Court strips Ibinabo Fiberesima off her position as AGN President

Actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who is in incarceration has been stripped of her role as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Her fierce rival, Emeka Ike will take over. The revelation was made by the National Secretary of AGN, Femi Durojaiye.
“The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, this morning 23/3/2016 at the application and argument of Counsel to Actors Guild of Nigeria, Barr. Peter Andor Oboyi, struck out Ibinabo’s and BOT suit challenging the nullification of her election to the Presidency of AGN and also challenging the legitimacy of the Presidency of Emeka Ike and his Exco. The implication of this judgement is that Engr. Emeka Ike led Exco remain the only authentic and lawful leaders of Actors Guild of Nigeria,”
“The Honourable Court vehemently reiterated the position of the judicial authority that, Ibinabo, her purported exco members and the Board of Trustees vacate forthwith the office of AGN both at the National and State level and accordingly surrender all AGN assets at their unlawful possession to the incumbent Engr Emeka Ike’s Government.”

I almost committed suicide- Ibinabo Fiberesima opens up on her ordeal

Embattled actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima who recently bagged a 5-year sentence for  the death of one Dr Giwa Suraj who she killed in an auto accident along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos in 2016 has opened up on her ordeal. The ex beauty queen disclosed to Vanguard that she always reach out to the family of the deceased.

“I am always praying for the family of the accident victim, Dr. Giwa Suraj.
“Emotionally, I have been drained and to some extent humiliated, even in public. I wasn’t happy that I was involved in that accident. I have said it over and over again that I’m deeply sorry that it ever happened.
“I don’t know how else to atone for the accident. I started begging my victim’s family from the very day the accident happened. My family attended the funeral rites and service of songs and I even attended the 40 days prayer when I was not strong enough to move about.
“I met with the mother and the wife of the deceased. There’s virtually nothing I didn’t do to plead with the family of the deceased to let me off the hook. I’m still pleading with them as I speak with you right now, even though they banned me from coming to see them, they warned me to stop coming to their house. So, I can only pray for them and that’s what I did always.”

Court denies Ibinabo Fiberesima bail.

Actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima’s attempt to get released on bail has met a brickwall. For those who are not familiar with her story,  she recently bagged a 5-year jail term  for ramming into the vehicle of a certain Dr Giwa Suraj along Lekki-Epe expressway in February 2006 and causing his death.

The AGN President had asked to be released on bail while the Supreme Court hears her appeal against the appellate court’s judgment in which her five-year sentence for manslaughter was upheld. Her lawyer, Victor Eden in an affidavit of urgency filed in support of her bail application, revealed that she had just undergone surgery to remove breast cancer and needed monitoring.
.

“It will be in the interest of justice and for her health and safety for the appellant to be admitted to bail pending the hearing and determination of the appellant’s appeal before the Supreme Court,” Eden said.
However, a three-man panel presided over by Justice Ndukwe-Anyanwu denied the mother of five bail yesterday, saying  the appellant failed to attach copies of the judgment that was delivered by the court on March 11th, 2016 which affirmed the five years jail term imposed on her.
The case was then adjourned till April 7th 2016 for the hearing of the bail application.

"Justice At Last". Sister of doctor killed in accident caused by Ibinabo Fiberesima writes an open letter.

Biola Giwa-Adeyemi, a sister to the late Dr Suraj Giwa killed in an accident caused by actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima has expressed satisfaction over the verdict. Last weekend, the AGN President lost her bid to have a 5-year jail  term overturned. Read Biola’s open letter below.

First of all, the case was between Lagos state Government Vs Ibinabo Febresima but not Giwa Vs Ibinabo Febresima. On this faithful day of February 26, 2006 along the Lekki Epe Express way, my late brother Dr Giwa was driving with his brother and another family friend in his car coming from a meeting in Ajah, they were held up in a traffic around the evening time, when this tragic accident happened.
//
Ibinabo was driving towards Lekki while the late Dr Giwa was coming from the other direction facing towards Island, just by shop-rite, when Ibinabo’s jeep flipped and lost control from her lane jumped over the culvert or pavement  that demarcate the road from the on coming vehicle.
The speed that

