CAF awards Nigeria 3 points and 3 goals, fines Libya $50,000 for airport incident.

The Confederation of African Football has announced a $50,000 fine for Libya and awarded Nigeria a 3-0 victory along with three points. This decision is coming after the Super Eagles Nigeria’s team endured a gruelling experience, being stranded at the Libyan airport for over 20 hours without food or drink before a game earlier this month.

The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.  The match No.87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).  The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.  All other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.

Victor Moses, Troost-Ekong, others nominated for CAF African player of the year award.

Nigerian duo, Victor Moses and William Troost-Ekong have been shortlisted for the 2018 edition of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) player of the year award. Both Nigeria Internationals ply their trades in England and Turkey respectively.
A statement from CAF released on Wednesday reads thus. “The winner will be decided by votes from the head coaches/technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF technical and development committee and a panel of media experts,” said CAF.
“The awards gala will be held on Thursday, 4 January 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
“Nigerian energy giants, Aiteo, are the headline sponsors of next year’s edition that will see players, officials and administrators who distinguished themselves exemplary during the year under review being honoured for their efforts towards the development of the game on the continent.”

Ahmad Ahmad is the new CAF president

Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar has emerged the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He beat Issa Hayatou who presided over Africa’s football ruling body for 29 years. While Ahmad garnered a total of 34 votes, the Cameroonian pulled 20 votes at an election which took place today at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ahmad, the head of Madagascan Football Association ousted Hayatou who was running for the 8th term in office.

Hayatou’s loss will see him leave his positions as president in Africa, FIFA vice president and a member of its ruling council. Those positions will be taken over by the President

2016 Glo-CAF Awards: CAF Releases Final Shortlist

 
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have unveiled the top three nominees for the 2016 Glo-CAF African Footballer of the year Awards.
The three players who made the shortlist for African Player of the Year include current title holder, Borussia Dortmund winger, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon),  Liverpool midfielder, Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City of England and Algeria.
The three finalists of the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category are; Rainford Kabala of Zambia and T.P Mazembe F.C and Mamelodi Sundowns F.C of South Africa duo of Dennis Onyango from Uganda and Zimbabwean, Khama Billiat.
The outright winners will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches or the Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF and the announcement will be made at a ceremony scheduled to take place at the International Convention Centre, Abuja on 5th January, 2017.

John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho make 30-man shortlist for African Player of the Year award

Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho have been shortlisted for the 2016 CAF African Player of the Year Award. Other African footballers eyeing the prize include Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon, Andre Ayew of Ghana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabon.

The award ceremony will hold on January 5, 2017 in Abuja.

CAF bans Chris Giwa and 4 others for 5 years

The Confederation of
African Football (CAF) in a letter
signed by CAF’s Secretary-General, Hicham El Amrani and dated May 27th 2016 banned Chris
Giwa, factional President of the Nigeria Football Federation , Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and
Johnson Effiong from all football related activities for 5 years for
impersonation and taking football matters to a civil court. 

The ban was initially
placed on them by Amaju Pinnick–
led Nigeria Football Federation. This development is coming less than two weeks after his (Chris Giwa) club, Giwa FC was expelled by the League Manaement FC for not honouring 3 matches.

Enyeama, Ahmed Musa nominated for 2015 CAF African Footballer of the Year Award

Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa and Vincent Enyeama have for the second time been nominated for the 2015 CAF African Footballer of the Year Award. Other footballers who also made the list were Andre Ayew , Yaya Toure and  32 others.
The 37-man list of nominees was released by CAF on Sunday. The list will be whittled down to 10 in November, and then pruned down to 5 and finally 3. The current winner of the prize is Ivorian footballer, Yaya Toure who has won it 4 times (3 consecutive times).

CAF appoints Amaju Pinnick, Aisha Falode, and 6 others.

Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, ace sports broadcaster, Aisha Falode and seven other football officials have been named in different standing committees of the Confederation of African Football.
“Herewith is the list of the CAF Standing Committees and Legal Bodies for the 2015-2017 cycle following the approval of the CAF Executive Committee at its meeting on Tuesday, 26 May 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland.”‎ CAF wrote on its website.

Ebola: CAF lifts Liberia's ban

Life is edging back to normal in Liberia after the country was declared free of the Ebola Virus Disease by World Health Organization (‎WHO) few weeks back.
Another big news for football administration of the country is that the‎ Confederation of African Football has lifted the ‎suspension imposed on them which barred Ebola- hit countries from hosting continental matches at home.
CAF says on its website that it lifted the ban after it obtained a confirmation letter from the (WHO). Now, that Ebola has been wiped out, football matches can now be organised in any part of the West African country.
Meanwhile, ‎Guinea and Sierra Leone, two other African
countries still affected by the EVD are still suspended.
“However, WHO confirms that the situation of the Ebola epidemic in Guinea and Sierra Leone requires that CAF keeps its precautionary principle, and asks the concerned teams to organise their matches on a neutral ground,” a‎ CAF statement adds.‎
