Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger inducted into Premier League Hall of Fame

Former Manchester United and Arsenal Football clubs coaches, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger have been inducted into the Premier League’s official Hall of Fame for 2023. They are the first managers to receive this honour.

Launched in 2021, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Wayne Rooney Dennis Bergkamp, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright have all been inducted.
“I’m truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. It’s an honour when you receive recognition like this. However, it’s not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I’m also proud for the club, the staff and my players. My job was to send the fans home happy. United’s history and my own expectations were the things that drove me, and I then had to try and develop all my players with the same expectations and make sure we could go out and achieve them.” Ferguson who won a record 13 titles and is deemed the most  successful manager in Premier League history said.

He continued, “I feel Arsene is a very worthy inductee as he transformed Arsenal Football Club fantastically. They became a tough team to compete with and we both wanted to win, which motivated us further.
“Through the years since retirement, we’d go for dinner together in a little restaurant he knows well in Switzerland. He is a really interesting man and I enjoy his company, but it is still my job to pick the wine!”
Wenger who was in charge of 828 Premier League matches and a league record 22 campaigns in Arsenal won 3 league titles was also elated about the honour,
“I’d like to be known as someone who loved Arsenal, who respected the values of the club and left it in a position where it can grow and become even bigger,” Wenger said. “To share this with Sir Alex is a great honour for me. It’s like two boxers, you fight like mad and go the distance together. At the end of the day, you have respect and it will be a great opportunity to meet with him, share a good bottle of wine and memories of our old battles.”

Unai Emery is the new Arsenal boss in-waiting

According to reports, Arsenal will appoint Unai Emery as their new manager and successor to Arsene Wenger. This development is coming days after the club made a decision not to offer Mikel Arteta the role at the Emirates Stadium.
The 46 year-old led Almería into La Liga for the first time, finishing 8th the following season. He also took Valencia to three consecutive 3rd place finishes in La Liga and is a three-time consecutive Europa League winner with Sevilla. PSG won the domestic treble under him this season. He is to be announced as Arsenal’s new manager within the next 48 hours.

Reacting to Wenger’s retirement in April, Emery said, “It is impossible to talk about Arsenal, the Premier League and the coaching profession without mentioning Arsene Wenger, one of the references without doubt. Thanks Arsene!”

Arsenal and Wenger agree contract extension.

Arsenal Football Club and Arsène Wenger have agreed a two-year extension to his contract as manager and has been reportedly handed  a £100m budget to spend in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Owner, Stan Kroenke said: “Our ambition is to win the Premier League and other major trophies in Europe. It’s what the fans, players, staff, manager and board expect and we won’t rest until that is achieved. Arsène is the best person to help us make that happen. He has a fantastic track record and has our full backing.”

Confirming the news, the Frenchman, said: “I love this club and I am looking forward to the future with optimism and excitement. We are looking at what we do well and how we can be stronger everywhere. This is a strong group of players and with some additions we can be even more successful. We’re committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season. I am grateful to have the support of the board and Stan in doing everything we can to win more trophies. It’s what we all want and I know it’s what our fans around the world demand.”

The 29th round of matches is upon us and there are a lot of new things happening in the English premier league except in the red part of North London. As usual the rounds of 16 matches of the UEFA champions’ league have passed and Arsenal will play no further part. Arsenal did not win the League Cup (Capital One Cup) and have not yet won that since Wenger took over reigns in 1996. Arsenal FC unseated Manchester United in 6th Position; 19 points behind league leaders Chelsea albeit with a game in hand and 6 points behind 4th placed Liverpool FC. Although Arsenal still has hopes alive in the F.A. Cup, the club has Manchester City awaiting them in the semi-final fixture with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs in the other semi final fixture. This situation makes the hope of silverware very bleak for the gunners this season leaving many fans to believe that the best the club can achieve this season is a top four finish to guarantee champions league football next season. Many of the club supporters are now very weary of this reality making them to bring back a now becoming familiar chant of #WengerOut.
While the man at the helm may have steered the club through really challenging times, many of the supporters of the club think that enough is enough and that both parties would be better if parted. Here are four reasons why the opinion of most fans 10-2 be correct.

  1. Wenger plays every team the same way: Whether it is Lincoln or Barcelona, Preston or Chelsea; whether the other team has 3 at the back or is playing a high pressing game, Arsenal under Wenger always set out with the same game play. The dynamics of the modern game does not give any club the luxury of getting a lot of success approaching every game the same way. The modern game has a name and change is that name, if you don’t change quickly enough, you are beaten. Managers who have tasted success more recently have simply understood this and give each game what it takes and not simply use a one approach fits all. The days Arsenal enjoyed a lot of success and very evidently had a more competitive squad, they fell short again and again by approaching every opposition with the same style of play.