//

skipped and flipped a jeep over the road demarcation will be considered ‘Reckless and Endangerment‘ because the VIO dept checked the jeep brakes, the engine and all the mechanical and electrical of the jeep but the result shows nothing wrong with the jeep and confirmed that the accident was caused by ‘OVER SPEEDING’ in which the result was on record.
After the accident, Ibinabo left the scene of the accident without checking for any survivors, she took the license plate and registration out of the car and fled from the scene, that was considered “HIT AND RUN”. The people at the scene of the accident recognized her as Ibinabo Febresima, and stated she was drunk.”Driving Under Influence” of whatever she had.
The State Department of Transportation had to use the VIN number to locate the owner of the jeep, who was Daniel Wilson. That was my very first time of hearing the name of Ibinabo Febresima. The doctor died at the scene of the accident because the jeep was on top of the Honda accord driven by him and they couldn’t save him on time because of the seat belt and the weight of the jeep, his brother and the other family friend in that car survived. Did she know the state of mind and the emotional instability of the people involved in that accident up till now? Ibinabo was never in a coma.
After all the evidences against her, with the result of the VIO by the State department of Transportation, The DPP office took over and charged her to court and she hired Festus Keyamo in which after reviewing the case he withdrew by saying he cannot represent her because it’s a bad case.
Doctor Giwa has a living mother for goodness sake, wife with 3 children, Ibinabo deprived him of  seeing his children graduate from university and getting married, also from being the one to bury his mother at her old age, ‘Whereas no one ever prayed that on the day of their children’s success and happiness they should replace them with someone else’.
Ibinabo was never remorseful, they brought her to meet with me shortly after my brother’s death in GRA Ikeja before my return to the USA, but her only concern then was to drop the charges against her. I told her that it’s not my family Vs her but the State Vs her, that where I come from in USA that we do not interfere with the justice system, that they should do their job and advise her to apologize publicly to the masses and to the family and throw herself to the mercy of the court.
She said and l quote “I CAN’T DO THAT, BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO DAMAGE MY CAREER” what an ego, she cannot apologize publicly, I felt like kicking her ass. She’s worried about her stupid career, What happened to the career of the Doctor, who happened to be a ‘MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION MEDICINE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL LAGOS.
People say there is no justice in Nigeria, but it there is once in a while. The lower court magistrate O.A Isaac found her guilty with the option of 100,000.00 Naira, which is considered a judicial recklessness, 100k does not even buy an iPad, the life of someone is not worth more that 100k, so that people will take the liberty of committing crimes.

//

Later, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of the High court found her guilty and overturned the option of fine and gave her 5 yrs in prison, she spent 3 weeks and came out on bail to go to Court of Appeal, however, how can a convicted person come out on bail, here in USA you will be in jail and they will transport you to and from each time you have an hearing. Finally Appeal court found her guilty and sentence her to 5 years in prison.
Let her face the wrath, it is said that you can run but can’t hide, it’s law of Kama that catches up, this will serve as a deterrent to others. Who will believe after 10yrs she will still be slammed, The Family of the late Dr Giwa has moved on with our lives, She was forgiven, it was very difficult and painful, but God gave us especially his mother and children the fortitude to bear the loss.
On behalf of our families and friends, we really thank the Lagos State Government, The attorney general Mr Sasore, DPP Mrs Odutola and colleagues, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi, Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Justice U.I Udukwe-Anyawu and Justice Tijani Abubakar and everyone for their support, no evil shall befall anyone, as you all go out and come in, may God’s grace and protection abide with each and everyone.
‘JUSTICE AT LAST’ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  JUSTICE AT LAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  JUSTICE IS FINALLY DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!.
“IBINABO HAS NEVER PAID A DIME TO ANY FAMILY MEMBER OF THE LATE DR GIWA AS INDICATED BY HER FRIEND’S, AND IF SHE DID PAY ANY FAMILY MEMBER, SHE NEEDS TO START MENTIONING NAMES NOW”

Ibinabo Fiberesima’s son asks Nigerians to pray for his mum

Sean Coughan, son of embattled actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, has asked Nigerians to pray for his mum who lost an appeal to face 5-year jail term jail for the death of a Doctor in 2005. Read his open letter below.

People of Nigeria, This is Sean, first and proud son of Ibinabo Fiberesima, I write on here today to plead with all Nigerians to pray for my mother. She is going through the toughest of times right now, and so are we, her family. I’ve been reading heartbreaking comments on her matter that ‘she thinks she’s above the law’, ‘she doesn’t feel sorry for the family of the deceased’, ‘she was drunk and deserves this punishment’, let me get a few things straight with you now.

My mother is the most humble woman I know, I was not aware she was a celebrity until I was about 14 and that’s only because my uncle told me, she does not see herself or act as if she is above any other person. She is a proud Nigerian who loves her country and its people.

Secondly, she has been carrying heartbreak around with her for the past 11 years after the accident. She understands the pain for the deceased family and is very hurt about what happened herself. She has tried her utter most to console with the Family, so don’t ever think she does not care.

Thirdly she was not drunk, the charges are reckless and dangerous driving, first of all I refuse to believe my mother was driving recklessly or dangerous, as I’ve been in a car with her countless times and nothing has happened.

On this occasion it was unfortunate, she was unlucky, her car flipped over which happens to a number of cars and another car smashed into her. She was in a comma for days, she could have easily lost her life, but thankfully, by Gods strength only she survived.

