Actor/singer, Gabriel Afolayan travelled down to Seychelles to shoot the video of his new single, titled Awelewa. The video was shot by his elder brother/filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.

“And it’s a Wrap! We just finished shooting the video from Gabriel Afolayan’s new single coming out soon called “Awelewa” . Video entirely shot in Seychelles. Thanks to Africa film factory, Government of Seychelles for the super support, Yureni (Actress from Shrimlanka, shaili the choreography from india, the Dancing group of Seychelles, and the entire crew from Shrimlanka and Seychelles. Well done guys. Watch out.” Kunle wrote.

Ebola Virus: Kunle Afolayan and brother isolated on flight

Nollywood actor, Kunle Afolayan revealed how he and his younger brother, Gabriel Afolayan were isolated on a flight because of the fear of Ebola virus. The award-winning director and his sibling who recently arrived Bel Ombre, Seychelles said they had to go through many protocols simply because they are from West Africa; a region where the EVD is rampant.

“We landed Republic of Seychelles safe and sound. Myself and Gabriel were isolated from the other Kenyan crew that went we us and we were made to sign plenty forms cos we came from west africa (Ebola region). Gabriel didn’t have his yellow fever card so he has to do a test tomorrow and bring the result back to the health section of the airport. Thanks to SBC to the rescue and warm welcome.” He wrote on his facebook page.

THE GODS ARE STILL NOT TO BLAME MOVIE HITS THE CINEMA THIS APRIL

The wait is over. The highly-anticipated flick, “The Gods Are Still Not To Blame” will hit the cinema from April 19.

The star-studded cast of the movie include, Carol King, Bayo Alawiye, Seun Akindele, Iretiola Doyle, Gabriel Afolayan, Gloria Anozie-Young, Kareem Adepoju, Akin Lewis, Yemi Elebuibon, Dele Odule, Bukky Ajayi, Moji Olaiya, Nobert Young, Funsho Adeolu and many more.

Some interesting facts about this highly-anticipated movie include; it was shot in three countries; Nigeria, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire, it brought together veteran and fast-rising (English and Yoruba) thespians together and lastly it employed the use of five languages namely; English, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and French. CAROL KING AND KAREEM ADEPOJU (BABA WANDE) CLASH IN NEW MOVIE ‘THE GODS ARE STILL NOT TO BLAME’

The Nigerian film industry is about to witness a revolution in film making as The Gods Are Still Not To Blame, a modern cinematic adaptation of the Greek Classic, Oedipus premieres in December.
Lavishly filmed, and replete with remarkable visual effects, the flick will certainly dominate social discourse amongst movie pundits, movie bluffs, filmmakers as well as the Nigerian entertainment industry in general. Shot in locations in Nigeria, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire and also employing the use of five languages; English, French, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo it hopes to cement the Nigerian movie industry on the international map.

 

 

The thrilling, educative and topical film tells the story of a child who was born to King Adedoyin, while the naming ceremony is in progress, the leading clergy goes into a trance and proclaims that the baby will kill his father and marry his mother. While still trying to grapple with the situation, the traditional leader enters and proclaims the child as an unlucky messenger of the gods.

The child is taken to Cameroon inorder to avert the prophecy. Twenty eight years later, the child is also told the same prophecy which makes him leave Cameroon for Nigeria inorder to deter the prophecy but instead leads hi to fulfill the prophecy. Noteworthy is that the movie takes an existentialist stance at the role of a man in the fulfilment of his destiny and upholds the view that man, rather than the Supreme Force should be blamed for the consequences of his actions.

It is the opinion of the playwright that if the baby had been allowed to live and grow up with his parents instead of living with foster parents in a foreign land, probably the prophecy would not have been fulfilled.

 

An exceptional departure from your regular traditional-contemporary films, it spotlights Nigerian artistry and talent and places emphasis on top-class production. The fineness of this film is first seen in the crop of actors as it has an outstanding blend of English and Yoruba, established and fast-rising thespians.

 

Produced by Funke Fayoyin and Byron Ene, the film is the first cinematic offering of her Catalyst Communications Limited Productions. The stellar cast of Nollywood stars featured include Carol King, Bayo Alawiye, Seun Akindele, Iretiola Doyle, Gabriel Afolayan, Gloria Anozie-Young, Kareem Adepoju, Akin Lewis, Yemi Elebuibon, Dele Odule, Bukky Ajayi, Moji Olaiya, Nobert Young, Funsho Adeolu and introducing Omowunmi Dada.

