English Premier League sets unwanted record.

Getting a managerial role in the Premier League is easy but staying in the dugout is a more serious task.

An unwanted record has been set for the most sackings in a Premier League season. A total of 12 coaches have now lost their jobs in an English Premier league season with Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and Chelsea’s Graham Potter becoming the latest casualties. Below is a list of managers who have been relieved of their jobs this campaign period.

Manchester United have to score, Chelsea must improve and other things from the weekend.



1. WRONG CALLS BY REFEREES HAVE TO STOP: Errors are part of life and are generally inevitable. However, certain profession gives room for little or no error(s) due to the consequence or fallout from any error. Refereeing is one of those professions. A game can be won, lost or drawn due to bad calls and as such, a lot of effort has been channeled into reducing to bearest minimum or possibly eliminating the margin of error in officiating. The English FA must pay rapt attention and react swiftly to the growing spate of wrong offside calls in the league. 
Bournemouth lost a point and Manchester United lost two to wrong offside calls. Tendering an apology or punishing erring match officials will do nothing or little to fix the damage because the last time I checked, the three points Benteke’s “wrongly allowed goal” earned Liverpool still stands and Manchester United got just a single point from their game against Newcastle despite Rooney’s legit goal that was again wrongly disallowed.

These things may look insignificant or ‘little’ now but later on in hindsight, it may turn out to be the reason why a team fail to survive or win the title. This is the EPL, a league where every point, every goal counts.


2. CHELSEA’S PROBLEMS ARE FAR FROM OVER: Chelsea finally grabbed their first win of the season and scores goals aplenty but their problems are far from over as the awful defending and uninspiring play still remains. The 3-2 win against West Brom brings their total number of conceded goals to SEVEN with just three games into the season. A clear show of porous and poor defending – which is something Mourinho is very critical of.
John Terry continues to show his lack of pace and on top of that, committed a foul that reminds everyone of when Arsenal used to have Djourou at the heart of their defence, Ivanovic continues his woeful performance on the right where he is consistently turned inside out by anyone called a winger and Zouma looks like a ticking bomb with his perpetual lack of focus and unwise decisions in crucial areas. Cesar Azpilicueta remains the only defender that has put in a decent performance over the course of three games.
In the middle, the combination of Matic and Fabregas no longer yields desired result with Fabregas doing more to assist the opponents than his own team by regularly giving away possession and misplacing passes. The attack looks sharper with the inclusion of Pedro – who has hit the ground running but all the loopholes in the midfield and defence must be fixed if Chelsea are nurturing any dream of winning laurels this season.
Lastly, a free tip for Chelsea’s marketing team – Ivanovic will do well as Vine’s brand ambassador. He contributes more videos than anyone these days.

3. MANCHESTER CITY ARE THE TEAM TO BEAT: Maximum 9 points from three games played, 8 goals scored and none conceded – Manchester City are on a roll and they would take some stopping.  With a much improved opposition in Everton (due respect to West Brom and Chelsea), Manchester City showed that their emphatic wins have more to do with their immense quality and tenacity than the level or quality of opposition.

A sturdy defence led by Kompany, a very creative and dominating midfield with Silva at the helms of affairs and a lethal strike force led by Sergio Aguero plus a very rich bench thanks to good signings, City are already looking like the team to beat.

4. MANCHESTER UNITED NEED TO SCORE: While the blue side of Manchester is bright and noisy from the shout of goals and victories, the other side isn’t all that good. Manchester United are still unable to score goals despite dominating games and overwhelming opponents.
Wayne Rooney is not finding the striking role easy and with every game, he increases the worry that Manchester United may need to look elsewhere for a striker. Newcastle’s barren draw is United’s third league game and they have only managed 2 goals – an own goal and deflected shot.
100 percent ball possession and passes completed does not win games, goals is what does. Manchester United will have to start scoring soon or find themselves in real trouble.

Three things from the EPL weekend games

Matches, goals, victories and defeats, here are three things I picked up from the English Premier League over the weekend.

1. MANCHESTER CITY MEAN BUSINESS: Manuel Pelligrinni’s side had a disappointing run last season given their stand as the defending champions and the pedigree of players they paraded. Their failings in Europe was very much still obvious and they failed to pick points in the league when it mattered. All of these contributed to them losing out in the title race and having an all round underwhelming season. 
Going into the new season, Pelligrinni promised some reshuffling and resurgence, and indeed, it appears he meant every word. Manchester city have been very active in the transfer market; laying off unwanted players in order to free up space and lighten financial burden and also making credible additions. Prominently, they have snapped up Fabian Delph from Aston Villa and Raheem Sterling from Liverpool. In the midst of these, they have also managed to keep their key players.

