The supremacy battle between soccer
greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo rages on. ex Netherlands player
Edgar Davids  has also joined in the debate. Speaking after FIFA released
the top three nominees for the FIFA Ballon D’Or, the former Tottenham who
tipped the Argentine to win the prize also explained the difference between the
fierce rivals.
The 42 year-old Dutch said: “Messi is just
an anomaly: he can dribble, he can score, he can pass, he has the vision, he
understands the game… Ronaldo is just an athlete. He works so hard and
back to back, he is always there. But if you work hard, can you be like
Messi? No, that’s impossible. Can you be like Ronaldo? Yes, to a certain
extent.”

If Man United can sign a match-winner, they can be as good as Barcelona – Gary Neville

Ex Manchester United player, Gary Neville has implored the club’s current manager, Louis Van Gaal to take advantage of the January transfer window and strengthen the squad. The Old Trafford legend opined that The Red Devils are a couple of players away from winning the EPL title. He added that the club needs top-notch players like Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Neymar or Real Madrid superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Speaking after Manchester United’s clash with Leicester City, Neville said
“If you put two more players into Manchester United, that team could win the league. If you put two more players into Manchester United’s team, say a Gareth Bale or a Cristiano Ronaldo into that team, that team could win the league. Because the structure that is being built at this moment in time is solid.

“But they need that match-winner, that Neymar, that Luis Suarez, the one that is going to light up a game and score one or two goals to take it away, then all of a sudden they would look like a Barcelona, because they’re dominating possession, making teams look foolish.

“Even in the last 15 minutes, they didn’t fully commit to winning the game.

“Historically, you would like to see punch after punch, you would want to see bodies being thrown forward, but you might get caught on the counter attack and lose 2-1 that way.

“But that’s not the way in which this Manchester United team play, and the heart wants them to go forward, commit players and be reckless in some ways.

“I do think they are quite close when I think about it with my head, but my heart thinks I’d like to see them die trying a little bit more and go for it.

“But he’s a year-and-a-half in, Louis van Gaal, and he should get a lot more time to do what he wants to do.

“I was in the same opinion when David Moyes was at Manchester United, and I’m in the same opinion now.”

Siasia's mother kidnap: Family not impressed with FG, NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are yet to get in touch with the family of Nigeria Under 23 team coach, Samson Siasia, who was kidnapped 10 days ago, Dennis Siasia, a sibling to the ex-Nigeria international has claimed . Their matriarch, Mrs Ogere Siasia, was abducted at their family house in Bayelsa and whisked away on a motorcycle over a week ago, albeit the governing body made an appeal to the gunmen to free the 72 year-old, Dennis said, the NFF hasn’t contacted the family since the incident occurred.
The family who is yet to meet up with the outrageous demands of the kidnappers have also appealed to the Federal Government to track the kidnappers down and rescue their aged mother.
Dennis told NationSport, “It is disheartening that the NFF has not deemed it fit to get in touch with the family since the incident happened last week. They were only talking to Samson, who is far away in Gambia for national assignment, and, for us, we think this is not the appropriate thing to do as this might distract the coach from doing his job. For now, it is only the family they are supposed to have contacted because the coach is not here and they just need to leave him to focus on his duty because if the team fails to qualify they will blame him.
“The last time we spoke to the kidnappers was on Saturday, when they said they would bury Mama if we failed to meet their demand and we told them that we don’t have the kind of money they are requesting for as we were only able to raise N600, 000, from their voice, they were angry. As at this morning (Tuesday) they have not called and we have not heard from them. Although we spoke to Mama and I think she is okay.”
He also commended the efforts of the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Directorate of State Security (DSS).
“I must tell you that the CP and DSS Director have been working with the family on this and this has been how far we had gone. I must let them realize that Samson has served this country as a player, and now he is a coach on national assignment in Gambia and I don’t think he needs any distraction for now in Gambia.”
The latest development (as at this morning) is that the kidnappers have reduced the ransom to N32m.

I am not replacing Benitez – Zinedine

Real Madrid’s reserve team coach Zinedine Zidane has rubbished talks of him replacing Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid head coach. This development is coming after Barca went on rampage against the Spanish side scoring 4-0 in the first El clasico of the season. Real haven’t suffered such humiliating defeat at home by their fierce rivals since at 2009. There are reports that Benitez who has lost just once in his first 15 games in charge of the Blancos could be axed and replaced with the ex France international as the 12th manager.
Zinedine has claimed that nothing of such is happening. “I am the coach of the Castilla reserves. Benitez is the first-team coach and things are fine as well. I’m happy with what we’ve done today with the Castilla against a difficult rival. I stayed to train the Castilla. Last year I went away with the feeling that something was missing for me. I am stubborn and when the objective is not fulfilled it is necessary to do it.”
The French boss continued, “I have a lot to learn but a trainer is never [fully] prepared. I am doing this, like a player, little by little. I do no rush anything. The present is Castilla and we are going to continue like that.”

Following last friday’s attacks
at the Stade de France during the international friendly
between France and Germany which
left more than 120 people dead, The Belgian and Spanish football
federations have cancelled the international friendly between their two
teams which was scheduled to be played at the Stade Roi
Baudouin over
security concerns. The mastermind of the attacks has been traced to Belgium.
“In
consultation with the competent authorities and the Spanish national team, the
Belgian FA has decided to cancel the match. At the very end of the evening the
Belgian FA was contacted by the government, who made the recommendation not to
play tomorrow’s match. This is because the terror alert level is high and with
the current leakage of a suspicious person,” The Royal Belgian
Football Association ( RBFA) said in a statement on Tuesday.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque
who held an impromptu press conference from the national team’s plane following
the cancellation of the game said “We don’t know for sure the reasons why it’s
been called off, but we’ve assumed. We were hoping to play the game, it was the
last of the year, but the security reasons were strong.

“We trained with tranquillity,
we’ve prepared for the game like any other, but the authorities will have felt
they couldn’t guarantee the security of everybody, the players and spectators.
We weren’t scared. We were calm in the hotel, there wasn’t any problem.
Hopefully there won’t be any more suspensions. We’re here to play sport and
entertain people.”

Bayern Munich to offer Pep Guardiola £17m-a-year salary to snub Premier League

 Quite
an interesting one. Speculation is rife that Bayern Munich are planning to
offer the club’s current coach, Pep Guardiola a whooping £17m-a-year salary to stay
at the club and snub offers from English Premier League clubs. The ex Barcelona
boss who has found himself topping the list of most-wanted managers in England is
currently the highest paid boss in the world earning £14m-a-year.
He has
been heavily linked to Manchester United, Arsenal and even Chelsea.

The
German club are reportedly looking to keep him in the club till 2018 with a
better and irresistible pay package loaded with incentives and bonuses.

Chelsea can still make top four – Harry Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is confident title defenders, Chelsea FC can finish in the Premier League’s top four despite their disastrous season. The Blues who currently sit at the 16th positon on the Premier League standings have not lost more than 6 matches in their first 11 league matches since 1978.
This season alone, the Champions of England have lost 7 times in 12 games. Kane, however, believes that the club is capable of turning their season around.
“Obviously they’re not playing very well at the moment but I wouldn’t write them off. They were champions last year for a reason. “ He said.
