World’s most charitable sport star, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly donated 3 million Euros to the families of the Brazilian players who died in a plane crash in Colombia yesterday.
The Portuguese has supported a humber of charities including Unicef, Save The Children to mention a few. Last year, he donated 5 million Euros in Nepal shortly after earthquake killed over 8000 citizens of the country.
Plane carrying Brazilian football team crashes in Colombia
It’s a sad day for football.
A charter aircraft carrying members of Brazilian football team, Chapecoense reportedly crashed this morning in Colombia due to lack of fuel.
The team was to play Copa Sudamerica (equivalent to the Europa League in Europe) finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin. The South American Football Confederation has confirmed that they are suspending all activities until further notice.
More than 75 people out of 81 on board have been feared dead.. Rescue operations have been halted due to rain.
May their souls of the departed find repose. Amen.
Kenneth Omeruo awarded 2016 Turkish Sports Personality of the Year.
Alanyaspor defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has been named the 2016 Turkish Sports Personality of the Year. The honour was bestowed on the former Nigerian player in recognition of his contributions in the support of African Entertainers based in Turkey.

There has been an outpour of heartfelt tributes to Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard since he announced his retirement from professional football. yesterday. The likes of David Beckham, Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres, Patrice Evra, Frank Lampard have taken to their social media platforms to eulogize the former England captain and wish him a happy retirement.
In other news, reports claim Gerrard is close to agreeing a role to coach at LFC’s academy.

Samuel Eto'o faces 10-year prison sentence and £12million fine
Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Eto’o has been accused of tax fraud in Spain.
El Pais reports that he defrauded Spanish tax authority of almost £3million from 2006 to 2009 during his spell at Barcelona. If found guilty, he could face at least 10 years in prison.
Eto’o allegedly ran two companies — Bulte 2002 in Spain and Tradesport in Hungary — and this allowed him to transfer his image rights between the two and avoid pay of tax.
Spanish prosecutors are not only seeking a prison term for the ex Chelsea forward, they are also demanding a fine of $15.1 million (£12million) for the four counts of tax fraud.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Gareth Bale will undergo surgery on an ankle injury and would be out for 4 months. The Welsh international suffered a traumatic dislocation of his peroneal tendons of his right ankle during his side’s Champions League game with Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday. He will no more feature in any game in 2016 and few months in 2017.
Steven Gerrard announces retirement from professional football.
We knew he was quitting the MLS but what we never saw coming was his decision to stop lacing the boots. Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has announced his retirement from professional football after an illustrious 19- year career. In a lengthy post he made on his instagram page, the 36 year-old thanked his teammates, coaches and family adding that he will announce the next stage of his career soon.
Following recent media speculation surrounding my future I can confirm my retirement from playing professional football.I have had an incredible career and am thankful for each and every moment of my time at Liverpool, England and LA Galaxy.
I feel very fortunate to have had the career I’ve had but none of it would have been possible without the support of so many people.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone at Liverpool Football Club. I am proud to have played for and captained Liverpool for so many years and to have achieved what we achieved during my time at the club.
I was lucky to play alongside some great players and under some fantastic managers during my time at Anfield and would like to thank each and every one of them, as well as all of the backroom staff at the club for the fantastic support they showed me.

Spanish court calls for 2-year prison sentence for Neymar
A Spanish public prosecutor, Jose Perals has called for Barcelona player Neymar to be handed 2-year prison sentence following his involvement in a corruption case over his transfer from Brazilian club Santos to the Liga champions in 2013. The judge also wants former Barca president Sandro Rosel jailed for 5 years and Barca fined 8.4 million euros ($8.9 million).
The Brazilian became enmeshed in a corruption scandal after a Brazilian investment group, DIS, which owned 40 percent of Brazil forward Neymar’s transfer rights alleged it received less money than it was entitled to as Barca concealed the real transfer fee. Jose Barral, chairman of Sonda, umbrella group for DIS, wants Barca to pay compensation while Neymar be banned from playing during the trial.

Didier Drogba to leave Montreal Impact at the end of the season.
Didier Drogba has confirmed he will leave Montreal Impact at the end of the season. He’s played in his last home game against Toronto FC few days ago, he was cheered in the 71st minute of the game and given a special farewell tribute on the field after the match. In 18 months, the Ivorian has scored 22 goals and provided 4 assists in 32 games for the MLS club.
“My contract ends at the end of the season and I won’t be returning. I want to end things well, out of respect for everything the people here, the city, have given me. I was disappointed with the result, but we will do everything to qualify to the final. I don’t think the adventure will end in Toronto.” Drogba announced.
He continued, “I had one and a half years of good emotions. I think we made history. And when I came I here for the first time, last season we played against Columbus in the semifinal and this year we’re in the conference final, so it’s a good progress. I’m quite happy with the way things are going and I think I kind of reached the target, but there’s still more work to do. There’s still 90 minutes to play and a lot of things will happen in those 90 minutes. I hope we’re going to be happy by the end of it.”
Monreal Impact captain Patrice Bernier, also paid tribute to the Chelsea legend. “Didier brought so much on the field, off the field, with his leadership and experience and he brought a human factor as well. It was great to get to know him more. I was happy the club honored him after the game. But it’s not over yet — there’s still one or maybe two games to play.”
