Photo: 2face threatens to sue Blackface over defamatory remarks

Award-winning musician, Innocent ‘2face’ Idibia, has demanded an apology from his former band mate, Blackface over defamatory remarks. The latter, countless times has taken to his social media accounts to accuse his ex colleague of copyright infringement on some of his songs as well as ‘killing’ the Plantashun Boiz group.  In a letter sent through his lawyers, Seun Omotoba & Co, dated May 5. 2face gave him a one-week ultimatum to retract his statements or face legal actions.

Protest: 2face's foundation releases official statement

The 2face Foundation, has released a statement of apology over the shelved nationwide protest, scheduled for today, February 6, 2017. Read the note below:

On behalf of Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, we would like to apologize to the fans, colleagues and everyday Nigerians who feel let down by the cancellation of this protest. 2Baba’s aim was to lend his voice to make the government aware of the growing discontent due to the wildly escalating  cost of living for Nigerians in Nigeria among other issues.

 Arguably one of the country’s most influential musicians, he saw it fit to use his considerable platform; at the core of which are Nigerians, to  amplify their voice. This is why he chose to march for the cause,  and why he was so honoured when his industry colleagues pledged their support.

 In line with the commitment of One Voice Nigeria to ensure a peaceful and impactful protest, The 2face Foundation and partners engaged with the security agencies to resolve all major security concerns but treacherous gaps remain that we are unwilling to ignore. 

 The risk of hijack by various political and sundry interests intent on using the platform to drive agendas that we as The 2face Foundation are not aligned with and therefore exposing protesters to high levels of danger is the main reason why 2baba regretfully had to withdraw himself from the march. He has refused to inadvertently present a platform for mischief makers to exploit. 

 2baba would like to express his great regret over these circumstances to everyone who feels disappointed. However, he hopes they will agree that as he said in the video announcing the development; ‘no protest is worthy he blood of any Nigerian’. He would also like to thank everyone; both individuals, and bodies like EiE which offered their support to him, and applaud their devotion to the nation.
 The primary objective of the planned protest as stated from the very beginning was to aggregate the voices of the people and present to leadership at all levels who may be unclear about the reality of the hardship faced by Nigerians. 
 We have no doubt that we have articulated our demands and have been heard LOUD and CLEAR. We urge a quick and positive response from government and encourage Nigerians to take a cue from this experience and never hesitate to stand up to the leadership on any and every situation that requires action.
 2baba will continue channel his passion for these issues using a range of effective channels in the future. He promises to continue working on avenues to help the Nigerian people be heard, he feels that is the least they deserve.

2face Idibia named youth ambassador for National Youth Council Of Nigeria

Nigerian music star, Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia has been conferred as Youth Ambassador for the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). The celebrated music star was issued his certificate of conferment during the International Youth Day celebration which took place at the Samuel Ogebemudia Stadium, Edo State.

Prior to his conferment, 2Baba on the 11th of August, 2016 spearheaded a ‘VOTE NOT FIGHT’ campaign session which held at the Youth Centre in Benin, Edo State. He spent the day sensitizing the youth on the need to remain peaceful during and after the forthcoming electoral process. 

2Baba spoke at length to the youth, on the need to refuse being lured into violence by power hungry politicians and enjoined the gubernatorial elections candidates who were present at the session, to not adopt a do-or- die mentality towards the forthcoming elections. He further urged candidates to maintain the peace despite the result of the elections. The speech was met with a rousing applause from his audience after which he made both candidates and youth sign the VNF pledge form and make public statements to show their commitment to the VNF campaign.

The award winning songster also embarked on a media tour to propagate the message of non-violence during elections. This  followed  the very successful first phase of the ‘VOTE NOTFIGHT’ campaign.
His first stop was at the ITV studios where  he discussed the ideals of the ‘VOTE NOT FIGHT’ campaign with TV host, Emmanuel Akpolohor. He proceeded to Raypower 105.5fm studios also in Benin city, where he shed more light on the workshop and rally held on the 11th of August, 2016.

2face Idibia's works to be unveiled at the Grammy Museum's new exhibit.

Legendary musician, Innocent ‘2baba’ Idibia will have his works are unveiled at the Grammy Museum’s new exhibit dubbed “Sounds of Africa”. The event which will  focus on displaying and celebrating legacies in the African music industry will feature other legendary acts like Angelique Kidjo, Salif Keith, Mafikizolo among others. These artistes who are also winners of Grammy awards and BET awards respectively, are being celebrated for their creative process as well as the art/ technology of their recording process.

