Lack of leadership responsible for Arsenal's defeat against West Ham – George Graham

Former Arsenal Manager, George Graham has attributed the gunners’ opening game defeat to a lack of leadership at the club. Graham, who led Arsenal to two league titles during his tenure as the club’s manager, singled out Mesut Ozil for criticism after West Ham secured a deserved victory at Emirates Stadium.

“There is a lack of leadership at the club,” Graham told talkSPORT. “I don’t see anyone get a grip. Ozil was very quiet, we never really saw him. I expect more from him and boss games.
“[Santi] Cazorla was on the left wing in the first half and he doesn’t like playing there. You are looking for the big names to perform, but they just didn’t do it. I was very disappointed and very, very surprised. Their preseason form has been excellent and I thought let’s go at them right from the first 20 minutes.

“Yet after 25 minutes, both sides had 50 percent possession. When does the away team have that at the Emirates? We saw the normal good passing movements at times, but that came late on when the game was almost finished. You would like to think it is a blip and they will go on a run and climb into the top two or three positions. Before the season started, they were one of the favourites to win it and they still can do that. Let’s wait until October and then we can see where we are.”

Petr Cech struggled on his Arsenal debut as he was singled out on both of West Ham’s goals, but Graham, who also lost at home to the Hammers during his reign, felt the shot-stopper’s defence was at fault for the second strike by Mauro Zarate.

“He made a decision to come early on the first goal and he never got there,” Graham added.  “When you make that decision, you have to get there. It was a big mistake, his fault. “The second one, I have some sympathy for him because [Laurent] Koscielny stood back and invited the guy to have a shot from 20 yards. I thought he was a bit blinded by Koscielny as well. “Cech has been used to playing with defenders at Chelsea who close the ball down and there is no better player at doing that than John Terry. Two Arsenal defenders stood back and asked the West Ham player to have a shot and they paid the price.”

Arsenal start on a dull note, suffer shocking 2-0 home defeat

Arsenal Fc began their league campaign on a poor note as they suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the Emirates earlier today.
Errors from their biggest summer signing,  Petr Cech prevented the team from having a flying start anticipated by fans and several pundits.
Cech was caught out when West Ham midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate headed in a first-half free kick and then Mauro Zarate slotted home a second on the break after 57 minutes to leave Gunners boss Arsene Wenger facing more questions about the direction of his side.
West Ham started with 16-year-old Reece Oxford in midfield, and he put in a mature display at the back.
Wenger was forced to use Alexis Sanchez a surprise substitute but he could not inspire the Gunners back into the game.
The defeat leaves Arsenal in the last position on the log and some fans are already showing concerns regarding the intent of the club to charge for the league title.

One month after his switch to Arsenal Petr Cech wins 3 trophies in 3 games

Following his switch from Chelsea  last month, Cech Republic international, Petr Cech has added three trophies to his shelf. First game for Arsenal, he won a trophy, first home game, he won a trophy, first against his former team, the ace goalkeeper won a trophy still and is it not ironic that he dons the no three jersey? He picked the third gong today after his side’s 1-0 Community Shield victory against Chelsea.  Heard Jose Mourinho congratulated all Arsenal players and threw his Community Shield medal into the crowd. Someone please remind him that everyday isn’t holiday and yes tables do turn.

Arsenal win the community shield

Arsenal triumphed over Chelsea to win the community shield at Wembley in front of thousands of elated supporters. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain’s 24th minute stunning strike gave Wenger his first victory over rival, Jose Mourinho. A convincing Arsenal side went on to miss more clear chances on goal but held on to their 1goal lead to win the preseason trophy.
Defender Per Mertesacker felt the victory over their title rivals shows the quality of squad that is set to start the season at the Emirates Stadium. “It’s another win – we have had a decent pre-season so far,” said the German. “It is a little title for us that keeps our confidence high, so it’s great for us,” he said.

Wins over Arsenal are not special – Mourinho

Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho said in an interview that victories over Arsenal does not make him extremely happy or special. The manager made the statement ahead of their community shield clash tomorrow at the Wembley. When asked if he takes pride in his record against Wenger, Mourinho replied: “No. It doesn’t matter, Arsenal, the manager, whoever.
“I think [the Community Shield is] in between. It’s more than a friendly, like with Barcelona and PSG [friendlies], but it’s less than a league game. Different motivation. Who knows?” he said when questioned on Wenger’s ability to win. “I’ve never made a special thing about wins over Arsenal. I don’t explode with happiness when I beat them, and I won’t make drama when I lose.”

Mourinho and Wenger have a long-standing rivalry, with the Frenchman yet to beat his counterpart in 13 attempts, while the Blues manager described the 65-year-old as a “specialist in failure” 18 months ago.

Arsenal win the Emirates cup

Theo Walcott’s goal ensured Arsenal’s triumph over Wolfsburg and won Arsenal the Emirates cup for the first time in five years. Having hammered Lyon 6-0 24 hours earlier, Arsenal were favourites to win their own friendly competition.
Saturday’s man of the match Mesut Ozil was the only player retained against the Bundesliga runners-up as Arsene Wenger rotated his starting line-up ahead of next
weekend’s Community Shield meeting with Chelsea.

Arsenal maul Lyon in preseason friendly

An Ozil-inspired Arsenal side hammered Lyon 6-0 in a preseason friendly match.
An impressive and highly entertaining display from the gunners saw them scoring four goals in the opening nine minutes of the game to the frustration of Lyon in the Emirates cup first match.
Giroud opened the scoring in the 29th minute, when he turned in an Ozil free-kick with his shoulder despite having his shirt pulled.

The Gunners doubled their lead soon after, this time Oxlade-Chamberlain collected a pass from Giroud after some smart work by Ramsey and drilled a low shot past Anthony Lopes in the Lyon goal. It got even better for Wenger’s side as Iwobi finished off another attack almost from the restart, the teenager striking home Ramsey’s pass with aplomb following yet another a free-flowing move.
Ramsey added the fourth from an Ozil cross. Ozil grabbed the fifth with a cool finish in the 62nd minute. And Cazorla’s low free-kick 13 minutes later settled the score on an impressive day for the Gunners.

Arsenal have £200M and can buy anyone – club official

Arsenal director, Lord Harris has revealed that the club have over £200M in bank and are buoyant enough to sign any player in the world except Ronaldo and Messi.
Harris told The Daily mail that the club no longer bear the financial implications that stemmed out of the construction of the Emirates stadium.
“Money was tight when we moved to the Emirates but it’s a lot freer now”
“we could go into the market and probably buy any player in the world, apart from half a dozen who are unbuyable. In the accounts, there is over £200M in the bank”.
He also indicated that the club is on the brink of landing a center forward.
“we get a list of the players that Wenger wants and on the list is a center forward but I’m not going to tell you who he is” “you’ve got to get the other team to want to sell him but I think he wants to come”
