue to improve like the Messis and Ronaldos. But the African player doesn’t want to do that.”

“They think they’ve seen and done it all. They come back home with earrings and Balotelli-like hairstyles and not disciplined anymore. They forget they are at a stage where they need to continue to improve.”
He also questioned their attitude towards national team call ups.
“Look at the European and South American players. Right from U-17, Messi has continued to improve. When they’re called they are the first ones to turn up. With African players, you ask them to report on Monday, they report on Wednesday. If your national team made you, then you need to repay your country.”

“I was afraid Messi would nutmeg me and embarrass me in front of my family” Yaya Toure on Barca/Man City UCL clash

Hilarious! In a recent interview with Rio Ferdinand of BT
Sports, Manchester City midfielder,  Yaya
Toure revealed that he was desperate to avoid being nutmegged and embarrassed by
Barcelona star, Lionel Messi in the Champions League last season. The football
world will never forget how the Argentinian nutmegged City’s James Milner during
last season’s 1-0 win at the Nou Camp. The 4-time African footballer of the year revealed that he prayed he
wouldn’t be subjected to such humiliation by the 3-time Ballon d’or winner.
‘Last year in the dressing room, he jokingly
said he will nutmeg me. I saw him nutmeg two of my team-mates and thought he’d
do it to me. Whenever he came near me I screamed inside ‘please not me, don’t
nutmeg me’, my family is watching. I was afraid he’d embarrass me infront of my
family.’
The Ivorian said.

Overspeeding: Yaya Toure to stand trial on December 3

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure faces
a court trial after admitting to driving at 101mph on a motorway. The 32 year-old Ivorian footballer was

Yaya Toure considering international retirement.

Yaya Toure is considering whether to retire from international football and has asked to be omitted from Ivory coast’s squad for September’s clash with Sierra Leone. Toure has won 100caps for Ivory Coast and captioned the country to victory in February’s African Nations Cup final for the first time in 23 years.
The 32 year-old midfielder has played in three world cups and six African Nations cup but is now debating whether to carry on representing his country.
Ivory Coast manager Michel Dussuyer has urged the former Barcelona and Monaco player to carry on representing his country.
He told reporters: “Yaya Toure is in a period of reflection about his international future. I hope he will continue”.

Toure has started every game for Premier League leaders City so far this season but manager Manuel Pellegrini has stated he believes his vice captain has had a heavy workload in recent seasons partly because of his commitments for his country.
His older brother Kolo, a former city player who joined Liverpool in 2013, announced his international retirement earlier this year. Yaya and Kolo Toure are two of the only five players who have won 100caps for Ivory Coast.

"I can play till I'm 40" – Yaya Toure

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure has said he can continue playing active football until he is 40 while also debunking news link him with another club. The ivorian made this known at a press conference in Melbourne where his club will take on Real Madrid today.

“There was too much speculation about me leaving – it’s clear that I have my contract at City and I want to see out my contract. I have always known for 32years that I can play until 40 because I know my quality and that’s all” he said.
Toure, 32, joined Manchester City from Barcelona in 2010 and has helped the club to win a number of titles including the EPL.

AFCON Victory: The coach made things difficult for me- Yaya Toure.

Ivory Coast captain, Yaya Toure has heaped praises on their manager, Herve Renard and goalkeeper Boubacar Barry for inspiring them to victory at the just concluded AFCON tournament.
Recall that Ivory Coast ended their 22-year AFCON drought after beating Ghana 9-8 during the penalty shootout last night.
The elated midfielder told reporters. “When you win with your club it’s quite amazing but with your country it’s unbelievable.

I’ve been waiting I don’t know how many years to lift this trophy – as captain it is something special. The luck came to our side today. I’m delighted and very happy.”

“I’ve failed twice in final and it was hard to take. Today is fantastic. It was a great stress because of the penalties.
“I must congratulate Copa [Barry]. He showed us the true example of solidarity. The manager has been brilliant for us. Without the manager we would have won nothing. He knows very well football in Africa. He made things difficult for me. He told me if I didn’t run he’d kick me out. He’s fantastic.”
