The maiden editon of the Nigeria Food Industry Awards (NFIA) held at The Golden Tulip Hotel, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, May 30th turned out to be a night of honour, recognition ,and reward for outstanding food brands and exceptional individuals who got rewarded for their continious creation of excellent products and delivery of splendid services in safeguarding the health of Nigerians.Awards were in fourteen different categories ranging from the Milk of the year, Beef sausage roll of the year as well as awards for food industry state of the year , food industry bank of the year , and outstanding contribution award.
The event which was themed around food safety had a keynote speech address presented by Mr Oluwaseyi Adeyemo, publisher Inside Watch Africa magazine. In his presentation , Adeyemo appreciated the efforts of the organisers of the award for daring to pioneer an initiative like this, and the entreated the guests to strive for food safety consciousness and push for optimum service delivery in the Nigeria food industry.
The night was also spiced up by performances from Gt d Guitarman, comedy skits from Laff-up who was the event compeer, which further added glamour to this black tie event.
The winners were then announced across categories with Peak milk winning in the milk of the year award, Sweet sensations winning in the fast food outlet of the year award, and First bank clinching the award for the food industry bank of the year.Alhaji Aliko Dangote also won the award for his outstanding contributions in the Nigeria food industry .'
In Nigeria today , there are a variety of food brands with irregular quality of foods and services. Profitmaking
is surpassing the passion for good quality and world class standards. The Nigeria food industry awards is a national transformation initiative geared towards safeguarding the health of Nigerians, and also to improve food quality in Nigeria' says Olulade Omoniyi who is the awards director.
As Nigeria joined the rest of the world in marking the World Hunger Day on 28th May, 2012, The Nigeria Food Industry Awards had an Hunger Fair that allowed guests to BUY-FOR-CHARITY from various companies and organizations that were present to exhibit exotic items for sale at flexible rates.
The proceeds made by all these companies and organization thereafter, at the green carpet will be donated to charity organizations .The fair was used as a medium to reach out to the Hungry in the society.
