Skintimidation; a Nollywood phenomenon | By: Daniel Boyle
It is no longer news that our celebrities are going white! And that’s because you have to be “camera friendly” says the producer. A friend of mine says “you have to be seen by the producer from 200km away”
If you have been a fervent follower of Nollywood, you would notice this gradual change as the actresses you used to refer to as “dark skinned” are now called “caramel abi chocolate”
I won’t call names oh, but you should decode this fast; one of them used to be a model, she’s in her forties now and was sometime married to a white man. She’s been a brand ambassador to a big telecoms company as well as our favourite seasoning powder.
The second one is the ultimate diva who is known to be box office material, compare these two movies and contrast the skin tone “ijele” and “ije”
The third one is our darling sweet heart, short and full of life (with a white husband) who is known now to be producing her own movies…
These three were originally known as “dark skinned” but today? The lord has been gracious to them that their blessing came with a new skin.
Even the music industry isn’t any duller as our boys are making us proud skin-wise, with our Naija lil wayne denying that he isn’t bleaching, well he isn’t! Lol he is toning (that’s the way its been put out mildly).
Another brother, whose career is not so blooming even after much “toning” is another case study, his name is coined from a continent and an asian country….. You can also add the short calabar dude who rose to fame with his partner from a beer company’s competition.
It is called “Skintimidation”, where your skin tone gets you the job! Or the signing. Though I remain indifferent over celebrities wanting to even out their skin (to show their arrival)
It’s just that they need not say a word about it…don’t go to social media to deny it!
That’s how that ghollywood actress who says she has the “best legs in the game” caused much buzz after she threw a campaign of denial.
Ehen, speaking of Ghollywood….they too are catching up as their actresses are shining bright like diamonds too…need I mention the one with fine face, good hips and knock knees? Or the one who is fat this year and slim the other year….y’all know her na? Her name is similar to popular Chinese actor “chan”
And I can’t even end this gist without mentioning our papa in the yoruba and english movie industry, he is always taking up the “big man” role and like I said, despite the burnt face, his colour landed him a role in the very popular soap, Tinsel. (Runs off)

PHOTOS: STELLA DAMASUS AND DANIEL ADEMINOKAN UNVEIL 'CODE 55' STORE
From being friends to business partners, maybe some people just need to come out clean. Maybe they are just friends and nothing more. Remember I said maybe.
Nollywood actress Stella Damasus and director, Daniel Ademinokan have just launched their multi-millionnaira store, “Code 55” in Abuja.
But what exactly is behind the name Code 55? “People say there is a mystery about me and they say the same thing about Stella. But trust me, maybe you have to buy a decoder before you can decode who we are. For the 55, I was born 31 July and Stella is 24 April. If you add 31 and 24, you will get 55″. Now that’s a cool one, don’t you think? I love the idea behind it.” Daniel Ademinokan who was once married to Doris Simeon explained.
Situated at Index Two Studio Plaza, Road 69, Gwarinpa II Abuja, it boasts of a unisex boutique and a music studio for live bands and music-related events.
