Falcons legend, Perpetua Nkwocha to wed on Monday

Come Monday, 28 March 2016, Assistant coach of the Super Falcons, Perpetua Nkwocha, will be joined in holy matrimony with Ernest Ikechukwu Nwufoh. The marriage will be held at Our Lady Carmel Catholic Church, Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, by 12noon.
 The 40 year-old participated in seven African Women Championship final competitions in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, winning gold in five of editions (2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014). Nkwocha was voted African Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). She was also African Women Championship Top Scorer three times – 2004, 2006 and 2010.

Nigeria's Perpetua Nkwocha to end international career.

Sweden-based Nigerian football legend, Perpetua Nkwocha will be calling time on her illustrious career after the Women’s World Cup in Canada which kicks off in few weeks. The Four-time African Footballer of the year who will be making her 4th appearance at the tournament after featuring in the 2003, 2007, 2011  revealed this to BBC Sport

“This will definitely be my last world cup appearance and I want to make it count. Our success at the last African women championship shows that we’ve got a very competitive Super Falcons side.

“I am surrounded by a some experienced players and talented young ones, I believe we’ll give it our all in Canada.” The 39 year-old said.‎

The veteran striker in an interview last year disclosed that she plans to become a coach after retirement. She was voted African Women Footballer of the Year in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011 by Confederation of African Football (CAF). With the Nigeria national team, she has participated in three CAF Women’s Championship (2002, 2004, and 2006), winning all three of them.‎

VICTOR MOSES, MIKEL, STEPHEN KESHI, BLESSING OKAGBARE OTHERS SHINE AT THE NIGERIAN SPORTS AWARD

Nigerian international, Victor Moses has edged out John Obi Mikel and Sunday Mba to win the Nigerian Footballer of the Year award 2013. Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi also defeated Man Garba, Golden Eaglets coach to win the Nigerian Coach of the year award.

The ceremony took place at the Muson Centre,Onikan, Lagos on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Super Falcon’s Perpetual Nkwocha also won the female footballer of the year award.

MIKEL OBI WINS DOUBLE AT NIGERIA PITCH AWARDS. + LIST OF WINNERS

Chelsea FC midfielder scooped two awards at the maiden edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, which took place at the Pearl Hall of Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar on Saturday 16th November, 2013. The ex-PSG player won Best Midfielder and King of Pitch (Player of the Year), prominent female footballer, Perpetua Nkwocha, also clinched the Queen of Pitch award.
No member of Super Eagles team (coach and players) were present at the occasion, despite being lodged in the same hotel where the event took place. Shina Phillip, co-ordinator of the awards couldn’t help but voice out his disappointment, “Our players need to be schooled about how to be socially responsible. I don’t hold anything against them because I want to adduce their attitude to the fact that they needed rest ahead of their trip to London for the engagement against Italy. But even at that, a five minute appearance would have been enough for them.”
Governor Liyel Imoke however commended the team for their groundbreaking feats. “It is a long time that our country, our people have had so much to celebrate within a short span of time. We have just won the FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy only eight days after lifting the FIFA U-17 World Cup to set a global record. In fact, the successes have piled up so high that we are almost forgetting that it is in this same year that we won the Africa Cup of Nations.”