 

Speaking on the project, the director, Funke Fayoyin disclosed that the film revolves around the parent-child relationship, the concept of destiny or fate as well as love, betrayal, sacrilege and other array of contemporary issues.

“The idea wasn’t only to introduce a new and significant dimension to the classic but to make it fascinating and appealing to viewers. Film production isn’t something that should be hurriedly done, it should be about breaking new grounds, setting standards and more importantly giving viewers value for their money.”

 
The Gods Are Still Not To Blame cuts across the Nigerian border, we have the best of the best; the costume is bespoke, the cinematography is top-of-the-range, the actors top-notch, the production as a whole is excellent. With this project, I hope to take the film industry into an all-new height as well as capture the world’s consciousness for accomplishing a feat.” She affirmed.

On sunday June 3, 2012, guests trooped the Cultural Centre, kuto, Abeokuta venue for the inaugural edition of the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA). The maiden awards whose sole intent was to celebrate outstanding artistes in the Yoruba movie industry was put together by the Ogun State government and spearheaded by Tunde Oshinibosi also known as Laface. Like I mentioned earlier, it was a fierce battle as all the nominees are all exceptional in their rights but the awards if you agree with me went to the deserving nominees. Glo ambassadors, Odunlade Adekola&Funke Akindele won for their categories (best actor&actress) as well as Gabriel Afolayan who clinched the most promising actor award etc.Funke Akindele-Oloyede and Gabriel Afolayan were unavoidably absent at the event.

CELEBRITY LIST: LIKE FATHER LIKE SON

This week I’ll be talking on ‘Like father like son’ and this dwells on veteran celebrities who have made their mark in their chosen fields of endeavour and whose children are now toeing their paths.
While some are deceased others are still active and at times paired with their children in movies. Here’s my 7 list and as usual in alphabetic order.

1) Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello)/ Femi Adebayo

59 year-old Adebayo Salami is one of the most successful and most celebrated veteran actors in the Nigerian film industry. He’s starred in over 200 movies and garnered a lot of accolades.
His son Femi Adebayo who dumped his wig and gown for acting about 8 years ago is also doing incredibly well in the yoruba movie scene.

2) Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love)/Kunle, Aremu&Gabriel Afolayan

Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love) needs no introduction. Though now deceased, but in his lifetime the foremost filmmaker raised a lot of bars. Asides acting, his vocal dexterity was also a plus, infact he also produced soundtracks of movies.
Needless to say his sons Kunle, Aremu&Gabriel who are seasoned and award-winning thespians are still hoisting their father’s colourful flag. And there’s this touch of style and excellence in what they do.

3) Arthur Modupe Alade/ Dare Art Alade

I’m sorry I have no picture for Dare’s father but during his realm, he was versatile and talented; he could sing different parts of music, crack ribs and his Art Alade show was always a delight to watch. His son Dare got his talent from his father. The Project Fame West Africa finalist is one of the best R’n’b singers the country has ever produced.

4) Fela Anikulapo/Femi&Seun Anikulapo

Who doesn’t know Fela? The saxophone-wielding, musician and composer whose impact is still felt till date. Infact a considerable number of contemporary musicians draw so much inspiration from him.
But we take consolation in the fact that Femi and Seun, the most popular of his numerous sons have stepped into his shoes and continued where he stopped.

5) Jide Kosoko/Sola Kosoko-Abinna

Trained actor, Jide Kosoko who has been acting for over 15 years hasn’t in the least bit waned in influence. The 58 year-old theatre practitioner’s pretty daughter Sola Kosoko who got married few months ago is also a well-known face in the Nollywood industry.

6) Sunday Omobolanle (Aluwe)/ Olasunkanmi Omobolanle

Fondly called Pappy Luwe, when it comes to comic roles, Sunday Omobolanle isn’t a weakling. The Oyo-state indigene’s acting career spans decades.
His light-skinned son, Olasunkanmi who tied the knots last year has also been acting for the past 7 years and not doing bad for himself too.

7) Pete Edochie/ Yul Edochie
Heavily-bearded veteran, Pete Edochie has certainly paid his dues as long as Nollywood is concerned. Whether he is playing the role of a stern-faced man who would poison his sibling the nextminute over plots of land or a caring father (which is rare), the Igbo actor has been a blessing.
Unlike his father who fits into ‘wicked’ roles easily, handsome Yul maintains his cool, is soft-spoken and a gentle lover (in movies).

