Lionel Messi reacts to claims he bailed out Ronaldinho from jail.

Barcelona icon, Lionel Messi has denied reports claiming he bailed out Barcelona and Brazil legend, Ronaldinho from jail in Paraguay. Ronaldinho and his elder brother his brother Roberto Assis, who is also his business manager, were arrested and incarcerated in Paraguay on  March 6 for attempting to enter the country with false Paraguayan passports and ID cards.

After 32 days in jail, they were released from Paraguayan prison on bail this week and there are reports that the Argentine paid $1.6 million (£1.3m) to secure their release. Their mobile phones which were confiscated by investigators after their arrest so they could review files and messages on the phones were returned last week.

‘What they said in this same newspaper about Newell’s [Old Boys] a few weeks ago was also false, Thank goodness that nobody believes them anymore.’ He posted on his instagram story.

The Brazilian brothers were denied bail three times previously but on Tuesday a judge granted them house arrest in exchange for a bail payment of $1.6 million saying “It’s a significant bail in cash to guarantee they will not flee,” judge Gustavo Amarilla said. The decision was relayed via a video call due to the Coronavirus crisis.

They can’t go home yet and so will be placed under police custody at a luxury hotel in Asuncion, in the Paraguayan capital and will be allowed to receive visitors. Interestingly, he played football while in detention. His team won the game 11-2. Ronaldinho scored five goals & assisted the other six. The team were rewarded with a 16kg smoked pig.

The inmates at the detention unit in Asuncion reportedly burst into tears when they learnt of his release and they hurriedly held a barbecue to say goodbye to him.

Ronaldinho is back at Barca!

Spanish giant, FC Barcelona have confirmed the return of Ronaldinho to the club. The football legend  who spent five seasons at the club and played 207 times for the Catalans between 2003 and 2008, scoring 94 goals and winning the 2005-6 Champions League as well as back-to-back Liga titles has agreed to be a Club ambassador & representative at various events & activities.
A club statement read: “FC Barcelona and Ronaldinho have reached an agreement whereby the Brazilian will become a Club ambassador and representative at various events and activities over the coming years.
“Ronaldinho will also form part of the Legends project, a team of former players who, through matches around the world, will help to globalise the Barça brand and its values, and will take part in clinics, training sessions and institutional events, among other activities organised by the Club.


“Through FCBEscola, FC Barcelona and Ronaldinho’s football academies will be seeking different ways to collaborate both in terms of the brand and possible associations with the same. The player will also appear in the opening and closing ceremonies at some schools and take part in activities in which he will share his experience in educational talks.
“Ronaldinho will also take part in FC Barcelona Foundation events related to UNICEF. The Masia 360 project will be another one of the Club projects where the Brazilian will be present, helping with the training and coaching of the athletes involved.
“The agreement will be signed on Friday at 5.30pm CET at the Camp Nou directors’ box with the presence of Ronaldinho and president Josep Maria Bartomeu. Then, the media will be to take photos of the Brazilian star at the club museum.”
Reacting to the news, Barcelona coach, Luis Enrique said, “I think it is great that Ronaldinho is a Club ambassador. Linking Barça to joy is always a good thing”

Ronaldinho prefers a different attacking trio to MSN

While Barcelona’s attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have been deemed the best forwards in football history, Brazilian football icon, Ronaldinho doesn’t agree with this line of thought. Not even Real Madrid’s BBC- made up of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo comes close. The 36 year-old maintained that the trident during his spell at Barcelona were much stronger forces .

“The two tridents made history in their time with the club. Each one in his time did very well. But I prefer mine with Eto’o and Messi,” he said in a recent chat.
Ronaldinho Eto’o and Messi – played together for four seasons from 2004/2005 before he left the Spanish club at the end of the 2007/2008 season.
He also tipped his compatriot, Neymar to be the world best. “Neymar is already on the threshold of the best, I think one day he will be one of the best in the world, Brazilians hope that happens because he is our best player,” he said.

Ronaldinho, Gudjohnsen offer to play for Chapecoense for free!

In the wake of the Colombia plane crash that killed 71 people, including members of Brazilian football team Chapecoense, a week ago, while going for their Copa Sudamericana final first leg against Atletico Nacional, Brazilian football legend, Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, also known as Ronaldinho, has reportedly come out of retirement to sign for Chapecoense and will play for them for free.

