Barcelona send Luis Enrique off in style

Messi, Neymar and Alcacer all struck tonight as Barcelona defeat Alaves to win their 29th Copa del Rey trophy. It was Luis Enrique last game in charge of the Catalans and clinching the trophy was an awesome way to send him off in style. The Spaniard featured in 181 games , won 9 trophies in three seasons at the Nou Camp.

The 47 year-old has the best win ratio (76.24%) as Barcelona coach in the club’s history (10+ games). He is also the the first manager to win three consecutive Copa del Rey finals in 64 years. (2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017)

Arsenal beat Chelsea to win the FA Cup

Arsenal beat 10-man Chelsea today to secure their 13th FA cup. The thrilling game which ended 2-1 at the Wembley saw Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Per Mertesacker and  Chelsea’s Diego Costa get on the score sheet. Arsenal outclassed their opponents and Alexis Sanchez whose goal was ruled as handball was awarded Man of the Match for his performance. The Chilean has scored 30 Goals and 16 Assists in 50 Games. Arsenal have now won the FA Cup more times (13) than any other team in the competition’s history
 

Cristiano Ronaldo Accused Of Tax Evasion by Spanish Authorities

Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of tax fraud by Spanish authorities. The Portuguese could face 5 years in prison for tax fraud after failing to pay £13m from image rights to the Spanish Govt from 2011-2013.

According to Adriana Garcia of ESPN FC, Spanish prosecutors believe “the Portuguese may have committed wrongdoing” after they carried out an investigation. In December, leaked documents appeared to reveal that he hid 150 million euros in tax havens in Switzerland and the British Virgin Islands. If found guilty, he will likely go to prison. Sentence would be 4 months for each offense (2011,12,13)

Only few days ago, Spain’s Supreme Court upheld a 21-month jail term handed to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for tax fraud.

Manchester United become the most decorated English club in football history.


Two goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in each half saw Manchester United defeat Ajax Amsterdam to win Europa League final and qualify for the group stages of next season’s Champions League. With 43 trophies in their cabinet, the Red Devils have become the most decorated English club in football history.  The club have now won every possible trophy.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is the first Man United manager in history to win two major trophies in his first season in charge.“It’s the end of a very difficult season but a very very good season, we preferred this way to finishing 4th.” The Portuguese said.

Leo Messi sentenced to 21 months in prison

 
Lionel Messi and his dad, Jorge Messi have lost an appeal to Spain’s Supreme Court over a 21-month prison sentence for tax fraud. The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court confirmed the prison sentence for the Argentinean. Messi, who admitted to avoiding the payment of taxes derived from his image rights in 2007  was sentenced to seven months in prison for each of the three crimes and fined  532,313.31

Neither Messi or his father are likely to go to Prison as under Spanish law sentences under two years can be served under probation. Nevertheless, Messi’s sentence has been reduced to 15 months in jail and the sentence imposed on the Barca striker’s father,
Meanwhile, Barcelona FC released a statement expressing its support for Messi and his family.
“Following the Supreme Court’s decision in the Leo Messi case this afternoon, Club spokesman Josep Vives said: “The Club reiterates, once again, its full support for Leo Messi, his father Jorge Messi, and his family. This afternoon, FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu contacted the player’s family to communicate this support. The family was very grateful, not only for today’s gesture, but also for the support the player and his family have received from the Club throughout this process. The Club will continue to stand with Leo Messi, his father, and his family.”

Super Eagles and Leicester City star, Ahmed Musa wedded his new lover, Juliet Adeh Ejue yesterday in Abuja. His divorced wife, Jamila is reportedly back in Kano state with their two children.

Manchester Attack: Yaya Toure and his agent to donate £100,000 to victims

Manchester City star, Yaya Toure and his agent, Seluk have donated £50,000 each to those affected by the suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena on Monday night. The sad incident claimed 22 lives and left 119 injured. Amongst those who lost their lives was an 8 year-old girl who went to see her favourite musician but died in the blast.

Seluk told Sky Sports News: ‘The news an eight-year-old girl went to see her favourite singer and didn’t return home is too much to bear. My son is eight years old and I can’t image the pain and the suffering that the parents of Saffie will be going through today.

‘Yaya and I want to help. We talked this morning about what happened and he asked me what he thought we could do.

‘We have agreed to donate £50,000 each to help the victims of this terrible crime. It doesn’t matter whether the victims are from Manchester or not.

‘Yaya is from Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), I am Russian. It doesn’t matter. Today is a chance for those of us in football to help out.’

Toure, along with a host of other football stars from both United and City, tweeted: ‘Such terrible news in Manchester. Thoughts and prayers with those affected.’

Antonio Conte named LMA and Premier League Manager of the Year for 2016/17.

For steering Chelsea to their 6th Premier League victory in his first season in charge, Chelsea coach, Antonio Conte has been named Premier League manager of the year by the League Managers Association. The honour was bestowed on him at their 25th annual awards dinner.
The Italian who succeeded Jose Mourinho last summer joined the club after helming Italy’s Euro 2016 campaign, Conte transformed the Blues from 10th to first, overseeing 30 wins, three draws and five defeats.

The English footballer has had a very eventful season, featuring in 30 games: 30, netting 29 times, scoring 5 hat-tricks. He became the 5th player to scoop the prize in back-to-back Premier League seasons. Only two players have scored four or more hat-tricks in a Premier League season: Alan Shearer  who scored 5 in 1995/96 and Harry Kane (4 in 2016/17). He is  also the first back to back PL golden boot winner playing for same club since Thierry Henry (03-04, 04-05 & 05-06)

Chelsea become the first club to win 30 matches in a single Premier League season

Chelsea FC have set record for number of Premier League wins in a season. The English club scored 38 goals, garnered 98 points to win the 206/2017 Premier League victory. The Antonio Conte-led club used all three subs in every Premier league match this season (114 in total) – only the 2nd team to do this in a 38-match campaign.
The Blues sealed their victory today after a 5-1 rout of Sunderland on Sunday. Only the club (457 minutes) were in a losing position in Premier League matches for less time than Liverpool FC (471 mins) this season.
