Alex Ferguson, Ryan Giggs named best manager&player in Premier League's 20-year history.

Manchester United legends, Sir Alex Ferguson and Ryan Giggs have been named the best manager and best player in the Premier League’s 20-year history. The received the homour at a ceremony held in central London few days ago. Ferguson’s award was picked on his behalf by the chief executive, David Gill picked up the award on his behalf.
Giggs who is the most decorated player in England made 909 appearances for the Red Devils, he beat the likes of Thierry Henry, Paul Scholes and Dennis Bergkamp to clinch the prize. vote from a panel of experts.
Ferguson on the other hand who won 12 Premier League trophies during his spell at the club edged out Arsène Wenger, José Mourinho, Harry Redknapp and David Moyes to scoop the prize.

Antonio Conte named London manager of the year.

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has been named London Manager of the year 2017.
The Italian fought off competition from Tottenham FC manager, Mauricio Pochettino and  Slavisa Jokanovic of Fulham, Millwall’s Neil Harris and AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley. The 47 year-old who is steadily steering Chelsea to another Premier League glory joined The Blues last summer after taking over from interim manager, Guus Hindink.

Torres discharged from the hospital following head injury

Fernando Torres has been released from hospital after suffering a head injury in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna on Thursday. The former Liverpool man clashed with Deportivo’s Alex Bergantinos in the 84th minute and hit his head on the ground. He was stretchered off into an ambulance shortly after. Spanish doctors have however confirmed that he is stable, conscious and talking this morning.

“A magnetic resonance done in the spine has corroborated that Fernando Torres has no alterations or traumatic injuries after the blow he suffered to the head in Riazor just as the CT scan done on the player had confirmed, Having spent the night under observation, Torres left the La Coruna hospital this morning. He will have to rest for the next 48 hours.” the club tweeted.

The ex Chelsea player allayed fears about his injury. “Everything is well. I want to thank everyone, the Atletico and Deportivo players for the reaction they had, the fans, the medical staff in the hospital that took great care of me. I remember everything before the collision. I recovered consciousness in the ambulance. Fortunately, it was just a care and I’m just counting the days to return to play. In a couple of days’ time I will be able to train with my teammates,” He said.

Luis Enrique to quit as Barcelona manager next season

After a 3-year spell at the club, Luis Enrique has announced he will not continue as manager of Barcelona FC next season. The Spaniard made the announcement in a press conference shortly after his side beat Sporting de Gijon 6-1 :
“I won’t be Barcelona coach next season. I need to rest. The way I do this job is why I have to leave. There are very few hours to rest. I would like to thank the Club. They have been three unforgettable years.” He said
Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said, “We accept the decision of  Luis Enrique. He has been a great coach. He has given us successes, but still can bring us more. The players are motivated to do it. We will try to announce Luis Enrique‘s successor on July 1 and focus on the trophies at hand for now.”
The former player joined the Blaugrana in the summer of 2014, following the exit of Gerardo Martino and has won 8 trophies at the club. He is the second manager in European history (after Guus Hiddink) to win a Treble and follow it with a Double.

Victor Moses commits to Chelsea

Chelsea wing-back, Victor Moses has signed a two-year contract extension with Chelsea, keeping him at the club until 2021. The Nigeria international who was  on loan in Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United, having joined Chelsea from Wigan in 2012 put pen to paper a new contract worth £75,000-a-week.
“I feel very excited,” said Moses.  “I’m delighted to be here for another few years now and to sign a new deal. Now it’s time to concentrate on the team and keep working hard to make sure we win games and try to win the Premier League this season.
“We’re having a great season, I’m enjoying my football and we have a good manager here that has given every single one of us confidence. I just want to keep on enjoying it and working hard for the team.”

Neymar and Messi may be barred from UK.

If Barcelona (by stroke of luck) turn around their 4-0 deficit in the second leg game against PSG and get through to the Champions League final, the  Spanish giants will be without the attacking duo of Lionel Messi and Neymar who might be denied entry into the UK due to their ongoing tax evasion cases.

UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin made the revelation in a recent interview with New York Times. He said the duo will not be allowed to play at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in June as a result of the Brexit issue. Once Britain leaves the European Union, people with existing legal issues could be banned from coming into the country, and Messi and Neymar fall into that category.
Recall that, PSG defender, Serge Aurier was denied entry into the UK for their game against Arsenal at the Emirates last November.

“Neymar and Lionel Messi both have procedures going on. This year, the Champions League final is in Cardiff. Imagine if they did not let them in. That is a big thing for us, if players from England can travel anywhere but players from other teams cannot travel to England. With free movement in Europe, it is much better.

