Spanish football club, Rayo Vallecano has named one of its stadium gates after late Nigerian goal keeper, Wilfred Agbonavbare. Willie The Cat as fondly called who passed on on tuesday at age 48 after a long time battle with cancer played over a hundred games for Rayo Vallecano between 1990 and 1996.
Spanish newspaper, AS reports that the club’s board of directors held a meeting on Wednesday and decided to appreciate the Edo-born skipper’s dedication to the club by naming the Gate 1 of the Vallecas Stadium “Gate Wilfred Agbonavbare”.
The ex Nigeria international was buried next to his wife in Spain. The occasion was attended by his children, Wilson and Wintia, Rayo Vallecano President, Raul Martin Presa and other dignitaries.