The event which is put together by Grammy Museum and Black Entertainment Television (BET) will hold on the 24th of June, 2016 and will be on temporary display till the end of the year. The exhibition will feature handwritten lyrics, costumes, and an array of rare musical instruments. Other legendary artistes on exhibition include Nigerian visual artist Laolu Senbanjo, Nigerian singer/ songwriter Sir Victor Uwaifo, Ice Prince and Congolese rumba singer/songwriter Tabu Ley Rochereau.

Singer, 2face Idibia now has a street named after him at Richmond Estates in Lekki area of Lagos, thanks to Real estate company, Haven Homes. The Nigerian music icon made the disclosure via a video shared on his  Instagram.

2face's daughter honoured in the US

The resemblance between father and daughter is unmistakable. The legendary singer took to his instagram page to celebrate his daughter with Pero Adeniyi, Ehibenzy Idibia who was honoured by the Council of Elders of the black community of Howard County in the US. The beautiful girl was presented with with a certificate of achievement.

2Face Idibia’s Biography Set For Public Presentation

The ‘i’s have been dotted, the ‘t’s crossed, the biography of African music legend, 2face Idibia titled, ‘A Very Good Bad Guy: The Story of Innocent ‘2face’ is finally set for public presentation. The event has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday October 20, 2015 at the Terra Kulture, Victoria Island in Lagos.
The 460-paged book will contain a wide range of materials on Idibia’s life and times, including accounts from his mother, his wife, siblings, colleagues and mentors. It will also contain selected lyrics and discography, as well as editorial materials dating as far back as 2005.
The biography, done in commemoration of the singer’s 40th birthday, is a first-of-its-kind for any pop star in Idibia’s category, and the first by any contemporary Nigerian media platform. Fully funded and edited by NET News, owners of Newsroom, THENETNG, Orin, NECLive and Star, the biography is part of the NET Book Series, a dedicated project to document an important era in Nigeria’s creative industry.

‘It’s the first of many’, NET publisher and Idibia’s former publicist Ayeni Adekunle says.

Already confirmed for Idibia’s book launch are the duo of Tee A and Ali Baba who will serve as event host and book reviewer respectively.
The event will also feature a live conversation between book editor Ayeni Adekunle and 2face Idibia.
In an emotional tribute to be featured in the book, Idibia’s wife Annie writes ‘Innocent is an extraordinary being. I remember when we were so young. He was 24, I was 15. And I still see the same man when I look at him…’

Journalist Olumide Iyanda who pens the foreword says of the singer: ‘…he never rose to a level he could not sustain. Many have come and gone since year 2000. But 2face is still setting an agenda for what and entertainer should look and sound like.  He is proof that patience and true love pays.’

The man who gave him his first gig, Edi Lawani describes 2face as a ‘multi-dimensional man whose life defies definite analysis.  He is an immensely blessed person, almost unfairly gifted…’

And confirming the character trait many already attest to, his manager Efe Omorogbe says ‘he’s never said something to me that I found to be untrue.  People often suggest that he is gullible and easy to manipulate. But they have no clue. It’s hard to get him to do what he isn’t sold on- make no mistake; the frail-looking, happy-go-lucky, ‘unserious’ guy can be tough as nails when he chooses to be…’
Idibia himself, in a rare interview published in the book says  ‘I come from a poor background. Poor in the sense of money, not in spirit…’
The 2face Idibia biography is the second instalment in NET’s Book Series, following the publication of Chris Ihidero’s ‘Wanderings of a Rapidly Degenerating Mind’ earlier this year. The book project is projected to replace the company’s weekly print newspaper which has in recent times been epileptic and is already scheduled to go off the stands later this month.

2face Idibia is 40 already??? Wowza! The African music icon will be a year older on September 18. And as part of the celebrations, Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) will be unveiling the singer’s biography, titled ‘A Very Good Bad guy: The Story Of Innocent 2Face Idibia.’

The book which was edited by veteran journalist and 2face’s former publicist Ayeni Adekunle will contain detailed interview with 2face, lyrics and discography, views from some of those who have shaped his life and career, an insider’s journey through his life and times, as well as a collection of some of the most important articles, reviews, features and news about him since 2004.
Speaking about the project, 2Face himself said,  ‘It’s a really good feeling knowing that all these years that

I’ve been surviving in this industry, someone has been taking note you know…compiling my story so that on an occasion like this, they will release it for the world to see. I’m really feeling the love but importantly I hope those coming behind will read and learn from my story.’

 ‘Apart from being a fantastic musician and a wonderful person, 2Face is also a personal friend and source of inspiration; so few things give me as much joy as being able to give this gentleman some of the recognition he deserves on the occasion of his 40th birthday. These are important projects Nigeria must do for our cultural posterity. We must tell our stories and document our history. NET is delighted to compile the life stories of this cultural icon of our times so that our children and our children’s children can read it and learn.
