Poor soul! The 2-year-old girl who was the first Ebola patient in Mali has died. This is coming few weeks after her parents died of the same disease. WHO reports that she contracted the virus after she was exposed to an unidentified number of people while travelling with her grandmother by bus from Guinea through Mali.
2 year-old girl becomes the first Ebola patient in Mali
A 2-year-old girl has become the first person to contract the deadly Ebola Virus disease in Mali. After she arrived the country from Guinea, she was taken to a hospital in Kayes after a nurse noticed Ebola-like symptoms in her, the Ebola tests later ran on her came out positive. It is not unlikely she contracted it from her father who died of the disease.
“The girl is still in the hospital in Kayes together with members of her family who might have been exposed to the virus,” Health Ministry spokeswoman Markatie Daou said.
Meanwhile Ousmane Kone, Mali’s minister for public health have asked people in Kayes to stay calm and observe hygiene measures.
Mali becomes the 6th West African country to be hit by the virus which according to WHO has now killed more than 4,800 people.