2. All good things really have an end: You have to pick a time to leave and if you did not take your bow when the ovation is loudest, you have to take the walk even if it is without any ovation. At 21 years on the job, he is very easily the longest serving football manager in the world. When the salt has lost its taste, it’s really time to look for another seasoning.
3. Wenger has nothing new to offer: After 20 years of trying, we can tell that Wenger cannot win the champions league and the league cup with Arsenal. He has achieved the same level of success with various types and calibre of players, so we can tell it is not about how good the players are or are not, this is simply the best Wenger can produce and we have seen it all. It is injustice to all for a person who can no longer offer anything new to continue at a job when new methods and new victories is a constant expectation.
4. Wenger is no longer the shrewd man he was in the transfer market: I am trying really hard to remember the last shrewd business Wenger made in the transfer market, the way he has managed the club in the last 5 years at least, we have continuously seen youngsters prefer other rival clubs to coming to Arsenal. Without any name calling, Arsenal has missed out on a lot of potential stars for the future and the youngsters that have settled with Arsenal recently have not been outstanding. Apart from aptly signing Cech from Chelsea, there has not been that masterstroke he once had in transfer business. He even passed on the buyback clause Arsenal had on Cesc Fabregas with the resultant that Fabregas literally assisted Chelsea to the league at Arsenal’s expense. Transfer business is one highlight of Wenger’s success story and even that is gone, so #WengerOut.
With Wenger’s inability to cross the last sixteen of the champions’ league for many years now, inability to deliver the premiership even losing to Leicester city in 2016, poor transfer market dealings, tactical deficiency that makes his team approach every game with the same tactics and practically showing nothing new from his sleeves; it is time to kiss the professor goodbye. Hopefully in a new role in another football establishment, he can find success. Please #WengerOut.

‘I am big enough to say I am not right’ – Arsene Wenger accepts FA charge

 
Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger has said he will accept his Football Association misconduct charge. Recall that the frenchman had an altercation with a match official and got punished for it .
The 67 year-old was charged with verbally abusing and pushing fourth official Anthony Taylor after being sent off in the closing stages of the game involving his side and Burnley few days ago.
“Yes, I answered that in the press conference, I have little more to add. I am big enough to stand up for what I do. When I don’t behave like I think I should behave, I am big enough to say I am not right. I’m a passionate guy and I believe that I am completely committed in my job and want to win the football games.” He said

'I should have shut up, gone in and gone home' – Arsene Wenger has been charged with misconduct

Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger has been slapped with a misconduct charge by the Football Association (FA) following his altercation with fourth official Anthony Taylor on Sunday during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Burnley. Prior to the charge, Arsene Wenger was sent off from the technical area after allegedly abusing referee Jon Moss following the latter’s decision to award Burnley a late penalty but stopped near the tunnel to watch the rest of the match, before getting into a row with Taylor and pushing him away.

Although he apologized for his actions during his post-match press conference saying “I regret everything. I should have shut up, gone in and gone home. I apologize for that, Look, it was nothing bad. I said something that you hear every day in football. Overall nine times out of 10 you are not sent to the stand for that. If I am, I am and I should have shut up completely. I was quite calm the whole game, more than usual.” He is still facing disciplinary actions from the FA

“It is further alleged that following his dismissal from the technical area, his behaviour in remaining in the tunnel area and making physical contact with the fourth official amounted to improper conduct,” read an FA statement.

He has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the Football Association charge

Chamakh launches attack on Wenger

Morocco international, Marouane Chamakh is still
harbouring a grudge against his former boss, Arsene Wenger. The 32 year-old
forward who signed for Cardiff City earlier this week revealed that the French
manager did not give him much chance to prove himself at Arsenal, adding that
he showed him a lack of respect.
The former Crystal Palace player who joined the
Gunners in 2010 scored a total of 8 goals in 40 appearances before leaving
three years after. Chamakh revealed he counted on Wenger’s promises to him but
left after the coach overlooked him.
He told RMC, “When I started, it went really well. I
took advantage of Van Persie’s injuries, which cleared my path. I played for
six months, I scored goals, I contributed. In January, Robin came back from
injury and overnight I found myself on the bench without any explanation.

“Yes,
obviously I’m a little bit annoyed with [Wenger], because I think I deserved
more playing time than he gave and promised me. The year passed and at the
start of the next season, he told me that the tactical system would perhaps
change and that I would maybe start with Robin. It was only promises. There was
nothing at the end of them.

He continued, “That year, Robin was incredible, he
was player of the year. I couldn’t say anything, and I wasn’t going to go and
see Wenger and tell him that I should be playing instead. Robin was a lot
better than me.

“For
the ambitions I had, I think it was a little bit of a lack of respect. I had
started well, and overnight he forgot about me just like that.

“He
asked me to be patient, told me that Robin wouldn’t play more than 10 matches
in a row, that he would get injured, but it lasted the whole year. There came a
time when I had to make a decision and I left the club.”

Wenger reportedly refuses to let Mourinho sit beside him at a UEFA conference

This is many shades of funny.

Arsene Wenger reignited his beef with Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho today after he refused to let the latter sit beside him at a UEFA managers’ conference.

Mourinho arrived late at a speech being delivered by an Old Trafford great,
Sir Alex Ferguson. Spotting a seat opposite Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai
Emery and Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and next to Wenger, the 53-year-old
asked if he could occupy the space. Without batting an eyelid, Wenger replied:
‘No, it isn’t possible.’ Wenger is regarded as having ‘won’ the exchange, with
other managers in the room laughing at his response to the Manchester United
boss.

Wenger needs to chill.
