Euro 2016 : End of the road for Spain and England

Italy 2 Spain 0
Italy knocked out Spain to reach the Euro 2016 quarterfinals.  Goals from Chiellini and Pelle sunk the two-time defending champions. Italy will now face Germany in the quarter-finals.
England 1 Iceland 2
Iceland staged a shocker and eliminated England from the Euro 2016 tournament.

France, Germany and Belgium cruise to the quarterfinals

Highlights of Euro 2016 matches played today. 

France 2 Ireland 1

Antoine Griezmann scored two goals in 3 minutes to hand France a well deserved victory over Ireland. He becomes the first Frenchman to score 3 goals in the same European Championship since Zidane at Euro 2004.

Germany 3 Slovakia 0

Germany eased to a 3-0 win over Slovakia in the Euro 2016 round of 16. Boateng, Gomez & Draxler all scored as Joachim Low’s men cruised into the #EURO2016 quarterfinals
Mario Gomez is now Germany’s joint-top goalscorer at the European Championships. (5 goals) He levels with Jurgen Klinsmann.

Belgium 4 Hungary 0

Belgium qualified for the quarter-finals after a 4-0 victory over Hungary. Belgium becomes the first team with a 4-goal game in the Euro 2016 tournament. They now face Wales.

Euro 2016 : Poland, Wales, Portugal reach last 8

Highlights of Euro 2016 matches played today. 

Poland 5 Switzerland 4
After a 1-1 draw in the full time game, Poland proceeded to the quarter-finals after beating Switzerland 5-4 in penalty shoot-out. They became the first team to reach last 8.

Wales 1 Northern Ireland 0
Wales reached the first quarter-final of a major tournament in 58 years after a win over Northern Ireland. McAuley’s own goal sealed the last 8 spot for the Welsh team.

Portugal 1 Croatia 0
Portugal grabbed an extra-time winner to book a place in quarter-final. An 117th minute strike by Quaresma shattered Croatia’s dream of progressing to the last 8.Interestingly, Portugal are the only country to reach the quarterfinals at the last six European Championships.

Euro 2016 : Sweden eliminated, Ronaldo breaks record and other highlights (Day 13)

Highlights of matches played on the Day 12 of the Euro 2016 tournament. 

Portugal 3 Hungary 3
Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace and Nani scored once to help Portugal qualify alongside Group F winners Hungary. Ronaldo who found the net for the first time became the first player to score in four EURO tournaments.
Iceland 2 Austria 1
Iceland scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to eliminate Austria and seal a second place and a spot in Group F. They now face England in Euro 2016 last 16.
Italy 0 Republic Of Ireland 1
The Republic of Ireland have made it through to the last 16 of Euro 2016, thanks to Robbie Brady’s stunning late lead. Italy will meet Spain in the round 16 fixtures.
Sweden 0 Belgium 1
Belgium advances to the knockout round with 1-0 victory over Sweden. Sweden are now officially out of the race. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has bowed out of international football as his beloved country couldn’t scale through.

Euro 2016 : Day 12

Highlights of matches played on the Day 12 of the Euro 2016 tournament. 

Ukraine 0 Poland 1

Poland beat Ukraine 1-0 to reach the knockout stage of Euro 2016. This is their first time of reaching a EURO finals tournament, after failing in 2008 and 2012. They will play against Switzerland in the second round.

Northern Ireland 0 Germany 1

Germany moved into the last 16 as Group C winners after 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. A 30th minute strike by Mario Gomez guided them into the knockouts. Northern Ireland are however through to the knock out stage. 

Croatia 2 Spain 1

Croatia came from behind to defeat Spain 2-1 and win Group D. Spain had an opportunity to secure their place after a penalty was awarded to them. But Sergio Ramos’ shot was saved by Croatia’s Subasic. However, Perisic fired in an 87th-minute shot to hand Spain’s first defeat in 15 games at the European Championship.They will now face Italy on Monday. 

Czech Republic 0 Turkey 2

Albeit they needed 4 goals to qualify, Turkey retained hopes of advancing to the round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic. Petr Cech  conceded the 21st goal at a EURO, more than any other goalkeeper.

Euro 2016 : Day 11

Highlights of matches played on the Day 11 of the Euro 2016 tournament. 

Russia 0 Wales 0

Wales sealed a place in the last 16 after thrashing Russia to finish top of Group B. Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring at the 11th minute after racing behind the Russian defence before chipping over the goalkeeper. Neil Taylor and Gareth Bale also registered their names on scoring sheets at the 20th and 67th minutes respectively.
England 0 Slovakia 0

England finish second in Group B after being held to a goalless draw by Slovakia despite a dominating display in St-Etienne. England will now face either Austria, Hungary, Iceland or Portugal.

Euro 2016 : Day 10


Highlights of matches played on the Day 10 of the Euro 2016 tournament.

France 0 Switzerland 0

France secured top spot in Group A, after they played out a goalless draw with Switzerland. The French now top Group A with 7 points. Switzerland join them in the last 16.

Romania 0 Albania 1
Albania beat Romania to earn chance of last 16 place. Armando Sadiku’s header handed the country her first ever win in tournament football. They finished third in Group A.

Highlights of matches played on the Day 8 of the Euro 2016 tournament. 

Belgium 3 Republic of Ireland

Belgium recorded its first points of the Euro 2016 tournament with a thrilling victory over the Republic of Ireland. The victories were delivered by Romelu Lukaku who netted twice and Axel Witsel who scored a header.

Iceland 1 Hungary 1

A late own-goal by Birkir Savarsson of Iceland in the dying seconds of their game against Hungary denied them of their first-ever win at a major tournament. Hungary are now atop Group F on 4 points. 

Portugal 0 Austria 0

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty as Portugal vs Austria game ended  in goalless draw. Portugal who didn’t do well against Iceland in their first match now sit at the third position on Group F standings.
