Funke Akindele to release new TV series

She works incredibly hard and has been cited as one of the
best actresses in her generation. Funke Akindele Bello is working on ‘Industreet’ another exciting venture,
a music-oriented TV series reportedly inspired by her husband, Rasheed Bello,
popularly called JJC, a singer and director.  The upcoming TV
series will centre on hustle/survival in the entertainment industry.
“It is just a group
of people coming together to do something different on television through Scene
One Productions, where I am the CEO. My mission is for people to enjoy
wholesome entertainment.”
The 39 year-old told PUNCH recently.

“Industreet”
will feature names like Tina Mba, Kunle Coker, Linda
Ejiofor, K-Switch, Charles Okocha, Mo-Easy, Freeze of Cool FM, Lydia Forson,
to mention a few.

Funke Akindele celebrates Global Success of Jenifa’s Diary with Red Carpet & Q&A event in London

To celebrate the global success of hit comedy series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, beloved Nollywood actress Funke Akindele is coming to London to spend an evening with her UK fans. iROKO and Lebara Play will be screening episodes from Jenifa’s Diary Season 4, as part of an exclusive red carpet event at London’s Greenwich Odeon on Friday 10th June 2016. 

The follow-up TV series to Nollywood blockbuster movies, ‘Jenifa’ (2008) and ‘Return of Jenifa’ (2012), sees Akindele reprise her role as the eponymous comic village hairdresser. The show follows Jenifa as she cons her way back to the city to give university life another go, whilst jotting down her experience in her trusty diary.
In addition to honouring Funke Akindele’s tremendous work towards the meteoric growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry, fans will have the chance to get up close and personal with the award-winning actress, with an exclusive Q&A session conducted by DJ Abass, where they will discuss Nollywood, the changing role of women in the business and many other aspects of African entertainment.
Starting from 9pm, fans will enjoy a rare opportunity to see the acclaimed actress and producer in person as well as watch the hilarious Jenifa’s Diary, followed by hearing her unique insights and anecdotes in an exclusive interview by DJ Abass.

‎Funke Akindele is painting the UK red for her 39th birthday and she wants you to know about it. The award-winning actress shared her birthday plans with fans on her instagram page few hours ago.

Jenifa as she’s fondly called will be a year older on August 24 but the shindig will hold on the 28th, 29th, 30th and 4th September at London, Manchester Birmingham and Aberdeen.

Actress, Funke Akindele’s much talked about comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary will hit the airwaves in April. If you are a TV buff and an ardent fan of the award-winning thespian, get ready to be wowed.
Jenifa’s Diary  is a comedy television series that depicts the hilarious and amazing adventures of Suliat,  a.k.a Jenifa. A secondary school dropout turned hairdresser who lives in a backwater town called Aiyetoro.           
                
Jenifa is loud, over-bearing and very opinionated. She nurses the ambition of leaving her community and making something of herself. She is always trying to prove her worth and wants to be recognized and ‘feel among’. 
Her competitive spirit with her peers comes to the forefront when she realizes many of her friends in Aiyetoro are in higher institutions.  Jenifa is motivated to leave her community and pursue her dream of attending a higher institution and becoming a huge success and to enhance her status in Aiyetoro.

Jenifa manages to borrow and even swindles one of her illiterate Aiyetoro ‘toasters’ to raise enough money for her exodus to Lagos. Jenifa’s Diary follows this epic, comedic journey as she arrives. in Lagos and lets all hell loose! 
Jenifa’s diary will be another innovative, ground breaking Nigerian comedy concept. Jenifa is particularly attached to her diary in which she writes down her. daily experiences and uses the medium. to involve the audience in her thoughts and actions!
Everything that is written in the diary. including the grammatical errors, is transcribed unto the screen and the medium of Jenifa’s voice-over sharing her thoughts further magnifies her. quirks and eccentricities!

With unexpected turn of events, Jenifa’s adventures will take her from he streets. of Lagos to high class shows to the corridors of universities which she does not attend, from crowded school hostels to Adult Education classes and back to. the streets of Lagos, all in her quest to gain admission into a higher institution.

Directed by Edmund Eraibe, the series stars Lota Chukwu, Kunle Afod, Juliana Olayode Tope Adebayo, Pa Ojoge, Olaniyi Afonja (Sanyeri), Bash and also features cameo appearances from Banky W,  Beverly Osu, songstress, Waje, Wunmi Obe, DJ Spinall, Amaechi Muonagor, Ali Nuhu and Alex Ekubo.
The TV series will start showing on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), African Independent Television, (AIT), And Silverbird TV on DSTV.

‎Award-winning actress, Funke Akindele has unveiled plans to kick off her reality show tagged the Jenifa TV series in 2015.‎

The movie producer was quoted in a statement issued by her media management, Benchmark Media Limited.

We are doing a talk show, it has been in the offing for so long, now it is coming out of the can. It is a reality show that will touch the nerve of our socio-political existence, it is beautifully scripted. To me, it is a gift of laughter, knowledge, and enlightenment to my fans and lovers of good art.‎”
Jenifa as fondly called, added, “I actually wanted the character to take a deserving rest but I’m amazed that many years after, the Jenifa’s character still resonates. Anywhere I go, it is welcome, and people love to see, hear that part of Jenifa in me.

“I want to believe that my portrayal of Jenifa this time will be loved more by the viewers of the drama series. There will be more chemistry with co-actors. I must quickly add that a good number of actors in the original Jenifa are involved; alongside new faces and that will be the highlight of the show.” She affirmed.‎
