2015 Elections: 14 offences voters must avoid

As Nigerian Elections start tomorrow, The Nigeria Police Force has urged electorates to avoid the following offences during the voting exercises.
• Casting of vote twice or more
• Announcing false election result
• Stopping any other person from voting
• Revealing information on a ballot paper of another person
• Being in possession of another person’s voter card
• Disorderly Behaviour at polling unit
• Canvassing for votes at polling unit
• Shouting Slogan of a political party at polling unit
• Being armed with guns, sticks, stones or any other dangerous weapons at polling unit
• Loitering or walking about in a poling unit
• Using siren at a polling unit
• Snatching or destroying ballot boxes or Card readers
• Holding public meeting during election hours on Election Day
• Wearing or carrying badge or poster of a political party
• Inflicting or threatening to inflict injury on any person or persons at a polling unit

I call on all Nigerians to peacefully express your views and to reject the voices of those who call for violence. And when elections are free and fair, it is the responsibility of all citizens to help keep the peace, no matter who wins.

Successful elections and democratic progress will help Nigeria meet the urgent challenges you face today. Boko Haram—a brutal terrorist group that kills innocent men, women and children—must be stopped.
Hundreds of kidnapped children deserve to be returned to their families. Nigerians who have been forced to flee deserve to return to their homes. Boko Haram wants to destroy Nigeria and all that you have worked to build. By casting your ballot, you can help secure your nation’s progress.
I’m told that there is a saying in your country: “to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.” Today, I urge all Nigerians—from all religions, all ethnic groups, and all regions—to come together and keep Nigeria one.
And in this task of advancing the security, prosperity, and human rights of all Nigerians, you will continue to have a friend and partner in the United States of America.

I have 60 reasons not to vote for Jonathan – Wole Soyinka

Multi award-winning writer and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has implored Nigerians not to vote for the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming Presidential elections.
The renowned author made the declaration yesterday while speaking to ‎students at the 2015 edition of Vision of the ‎Child (VOTC) programme.
Citing the kidnap of the over 200 Chibok school girls last year, Soyinka stated‎ that Jonathan’s leadership has failed in his duties and thus doesn’t deserve a second term.‎
 “I have ‎sixty reasons ‎not to vote for the Jonathan regime. ‎I will not vote and I will not encourage anyone to vote for ‎the ‎continuation of this government, simply because your ‎colleagues numbering over two hundred were kidnapped.” He said.‎

He continued, “And the government of this nation failed to show leadership. ‎So anyone who says after that ‎event that ‎I will vote or cast ‎my vote or ‎encourage anyone to vote for this regime must be ‎living in Sambisa forest.‎There has been a failure of leadership. Our children whom ‎you represent today have been betrayed.‎”

“After that dereliction of duty, after that failure of leadership, ‎after that betrayal for our future, for anyone to ‎think or to put ‎words in my mouth suggesting that I will vote or encourage ‎anyone to vote for this regime is a travesty of intelligence.”

2015 elections: INEC unveils list of 15 governorship candidates in Lagos.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC); the electoral body set up to oversee elections in Nigeria has unveiled the names of 15 candidates jostling for the gubernatorial seat of Lagos State in the 2015 elections.
The display is in accordance with the provision of the Electoral Act as amended. The biggest contenders however remain; Akinwunmi Ambode – Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Olujimi Agbaje – Governorship candidate for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meet the Candidates.

(1) Ayodele Akele – Governorship candidate. Running mate- Dr Akinlade Babafemi. National Conscience Party (NCP)
(2) Pauline Adegbe – Governorship candidate. Running mate- Olamide Oguntoyinbo Progressives Peoples’ Alliance (PPA)

2015 elections: Nigerians contribute N44.5m for Buhari's campaign.

All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that Nigerians have so far contributed the sum of N44.5m towards his campaign for the 2015 general elections.
Speaking to some journalists today at Abuja, GMB has widely called said the donations were made through direct deposit and sale of donation cards.
Citing US President Barack Obama, he added that he asked his supporters to contribute towards his campaign and is overwhelmed by the support he’s received so far.‎

GhenGhen! Oba of Lagos says he would reveal some deep secrets after 2015 general elections.

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, during the public presentation of a book: “Corruption and Human Rights Law in Africa” yesterday said he would reveal some deep secrets after the 2015 general elections. The traditional ruler made the statement after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, said only two out of the country’s renowned monarchs corruption-free.

“I will shake this nation after the election in February. The man who made the statement that I lifted oil should cover his face in shame because I was still a serving police officer. Those who collected Abacha money know themselves and I will quote witnesses.
Let us stop apportioning blames, forget the past and work towards a better future for this country. Do not put 100 percent blame on President Goodluck Jonathan because the person who caused the problem knows himself”, Akiolu said.

"If I don’t perform my duties, let the people stone me". Singer, Kenny Saint Best ventures into politics.

Kennis music singer, Kenny Saint Best just like other entertainers has also made her political ambition known. Come 2015, the award-winning Gospel act will be vying for a position at the Lagos state house of assembly under the aegis of the APC. In an interview with NET, KSB stated that she’s delving into politics to change the face of youth development in Ikeja and Lagos as a whole.
According to her, “I just want to serve, and if the platform that will give me the opportunity to serve is politics then I’m ready for it. If I don’t perform my duties, let the people stone me and say KSB you have failed the Nigerian youths.”

I took the news with a pinch of salt initially but when I saw this photo, I believed. But really it is hard not to believe this is not another creative comedy skit. Ace comedian Julius D’genius Agwu has shown interest in running for the seat of the Governor of Rivers State. He, just like other politicians wants to effect change in his state.

I hope he doesn’t come out to say the photo isn’t real or another skit.
