Ebola: Woman breaks man's head with bottle for hugging her

I know we are all trying as much as possible to protect ourselves from contracting the deadly Ebola Virus Disease but easy does it. Going as far as hurting people physically might land us into more trouble.
A young lady identified as Bunmi reportedly picked up a bottle and broke it on the head of a young man named Demola Ojikutu for hugging her from behind without her consent. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
The incident happened around Ajah area of Lagos State yesterday.
Bunmi’s sister, Yemi who narrated the story said her sister had refused to shake anyone since she learnt of the EVD.
“We were discussing at Ilaje area when Ojikutu held her from behind. Bunmi was enraged and, out of anger, picked a bottle from a nearby beer parlour and smashed it on his head. Yes, I am not happy about what my sister did but the man was also wrong to have held her from behind, after all she is not his
lover.” Yemi added.

Opinion: Ebola might be a scam | By: Greg Ighodaro

I know you already have your reservations against my caption, but you might want to keep them under bucket until you get to the end of this article, just follow closely and let’s review this together. Towards the end of last month a deadly and very contagious disease EVD (EBOLA virus disease) was said to have resurfaced after some patients started showing the symptoms’ again. The deadly disease known to have started way back as at the 70’s has found its way amongst humans again and this time more effectively.
The substantiation of all the stories there about this disease is barely my business, but how the government of Nigeria, known to take advantage of any situation, especially negative, for their political and selfish gains, may have gotten into this global pandemonium to sieve out the gold that might be imbedded in the outbreak of this disease.
Nigerians are known to deal with situation of the moment and have a tendency of forgetting previous national events if introduced to new ones. As far as I’m concerned, facts and figures might be right about the swift spread of EVD but not even a blind man is ignorant of the Political devices thoroughly aimed at the masses the government is suppose to serve just to create an unsettled atmosphere perfect for them to strike their strategies.Just recently, the tag #Bring back our girls became popular because of our lack of focus as a people and a nation, we’ve lost focal point of “that” national event and has moved forward into #Ebola, irrespective of how the story of the over 200 Chibok girls ends. Now grants and supports are being given from health organizations around the world to contain this dreadful disease and the good news is Nigerian government received a large sum of the support given except that they’ve used it to build under average facilities and spread unnecessary panic.
I like the fact that everyone should wash their hands and do more healthy exercises. It is good, I mean people should be clean but In my candid opinion, the government has found a ground to shift our focus off the Chibok girls that are somewhere within the country, hopefully, living under torment and forced doctrines of their abductors. Guess what, this Ebola is strong enough to scare the whole world but won’t stop the campaign exercise(s) of our political leaders who are almost not concerned. As a matter of fact, the number of fliers and publicity given to the masses concerning Ebola is not close to the publicity they’ve given to political aspirants for the election that is still a year away.
Secondly, the government is proposing to stop gatherings where this contagious disease can find an opportunity. Churches, schools etc are being advised to stop meeting to contain Ebola, but there is no gathering as much as the kind of crowd we have during campaigns, if the government is serious about containing this disease, the first measure is to stop campaigns that have the highest plausibility of spreading Ebola.
The government will not be moved by this observation, but as a nation, we have a choice not to move in the direction this government known for treating situations trivialy and milking out all there is available to fill their pockets and gain more power. We have an option to still help the Chibok girls raise a voice of freedom and help their families smile again.
Not a sentence in this article have I mentioned that Ebola is not real and have I opposed the facts, but this disease in the hands of Nigerian government is just another opportunity to break higher political grounds and shift our attention away from the problems we were dealing with before the outbreak of EBOLA. Spread the news, make some noise about this, we refuse to be gullible again, because what will eventually happen is, this Ebola disease will be contained, maybe or maybe not, but the government won’t stop to oppress us with their selfish agendas. My advice “FOCUS”
PEOPLE OF NIGERIA.

Ebola: Nigeria, Liberia others barred from Youth Olympics.

Still on the many woes Patrick Sawyer brought to Nigeria. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned Nigeria and other West African countries affected by the Ebola Virus Disease from participating in some sports at the Youth Olympics. Apparently, the decision was made to ensure the safety of participants.
A statement released by the IOC reads, “ Athletes from affected areas will not compete in combat sports” and “it was also decided that no athletes from the region would compete in the pool. We regret that due to this issue some young athletes may have suffered twice, both from the anguish caused by the outbreak in their home countries and by not being able to compete in the Youth Olympic Games.”

“We have been reassured by the health authorities that there have been no suspected cases and that the risk of infection is extremely unlikely. Together we have developed a policy which balances the health needs of all, with respect for the rights of the young athletes from the region.”
The Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Nanjing, China’s former capital, from August 16 to 28 will feature more than 3,500 competitors aged 15 to 18. A total of 25 people have fallen into the categories of Ebola-hit countries; (Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Nigeria.) Nigeria’s squad is the largest with 13 members.

