Oliseh impressed as Super Eagles defeat Burkina Faso

 
Super Eagles
manager, Sunday Oliseh has expressed delight over the team’s performance at the
Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt today. Nassaraw United’s Bature
Yaro and Warri Wolves’ Gbolahan Salami fired Nigeria to a 2-0 win against
Burkina Faso in the first leg final fixture. 
Speaking to
supersport.com in a post-match interview, Oliseh lauded his men’s efforts but noted
that it is not yet a convincing victory for the team.
 “The home Eagles fared very well against their
opponents, Les Etalons of Burkina Faso. This is our first match with the
home-based Super Eagles and I think it came off quite well. However, I think we
have not won anything yet going into the second leg fixture in Ouagadougou, if
we could score two goals here nothing stops the Burkinabes scoring same number
of goals in the reverse fixture.

“So we will prepare
harder with more organised mind to win well and secure the CHAN ticket right
there in Ouagadougou for Nigerians. He added that “The
Burkinabes were somehow flawless and combustive, I think they gave my charges a
strong run for their money. It will be an entertaining and interesting reverse
fixture right there in Ouagadougou. ”

The winner of the second
round will automatically qualify for the final CHAN tournament in Rwanda in
2016.

Why I made Ahmed Musa captain -Sunday Oliseh

Men’s national team coach, Sunday Oliseh has lifted the lid on why he stripped goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama of his captaincy role and handed it over to Ahmed Musa. Speaking on Brilla radio, Oliseh said:

”I want a captain who is disciplined. A leader who can motivate other players. A player who comes to camp early. I want a young player not a retiring player as captain. And Ahmed Musa is that player. He is my captain. When you have a new government like our honourable president just came in, he’s picked his ministers. And you have your philosophy and you have your way of working.”‎

He continued, “As a coach I have looked at the team and I have looked at Nigeria going forward. We need a captain who will think of staying with Nigeria for several years to come, who is regularly in the front. And Ahmed Musa did a great job for us in Tanzania under very difficult circumstance. He is a very responsible player and he is the captain of the team. So he is the captain of the team, there is no question of a tussle.

“The fact that I would like to have somebody (as captain) who is thinking of playing now and not somebody who is preparing for retirement or thinking of life after-football. And I think it’s time we had peace and quiet around the Super Eagles. That is why I am glad that most of the players here are finding ways to work as a team because I get the feeling now that they are aware that they are representing 170 million people.”‎

"Nobody will insult my mother". Vincent Enyeama speaks on his row with Oliseh.

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama is very displeased with his ill treatment by the head coach, Sunday Oliseh over his lateness to the training camp. The Lille skipper arrived a day after the Monday deadline after attending his mother’s funeral over the weekend in his home town. That apparently didn’t go down well with the coach who also handed the captaincy role to CSKA Moscow player, Ahmed Musa. Enyeama  told  football pundit, Colin Udoh that the ex international’s action took him by surprise.

“So I stood up to explain my position and ask for an explanation, but the coach asked me to sit down.‎ I insisted on speaking because I felt that with the years of dedicated service I have given to the country I deserve at least the respect of giving my own side. But he told me that either the whole team would leave the room for me, or I would have to leave the room for the whole team.”

“There has been a lot of incidents these last few months. I don’t need it, the team does not need it, so maybe the best thing might be to step aside in the interest of the country so that the team can focus on football instead of distractions.” He said.‎




He vented his anger on instagram.

Drama as Oliseh sends Vincent Enyeama packing from Super Eagles training camp

Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was sent packing from the Super Eagles training camp following his late arrival. Football investigator, Muyiwa Lawal reported that the Lille skipper apologised for his late coming but was told to shut up and leave. He thereafter called the security when Enyeama didn’t leave. Lawal said it is not unlikely  that Enyeama’s absence in the last game is the chief reason Oliseh reacted this way. There are reports that he could face more sanctions.

But hey, this dude lost his mother that period and apologised for not turning up. The NFF should look into this, if truly he was sent out because of that reason then that action is pathetic. He deserves more respect. 🙁 🙁

I advised Victor Moses to leave Chelsea – Sunday Oliseh

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh has revealed that he advised Victor Moses to leave Chelsea for a club where he will get regular playing chances.‎ Moses joined West Ham United on a season-long loan deal on May 31.

“I spoke to Victor Moses. I told him that he played so many games for Stoke City last season. I also told him that with the many players Mourinho was buying in the summer, I was not sure (Moses) would get to play very much.

“I told him I needed a Moses that was playing matches regularly at club level. Moses then told me that he would do anything to play for Nigeria and informed me that he would be speaking to his manager the next day. As we all know, Moses is now with West Ham where he is virtually guaranteed regular football week in week out,” 
He continued,  “A fit Victor Moses would have done us a world of good (in that game against Tanzania). The moment he returns to fitness, I will call him up to the national team because we need him as we need the best to play for us.

He also stressed that ‎players who are not playing regularly at their clubs will not be called up because it will be difficult to ascertain the level of their fitness.

“It will also be unfair to keep those who play regularly for their clubs on the bench and play those who are not simply because they play for some big club.” He concluded.

Former NFF Technical Committee chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has appealed to Nigerians to give Super Eagles manager, Sunday Oliseh

more time to succeed. Oliseh came a little bit under fire after Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played in Dar es Salaam against Tanzania ended in a goalless draw. The ex Secretary General of the NFF believes the team would improve in subsequent games.

“We need to give them time, let’s see what will happen; thank God we played out a 0-0 draw but we need them to do better next time. Football is not mathematics; we wanted a win in Dar es Salaam but what happened is beyond our imagination. However, we are still going to meet Egypt, home and away and with what Chad did when they came to Nigeria, I don’t think it will be easy for Egypt to beat them. At the end of the day, I still see the Eagles qualifying,’’ he said.

Obafemi Martins eyes Eagles return, denies retiring from international football

Nigeria international, Obafemi Martins is reportedly eyeing a return to the Oliseh-led Super Eagles squad. The Seattle Sounders striker if given the chance is certain he will prove his‎ mettle and score more goals for the team.

“I hope I will soon get another chance to score goals for Nigeria again and I also believe that with time and a little more patience the Eagles will come back to winning ways under new coach Sunday Oliseh.  He has gotten all the experience we need in a coach, he has played the game before and I am really happy to see him in eagles again.”

The former Levante forward who has scored 18 goals for in 39 appearances for Nigeria also denied calling time on his international career adding that he was misquoted by the media.‎

“I never announced my retirement, in any form or anyway, it was not official at all, I was unhappy to be treated as if am not a Nigerian footballer, I have represented Nigeria, at the Nations Cup, World Cup, and I still want to play more, it’s a new eagles now, led by Oliseh, so why will I retire now, I am still young.” He said