Former Iceland international, Eidur Gudjohnsen, has also offered his services to Chapecoense adding that a reunion with his former Barca team-mate would be an added bonus.

 Gudjohnsen posted on Twitter: ‘Out of respect I would play for Chapecoense if they have a place for me! ‘If not just to play with Ronaldinho again.’

Ronaldinho to retire from football


One of the greatest players to ever grace the round leather game, Ronaldinho is considering retiring  from professional football.

The 36-year-old who has been without a club since
he left Fluminense last September is considering hanging his boots. “I am an
old man now, I am 36. I am no longer 26 like I once was, and I am
looking at what I can do to mark an end to my career. The plan is to play one
more year.”
But before he calls time on his career, the
Brazilian is also considering a spell in the US. “I’ve had the chance to
play (in the U.S.) many times. I have a lot of friends, many directors at
clubs. And now I’ve got the chance to play there again. It’s an option, but
what I most want is to have the chance to travel, to promote the things I want
to do.”

The Barcelona, PSG and Brazil soccer icon has won 1
World Cup, 2 La Liga trophies, 1 UEFA Champions League, 2 FIFA World Player of
the year, Golden Foot award, Best soccer player ESPY award.

Ronaldinho tricked us into believing he was joining Real Madrid – Iniesta

Excerpts from Barcelona legend, Andres Iniesta’s new book, ‘The Artist: Being Iniesta’ is gaining traction online. The ace midfielder made a startling revelation of how, ex Barcelona, Ronaldinho told him he was joining Real Madrid from Barcelona ….. at the end they realised he was playing mind games.
‘A few days before the Clásico, Dinho called me at home at night.  ‘Andrés, I know it’s 3am, but I have to confess something. In June I’ll leave Barça. I have an agreement with Real Madrid.’
It’s an incredible amount that I can’t refuse. Please do not tell anyone in the locker room or the club, do not betray me, I trust you more than anyone.’
‘He didn’t give me time to say anything. The next day, we were in training and I felt an awkward atmosphere. The whole team was silent and they were all greeting Ronaldinho like never…’
‘When the day of the Clásico came, in the locker rooms of the Bernabéu Dinho told: ‘Guys, today is a very important game, they are strong, but these days I discovered that we’re a family. I called you all during the night and I told you that I was leaving in June, but none of you spoke.’
‘I realised that we were ready to suffer in silence rather than betray each other. I’ll stay here for a long time… Now let’s go into the field and learn Madrid a lesson!”

Ronaldinho denies retiring from professional football

Brazilian football legend, Ronaldinho has denied tales
making rounds that he has retired from professional football. The former Barcelona
player whose contract with Fluminense was cancelled few months after joining
the club said calling time on his international career hasn’t crossed his
mind.
“Finishing my
career at this time has not crossed my mind. I still like football, I am in
good health and I am a competitive person,” The 35 year-old told reporters.

Brazilian club Fluminense today terminated  the contract of 35 year-old Barcelona legend, Ronaldinho by mutual consent after making only 9 appearances for the club and failing to get on the score sheet . 

Below is an official statement from the club.‎

“Fluminense hereby announces the breaking of the contract with Ronaldinho Gaucho amicably and in mutual agreement between the two parties. From the first contact with club officials, the athlete and his representative addressed the club with professionalism and respect. The same positive attitude was demonstrated in training with the club.

Fluminense and Ronaldinho hope to maintain ties and plan to work on other projects in the future. It should be noted that signing Ronaldinho successfully brought expectations regarding the marketing return, increasing income with box office sales of shirts and number of partners.

Ronaldinho debunks rumours that he's planning to retire

Brazilian soccer super star, Ronaldinho has refuted rumours going rounds that he is planning to hang his boot. The ex Barcelona player who signed a two-year deal with Queretaro last year set the records straight in a press conference on Friday.

“First of all, I had to tell you that the rumour about my retirement is not true. I’m so happy at the moment and the idea of quitting is not in my thoughts. 

“I don’t know if I’ll stay on for five or six years, but while things are still going well, there’s no reason for leaving. 

“I’m happy and in my best moment since I arrived in Mexico, so I’m going to continue doing what I know how to do best.

“I’ll keep working on being the player providing the most assists until the end of the season. I need to score more goals, but I’m still helping the team.”