Even in 2020, if ‘Brexit’ has happened, then it can be a big problem for fans. That stays firm, and we will speak to the British government, and I am sure the English Football Association will help us.” Aleksander Ceferin  revealed.

Mario Götze removed from all football related activities indefinitely

Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Mario Götze has been told to withdraw from all football related activities indefinitely by his club following diagnosis of ‘metabolic disturbances’.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Borussia Dortmund will continue to be without midfielder Mario Götze for the time being. The 24-year-old World Cup winner has continually suffered with muscular problems in the last few months, prompting a comprehensive internal investigation into the possible causes. Those investigations revealed the player has metabolic disturbances, rendering it absolutely necessary to withdraw him from team training for the time being.”
Speaking on his condition, Götze said: “I’m currently undergoing treatment and will do everything in my power to be back in training and helping my team to achieve our common goals as soon as possible.”

Leicester Move On Without Ranieri | By: Wale Adigun

Football is a very funny game indeed and last night at the King Power Stadium, we realised that once again. How do Leicester go from being winless in 2017, goal-less in 2017, (without a goal in 540 minutes in 2017) which even culminated in the sacking of the the best ever manager in Leicester City’s history Claudio Ranieri to scoring 3 goals in 60 minutes.
What we witnessed on Monday night was a retro-Leicester side, it was a throwback to last season where the Foxes destroyed everyone with their brand of football (play it long and Vardy chases like a dog) . We saw that yesterday again, with Jamie Vardy’s goal plus the verve and energy Leicester brought o the table against Liverpool.
But why did this happen after the Srivaddhanaprabba’s wielded the axe on Saint Ranieri? Did the players sabotage their former manager? Questions begging for answers but the most important answer on a personal level for me is that Leicester’s emphatic result against Liverpool has instantaneously vindicated the management’s decision to sack Claudio Ranieri.
Sometimes when a team is on a downward slide, a change of tack on the bench is needed, irrespective of the quality of manager. Craig Shakespeare won’t get the Leicester job long-term but the team will benefit from a change of ideas. Would Claudio Ranieri had won this game had he not been sacked? Hindsight is 20-20 but the Foxes have claimed their first major scalp since Manchester City late in 2016.
Whoever Leicester decide to take over fulltime still has a lot of work to do, Riyad Mahrez is still struggling, the defence line is aging and Leicester need dynamism tactically. Juergen Klopp obviously helped Jamie Vardy rediscover his groove by defending too high plus playing  helpless Lucas Leiva in central defence. There are positives though, Wifred Ndidi has shown he will be pivotal (more tackles than any player on the pitch) Kasper Schmeichel, dependable, Danny Drinkwater, gradually returning to form and the fans always supportive.
I insist that Leicester have too much quality to be relegated, they are out of the drop-zone but its still a long road to safety, they need to go an  positive streak to be rest assured and maybe Claudio Ranieri was right, the game against Sevilla in the Champions League was the needed tonic to change their fortunes, it was just a shame that he wasn’t the man to change their fortune this season.

Opinion: Leicester City And A Familiar Practice | By: Victor Olugbemiro

The sacking of Claudio Ranieri by the Leicester City Football Club management gives credence to the saying that “success has killed more men than bullets.” Reading all the back stories, it becomes clear that no one in the hierarchy could manage the pressures of success. Players wanting better contracts, egos becoming inflated, management beginning to micro manage (some board members started attended training sessions on some occasions) and the manager feeling the need to change a winning formula, possibly because of the departure of Kante.
Winning the league came with new and unanticipated expectations, not limited to competing in the revered Champions League. Now they became title contenders from the start of the season, now they became the team to beat. Now they’re players had started getting national call ups (e.g Danny Drinkwater). Everybody was now under pressure to do far more than avoid relegation which had been their only objective since their promotion to the EPL a few seasons ago.
Blackburn Rovers who won the league in ’95 were relegated two seasons later; got promoted and were relegated again and have since been wallowing in the Championship. I don’t know their back story, but Leicester seems headed in the same direction and sacking Ranieri appears to be the most rational decision under the circumstances.
Liverpool and Arsenal are clubs that haven’t won anything tangible in recent times, but I don’t see them crumbling when they eventually do. So what will be the difference?
Chelsea and Man City metamorphosed from mediocrity to winning and challenging for titles overnight and have remained serious contenders so far. So what is the difference? I think they anticipated success and were ready for it when it came. It therefore becomes dangerous for one to happen upon greatness.
For Leicester, the way forward is inward. They shouldn’t have sacked the manager, but that milk has been spilt already. They need to eat the humble pie once more and dispose of the debilitating trappings of overnight success. They need to listen to reason and become a team once more. They need to fight as one man and stop pointing accusing fingers. They need to take responsibility. Till then, down the hill they shall continue to tumble till they reach rock bottom.
