The Queen of Africa dolls, made by Taofick Okoyo a Nigerian businessman based in the UK has started outselling popular barbie dolls in Nigeria. Taofick decided to venture into the trade in 2007 after he couldn’t find a black doll in the stores for his niece.

The dolls which is modelled on the Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba tribes come with traditional outfits and accessories and sells for £4.50. They hope to promote feminine ideals like love, peace and endurance.

“My mission is to make the Queens of Africa dolls a symbol of hope, trust and confidence by promoting African history, culture and fashion.” The 43 year-old told Elle magazine