She did not set out that day trying to kill someone or herself. Right now my mother is broken, and needs the prayer and support of all Nigerians, so please put all your conspiracies about this matter aside, I know it’s between her and God now.

Join us, myself, Craig her son who is 14, Malcolm and Brian her other sons and her beautiful Daughter Zino who is just 8, and the rest of her family, to pray for my Mother. Let God decide what is just and what is not. Whatever your religion, join us and Pray for my mother as well as the family of the deceased. We can all get through this but not without God.

Thank you for reading, may God bless you all.”

Court upholds actress Ibinabo Fiberesima’s 5-year jail term

A Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the judgement of a High Court which sentenced actress and AGN President,  Ibinabo Fiberesima to 5 years in prison for killing a certain Dr Giwa Suraj. The former beauty Queen in 2005 drove recklessly and rammed into the physician’s vehicle along the Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos.
After the incident, Fiberesima was awarded a N100, 000 fine by an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court upon conviction but the then Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner of justice, Supo Sasore (SAN) was dissatisfied with the judgement and then the case was taken to the Lagos High Court.
At the Lagos High Court, Justice Oluwayemi set aside the option of fine imposed by the Magistrate’s Court and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment for dangerous and reckless driving adding that the option of N100, 000 given to the convict did not serve the purpose of justice in the matter. They also ordered that the N100, 000 should be returned back to Fiberesima.
Fiberesima in her amended appellant brief before the Court of Appeal urged the court to set aside the five-year sentence and restore the decision of the Magistrate Court but the decision was upheld in a ruling yesterday.
The thoroughly distraught thespian burst into tears upon the verdict.
Reacting to the verdict, her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina, said that the judgment would be challenged at the Supreme Court adding that a Notice of Appeal had already been filed.

The AGN leadership tussle between Ibinabo Fiberesima and Emeka Ike is far from over.

The last has not been heard of the tussle between actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima and actor Emeka Ike over the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Few days ago, a Federal High Court in lagos voided the election of the ex-beauty queen as President of the Guild because the election was conducted against a standing court order.
Shortly after the verdict Emeka Ike reportedly told Ibinabo to vacate the seat within 24 hours or face another lawsuit.
Well, there’s a new development in the whole saga. A statement sent to me revealed that the latter planned to invade the National Headquarters of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Surulere, Lagos on Friday 20th March 2015. Excerpts below
The actor, school administrator and politician had invited a cross session of the media and thespians loyal to him to attend his intended takeover of the mantle of leadership from the guild’s current President, Fiberisima Ibinabo.

After the purported overthrow, it was rumoured he would have addressed the media, stating his agenda for the association. Emeka Ike who had the record of court litigations against the headship of the AGN and its Board of Trustees (BOT ) had wanted to rely on the judgment of a Federal HighCourt’s nullification of the presidency of Ibinabo to assume the control of the actors body.

It would be recalled that Justice James Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Lagos had on Monday 15th March, 2015 declared the presiding of the affairs of the AGN by Ibinabo a nullity.
Thereafter, the BOT and the AGN proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Lagos to seek for a reversal of the judgment of JusticeTsoho.

They argued that the honorable judge erred in law in holding that the plaintiff, an expelled member of the guild, St. Maradona Mikevine Johnson has the locus standi to bring the action at the Federal High Court. But luck was against Emeke Ike as his efforts at storming the guild’s office were unfruitful.

While the crew of Channels TV and Silver Bird TV invited by Emeka came in as early as 10 am for the supposed events and met brick wall, correspondents from Television Continental (TVC) and The Sun Newspapers arrived at 12 noon with same fate.

Not even his lieutenants, Don Pedro Aganbi, Paul Obasele, Rachel Oniga and Frank Dallas were on hand to receive the press crew.

It was an upcoming  actor, Tupac that dared showed up; he was sent away by members of the AGN that were there to effect sanity.
He also sent members of the dreaded Odua People’s Congress (OPC) but they soft-pedaled after listening to the AGN;they left without any fuss.
Meanwhile at the close of the day, there were still indications that Emeka Ike mayre-strategise and launch his incursion on Monday, 23rd March, 2015. Attempts at getting him and his second- in -command; Don Pedro to speak on the issue was unsuccessful. The telephone lines of both men were switched off.”

AGN: Courts annuls Ibinabo Fiberesima's election

Justice James Tsoho of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the removal of actress/former beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima as President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on the orders
St. Maradona Mikevine an actor who filed the lawsuit argued that the election that brought Ibinabo into office was conducted in the face of a subsisting court order restraining the conduct of AGN election.
The suit that brought about the initial order was filed by Emeka Ike on July 25, 2013. The court also orders Emeka to take over as the Guild’s president.