INTERVIEW: GABRIEL AFOLAYAN SPEAKS AT LENGTH ON HIS MUSIC CAREER

It is no longer news that seasoned actor Gabriel Afolayan, son of late film maker Adeyemi Afolayan and brother to accomplished actors, Kunle and Aremu Afolayan is dipping his hand into another pie, which is music.
In this interview, the debutante who is chanelling every faction of his talents into becoming a well-rounded artiste and who isn’t cowed by the presence of other established or upcoming artistes spoke at length about his sojourn into music amongst other issues.

1) Gabriel Afolayan is very successful in the acting terrain, what’s driving you into music?
Its strictly passion and music appreciation that is driving me on into the arena.

2) What kind of music do you do?
I do African soul

3) Your sizzling hot single, ‘Kokoro Ife’ is generating a lot of buzz everywhere, how do you feel about this?
I feel so happy and its surprising.
Never thought it would be this accepted, there’s this negative buzz about actors diversifying into music because they don’t get much roles again and thus have to supplement their earnings with music. No! The case is different, I’m just passionate about music and seeing this level of appreciation makes want to put in more efforts on my material.

3) Kokoro Ife is purely a love song. Is there any story behind the song or was it something you just stumbled on?
Kokoro ife is inspired by love and its complications. The continuous search for love and how we all rendezvous at the same spot. If you pay attention to the song you’ll find out the mode at which the guy searched and still couldn’t find, meaning you don’t set out searching for love, it comes to you natural. And the typical lesson is “if you are opportuned to secure love, hold on to it and cherish it”. This was said in the first 4 lines of the first verse. Basically Love is what the world seeks.

4) How long have you been into music?
Many people are not aware of the fact that I didn’t just make the decision to do music, I’ve been on the journey for long.
I started music professionally in 1997.
I was signed as a back up singer to a studio called phynix in Ibadan, Oyo State.
And also I used to back up for one- man band then as well. I was born a Baptist, I’ve been a chorister way back. I also had a musical group while in the Univeristy (University of Ibadan).

5) Are you quitting the stage for music or is there going to be a balance?
No way! I won’t. There is a balance already. I am under a management called studio 6 multimedia ltd; they have Studio 6 films and Studio 6 music. I’m like a complete brand to them and we have proper scheduling.

6) The music industry is highly competitive, how prepared are you for this?
I am prepared for the game cos I have something to offer in terms of my style. I listen to all kind of songs. But I appreciate soul music the most and it has inspired my style. That does not stop me from doing fast songs. It’s just that I would want to be known for a particular movement in music. I know about the competitive nature of the music industry and I must say it’s really making the game grow.

7) How far do you see yourself going in music?
The field is large enough. I am not coming in to drag or brag about anything. I am in music to bless the game with my uniqueness. And I know I will surely pull my own crowd/fans. I would surely contribute my quota. I’m going very far.

8) Any plans to release an album yet or feature other accomplished acts?
My album project is still in view but I’m just dropping singles for now. So I have just been recording songs at random. Although we’ve pencilled down some notable collaborations which I want to keep under wraps now.
9) Who is or are your influence(s) in the music industry.
A lot of them. I’m influenced by so many veteran musicians, talk of King Sunny Ade, Haruna Ishola, Ebenezer Obey, KWAM 1, Obesere, Victor Uwaifo, Segun Adewale, Admiral Adekunle, Sir Shina Peters, Kolawole Ayinla, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Pasuma, Kenny Kore, Samsong, Ty Bello, Tiwa Savage, W4, Wizkid, 2face, BankyW, Sound Sultan, Gt guitar man, Asa, Yinka Davies, Ego, Wande Coal, Lara George,Terry G and lots more. On the foreign scene I have Anthony Hamilton, Sisqo, Tyrese, Mario, Lauren Hill, Brandy, Smoky Robinson, Nat King Cole, Louis amstrong; the list is endless.

10) Considering the nature of your jobs now, how do you unwind?
The only time I unwind is when I want to sleep at night. The job itself is a whole lot of fun.

11) Has being the son of a film legend influenced you or opened doors for you in both careers?
It calls for more. Being from that source brings a lot of challenges. People pay attention to every detail, there are certain things they accept from others that they won’t take from you, it goes beyond being basking in the infleunce of my late father, it is really challenging.
