Biting incident: Luis Suarez fined £66,000, banned for 4months and from entering any stadium

Luis Suárez was doing exceedingly great in the tournament, his top form and excellent performances in Uruguay games were hailed by fans and football lovers across the globe until the ugly incident happened. For biting an opponent (Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini) in World Cup clash, the Liverpool striker has been handed a 4-month ban, fined £66,000 and banned from entering any stadium by FIFA committee.
Claudio Sulser, Chairman, FIFA independent disciplinary committee said: “Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a Fifa World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated.”
His 9-game suspension for biting is longest EVER in the World Cup. Even if he appeals successfully, he will not be able play in any matches. Luckily, his ban will not affect any possible transfer, so he stands a chance of moving to another club next season, for now, he is on Barcelona’s radar.
Meanwhile that’s the third time he’ll be biting an opponent, I repeat, he should have his front teeth cropped.

"I'd rather receive a bite than a leg breaking challenge" Joey Barton rises in defence of Luis Suarez after latest biting incident

Finally someone from football world feels Suarez’s pain. Queen Park Rangers (QPR) midfielder, Joey Barton has defended Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez in the heat of criticisms from fans and football lovers all over his latest biting incident. You would recall that the Liverpool playmaker sunk his teeth into the back of Giorgio Chiellini when his team clashed with Italy few days back.
The English Footballer’s take is that nobody is perfect and a leg breaking tackle is worse than biting. He added he is a winner and his punishment isn’t the end of the world.

“He’s at it again! Should Suarez face a lengthy ban of 2+ years? I love Suarez. I love his passion for the game. I would have him on my team everyday of the week. I am also aware you can’t defend him here. All things considered I’d rather receive a bite than a leg breaking challenge. Whilst he should be punished, it is not the end of the world. He’s a winner. If that means he occasionally steps over the line between right and wrong, than thats what comes with the territory. Nobody’s perfect.” He wrote on his twitter page.

Luis Suarez might face 2- year ban over latest biting incident

No doubts, this dude needs help. Someone should also consider cropping his front teeth. Uruguay striker, Luis Suarez might face two years ban over latest biting incident at the World Cup, FIFA has confirmed. The Liverpool star appeared to have sunk his teeth into the back of Giorgio Chiellini when his team clashed with Italy last night.

A statement from FIFA spokesperson reads thus, “We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter.”            

Jim Boyce, Britain’s FIFA vice-president and head of FIFA’s referees committee, also voiced his concerns about Suarez’s actions. “I have watched the incident several times on television. There is no doubt Luis Suarez is a fantastic footballer but, once again, his actions have left him open to severe criticism. FIFA must investigate the incident seriously and take whatever disciplinary action deemed necessary.”

Angry Keshi slams abusive Nigerian fans

This has got to do with the Nigeria Vs Iran match which ended goalless draw few weeks ago. According to Africanfootball.com, Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi is not really happy with the way some abusive Nigerian fans hurled insults at him and criticised his antics during the opening group game at the World Cup in Brazil.


“I am disappointed, totally disappointed by the personal attacks, but it’s their thing, no wahala. It’s a shame, just a shame that we keep doing the same thing and then they come back and they say they are sorry. Sorry for abusing my mum? Sorry for abusing my siblings? For what? That I am representing Nigeria?” He stated.
To be very candid, I understand Keshi’s point and there’s really no justification for the insults but really it was only natural for fans to react and express their opinion about the game. No one will give the team kudos when their performance is lacklustre.

According to reports, the zig-zag shaved into the Portuguese’s hair is to match the scar of a young fan, Erik Ortiz Cruz who recently had his brain tumor removed. Ronaldo actually paid £50,000 for his surgery. He might be a little selfish on pitch, but he is one thing off pitch, Selfless. And that’s not the first time he’ll be footing patients’ hospital bills. You’ve got to respect him for that seeming little act.

Brazil 2014: Cameroon's Alex Song handed 3-match ban

Cameroon midfielder, Alex Song has been handed a 3-match ban for three games for elbowing Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic in the back during a 4-0 loss last Wednesday. The Barcelona player who was sent off in the 40th minute when Croatia led 1-0 has also been fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($22,300) by FIFA’s disciplinary committee.

He’s automatically suspended for Cameroon’s clash with Brazil today, he is expected to complete his ban in Cameroon’s next two official matches.

Mario Balotelli wants a kiss from the Queen of England

Coming from Mario Balotelli, this should be a little surprising. The Italian wants a kiss from the Queen of England if Italy beats Costa Rica and keep England’s World Cup hopes alive. He wrote this on his official twitter account.

Balotelli might not have this request granted (in his dreams tho’) if Italy loses to or draws with Costa Rica this evening or if Italy beat Costa Rica but fail to beat Uruguay on Tuesday. England will remain in this tournament only if Italy beats both Costa Rica and Uruguay and England beat Costa Rica.

Brazil 2014: Arjen Robben sets new record.

Asides the fact that his team has not done badly so far, Netherlands winger, Arjen Robben has added another achievement to his list. He is now the world’s fastest footballer. The Bayern Munich talisman achieved the feat in the ongoing World Cup tournament. Last friday, on June 13, 2014 to be precise, he recorded a speed of 37km/h, the fastest ever clocked by a footballer during his team’s clash against Spain.

The record was previously held by Arsenal’s Theo Walcott who ran a recorded speed of 35.7km/h sometime in September 2010. The 25 year-old England player however congratulated him on twitter, “Robben, Congrats for beating my clocked speed but thought it looked a bit downhill. #SpeedMatters”.