All of these show seriousness and clear mindset of set goals and objectives. 
So far, Manchester city have gotten maximum 6points from two games, scoring 6 and conceding none. They are defending well, scoring freely and offering a pleasant style of play. 
Yesterday’s bashing of the defending champions, Chelsea, is a big statement! City are in town and they are taking no prisoners!


2. MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE A PROBLEM SCORING GOALS: A slim 1nil win over Tottenham courtesy of an own goal from Kyle Walker in the opening game and another victory in similar fashion against Aston Villa (courtesy of Janujaz’s strike) has opened a new and genuine concern at Manchester United – scoring goals. 
Sergio Romero looks solid in goal which makes De Gea’s absence largely unfelt, the defence is rock solid (Matteo Darmian is a beast!!) and the midfield looks sorted although the style of play has not fully established but the primary problem is upfront which is where victory is affirmed or denied. Memphis Depay is yet to replicate the kind of feat that attracted the club to him and Rooney is also yet to find his feet. 
6points from two games and two clean sheets may look good on paper, however, it must be considered that they are yet to face a stiff opponent (due respect to Spurs and villa) and an own goal doesn’t happen in every game. This is a league where title race goes down to the wire and something ‘little’ like the goal difference may end up determining who goes home with the trophy.


3. CHELSEA NEED TO SPEND: Weeks into the transfer window, Chelsea’s odd silence was surprising to me given the club’s penchant for spending. Jose Mourinho must have thought that he has enough players to prosecute the entire season but results are however proving him wrong. Very wrong. 

The embarrassing defeat yesterday at the Etihad affirms the initial fears that majority of the players are jaded, uninspired and tired. Worse still, the bench isn’t exactly filled with options. Good options. 
Half fit first choice striker who fights more than he scores these days, creative but not so solid midfield, overplayed and slow defence – All of these are definitely not features of a team that wants to be crowned champions of the EPL or a team that intends to take anything out of the season. 
Chelsea’s consistency has been replaced with poor performance and lack of will. The defeat against Arsenal in the community shield, 2all draw against Swansea and the drubbing against city are clear indicators. 
Mourinho might need to stop talking (nonsense) and bring out the cheque book while there is still time because games are not won in a press conference, they are won on the field with players. Good, inspired and well rested players.

Arsenal start on a dull note, suffer shocking 2-0 home defeat

Arsenal Fc began their league campaign on a poor note as they suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the Emirates earlier today.
Errors from their biggest summer signing,  Petr Cech prevented the team from having a flying start anticipated by fans and several pundits.
Cech was caught out when West Ham midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate headed in a first-half free kick and then Mauro Zarate slotted home a second on the break after 57 minutes to leave Gunners boss Arsene Wenger facing more questions about the direction of his side.
West Ham started with 16-year-old Reece Oxford in midfield, and he put in a mature display at the back.
Wenger was forced to use Alexis Sanchez a surprise substitute but he could not inspire the Gunners back into the game.
The defeat leaves Arsenal in the last position on the log and some fans are already showing concerns regarding the intent of the club to charge for the league title.

Nathaniel Clyne tips Liverpool for EPL title

Liverpool’s new signing Nathaniel Clyne has tipped Liverpool for the EPL title citing the new addition and quality of the team as the rationale behind it. Liverpool finished sixth last season despite splashing the cash on a number of players in a bid to improve the quality of the team. Last season’s disappointing performance came on the heel of an impressive second-place finish the season before it and many has questioned the readiness of the club to go all the way.
But England international full-back Clyne, who moved from Southampton to Anfield for £12.5 million during the off-season, believes the Merseyside club can end their 25-year drought for league success this term.

“Two seasons ago, Liverpool were pushing and nearly won the league, so we’re not too far away and with the additions to the team this year, we are looking to push on again,” Clyne said.

“Hopefully we can push for the title this season.

“You can see with the team and the quality that we have got that we can have a special season.”
Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign at Stoke City on Sunday, having lost 6-1 at the Britannia Stadium on the final day of the 2014-15 campaign.

7 Goals in 4 Games, Chelsea striker Diego Costa is unstoppable right now. The Spain forward edged out his team-mate Cesc Fabregas, Swansea City duo Nathan Dyer and Gylfi Sigurdsson and Aston Villa’s Andreas Weimann to become the Premier League’s Player of the Month of August.

The 25 year-old who moved to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid this summer scored four goals in three matches at the start of the season, then he registered his first hattrick for Chelsea today in The Blues’ game against Swansea. Swansea coach, Garry Monk was named Manager of the Month.
