In a rather shocking and disappointing turn of events, reigning England Champions, Leicester City have fired their coach, Claudio Ranieri, less than 10 months after he led them to the top of English football. The decision was reached after a meeting today.
A statement from the Club read: “Domestic results in the current campaign have placed the Club’s Premier League status under threat and the Board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the Club’s greatest interest.
Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha added: “This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power took ownership of Leicester City. But we are duty-bound to put the Club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be.
“Claudio has brought outstanding qualities to his office. His skilful management, powers of motivation and measured approach have been reflective of the rich experience we always knew he would bring to Leicester City. His warmth, charm and charisma have helped transform perceptions of the Club and develop its profile on a global scale. We will forever be grateful to him for what he has helped us to achieve.
“It was never our expectation that the extraordinary feats of last season should be replicated this season. Indeed, survival in the Premier League was our first and only target at the start of the campaign. But we are now faced with a fight to reach that objective and feel a change is necessary to maximise the opportunity presented by the final 13 games.”

Wenger not responsible for Arsenal's woes – Nasri
Former Arsenal midfielder, Samir Nasri has risen to the defence of his former boss, Arsene Wenger, who has come under fire from fans over the club’s recurring defeats. The French footballer opined that the players and the board are to blame for the team’s struggles this season and not the coach.
Nasri who joined Arsenal from Marseille in 2008, told Sky Sports, “You cannot criticise a guy like that, it’s impossible. Arsenal was a big club but he made it even bigger. I just think that people need to be fair. It’s not because Arsenal doesn’t have success in the league that it is his fault. It’s the players on the pitch, it’s the players who don’t get the result. It’s hard for me to say something about him because I owe him a lot of things.
He continued, “I came to the Premier League because of him, I had a good career because of him too because he gave me confidence. He made me a better player and I just think all the players who have played with him, when they left they became better players. I don’t think it’s him, there’s a lot of things at Arsenal, the board, the players that need to be checked out, not just Arsene.”

Brown Ideye has left Greece club Olympiacos and joined his fellow compatriot, Mikel Obi at Chinese club, Tianjin TEDA for a reported fee of €12m .

Neymar loses final appeal, to stand trial on corruption charges.
Neymar’s appeal over fraud charges regarding his transfer from Santos to Barcelona has been rejected by the Spanish court and he is set to stand trial on corruption charges. The Brazilian investment group DIS, the complainant claimed it was entitled to 40 percent of the transfer fee but received a smaller compensation because some part of the deal was shrouded in secrecy.
Prosecutors are therefore seeking a 2-year jail term, a €10m fine for the Brazilian and his father, a fine of about €9m from Barcelona and €7m from Santos. Both of them are unlikely to face any jail time if found guilty because they would be first-time offenders.

Gabriel Jesus ruled out for 3 months
Manchester United have been dealt a severe blow with their hitman, Gabriel Jesus ruled out of action for 3 months following an ankle injury. The 19 year-old forward suffered the injury on Monday night during their Premier League clash with Bournemouth and had to be replaced by Aguero who netted the second goal in the game. The Brazilian has however opted for surgery on his broken metatarsal.