Ebola: "Patrick Sawyer was paid by some rich&powerful to kill as many as possible in Nigeria"- Femi Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has described the late Liberian-American who “brought” the Ebola Virus Disease to Nigeria as an evil man whose mission was to kill as many people as possible. He also revealed that he was sponsored by some rich, powerful and well-connected people. Below is what he wrote on his official Facebook page.

“I disagree with those who have described Patrick Sawyer as a madman. He was not mad at all but just evil. He was a man that was on a mission. That mission was to spread the ebola virus to Nigeria and to infect and kill as many people as possible with it. He was an evil man with an evil intention and purpose. Worst still he was not working alone. Some people, and I mean rich, powerful and well-connected people, were working with him. As a matter of fact they sent him on the mission.

They cultivated him, took care of him, paid him, brainwashed him, gave him all that he wanted in life and finally asked him to go on a suicide mission to destroy the lives of others and spread the deadly disease.
This was a clear case of bio-terrorism and Sawyer was simply a pawn in a bigger game and a wider picture. The motive of those who sent him was to spread fear and panic, to kill as many people as possible, to create a need for a solution to the problem, to prepare the ground for a new wonder drug that could cure ebola, to create a massive market for that drug and to ensure that there would be massive profits from it’s sale.

As usual it is the unbelieving, unprepared, undiscerning and naive Africans that have been used as the prime guinea pigs. When will they stop destroying us and treating us with such contempt? When will they begin to see and treat us as human beings?”

Ebola: Dame Patience Jonathan adopts the new greeting method. (Photo)

The fear of Ebola! No one wants to take chances. First lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan who touched down Gdansk Walesa International Airport in Poland on Wednesday 13th August 2014 was pictured adopting the new method of greeting while exchanging pleasantries with officials and aides.

Rather than offer her hands for handshakes, Dame who was invited to the country to commission a training ship built for the Nigerian Oceanographic Institute simply smiled and rubbed her palms before each guest.

Ebola: Nigeria endorses use of Zmapp experimental drug for treatment.

Zmapp, the experimental Ebola drug, for treatment of patients infected with the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been approved by the National Health Research Ethics Committee, Nigeria.

In a statement issued to newsmen by Prof. Clement Adebamowo, Chairman of the committee on Wednesday in Abuja, the decision by the committee is coming on the heels of Tuesday’s approval by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the use of Zmapp for treatment of Ebola patients.

“It is ethical to use these treatments in the current situation without first submitting an application to National, State or Institutional Health Research Ethics Committee for prior review and approval. In addition, the Committee waives the current requirement that international shipment of any biological samples out of Nigeria should be preceded by the establishment of a Materials Transfer Agreement.

“This waiver is to promote rapid international response to this global emergency,” the statement said.

In the statement, the Nigerian National Code for Health Research Ethics emphasised that all innovative and non-validated treatments should be carefully and adequately documented.

According to the statement, the documentation can form the basis for clinical trials of the efficacy and side effects of the treatment according to established scientific principles.

In the statement, the ethics committee enjoined all agencies, development partners and research scientists to follow the guideline for the rapid resolution of the current emergency.

“The guideline will contribute to preparedness in case of future occurrences and contribution to scientific knowledge.

“It must be noted that all Phase O and Phase I Clinical Trials that may subsequently be designed for treatment of this infection can be approved only by the National Health Research Ethics Committee,” it said.

Ebola: Rwanda Football Federation express concerns over AFCON fixture in Nigeria.

Following reported cases of Ebola virus in Nigeria, the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has expressed concerns regarding their AFCON clash with the Eagles in Calabar on September 6, 2014.
Vincent Nzamwita, FERWAFA president wrote the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the situation in Nigeria.
“We’re waiting to see if they can change the game, it’s a big worry. If the government decide that the Amavubi does not travel, then we shall respect that,” he added.
Meanwhile, CAF will be moving Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers from countries most affected by the EVD. According to them, World Health Organization have advised them to avoid huge gatherings that could facilitate the spread of the Ebola virus.
A circular, sent to all 54 CAF affiliated national associations reads:
CAF will maintain its schedule of matches on the entire continent, except for 3 countries: Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, which have recorded a great number of cases. CAF has decided to ask the three federations to relocate to a neutral country the matches of their teams participating in CAF competitions, for a period up to mid-September 2014.”

“Each National Association receiving delegations is obliged to communicate all the necessary information delivered by health authorities to ensure the reception of teams and officials from various countries, including those from affected countries, and to proceed, if necessary, to additional checks at arrival points if required.”
