Barack Obama appoints 34 year-old Nigerian as National Security Adviser.

Adewale Adeyemo;  a 34 year-old Nigerian has been appointed US President,  Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs.

Adeyemo who served in Obama’s administration since 2009 is succeeding Caroline Atkinson. He joined the White House’s National Economic Council as deputy director and was Treasury’s lead negotiator on the currency agreement that was part of the Pacific trade deal.

“For the past four years, I have relied on Caroline Atkinson, most recently as my Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics, as we’ve navigated pressing challenges to the global economy.

“As my representative at the G-7 and G-20, she played a key role in coordinating our response to international financial crises, worked with our allies to devise and implement targeted economic sanctions to advance our national security goals, played a vital role in our economic engagements with China, and helped to achieve breakthrough agreements on climate that will strengthen our economy and our security.

“I’ve relied on, and benefited from, Caroline’s knowledge and judgment and, as she concludes” A statement by Obama reads.

Photos: This is how the tallest skyscrapper in London will look like after completion

Plans for the 1 Undershaft,
the tallest skyscraper in the City of London have been unveiled. Designed by Architect
Eric Parry, the building will rise 309.6m in the heart of the city’s financial
district, between the Cheesegrater and the Gherkin.
. “It is the last piece
in the jigsaw. At the higher level of buildings, this is really the endgame, I
don’t think there’s more coming on this scale.” Says Parry.
The building will contain 73 and will accommodate 10,000 people, 1,500
bicycle spaces.
The top of the tower will have a restaurant and a viewing gallery,
promised to be open to all for free.

A planning application will be submitted in January 2016

US-based Nigerian bus driver honoured for saving 30 kids.

Samuel Agunbiade, a US-based bus driver has been honoured by the board of Spring Branch Independent School District, Houston for keeping 30 kids of the school safe from a fire outbreak which occured last Friday. 
On hearing a loud pop and seeing smoke coming from the bus’s tailpipe, Agunbiade who has been a bus driver for 21 years, swiftly pulled off and was filmed getting the students off the bus unharmed. The vehicle caught fire and exploded minutes later.
“They’re calling me a hero. I said hero? I just did what I was supposed to do. You guys are mine. I’m supposed to take care of you.”. He said.

 Our young ones are pushing the envelope and getting a spot in history books. A 25 year-old lady, Jasmine Twitty has been officially appointed as the youngest judge in the history of Easley, South Carolina, USA.
A graduate of the College of Charleston, Jasmine is also a member of the Upstate Network Young Professionals Board which promotes the development of young professionals.

Bill Gate's wife pictured washing plates and fetching water in Malawi

 

You see some stories at times and you’re lost for words. Melinda Gates, the wife of the richest man in the world, Bill Gates shocked the whole world when she joined women to fetch water and wash the dishes during her visit in Malawi. 

“Helping wash the dishes during my homestay in Malawi. Women spend much of the day cooking and then cleaning up. It’s a reminder that it’s a lot more time consuming to do dishes when you can’t just turn on a faucet”. She wrote.

Now I hope some high-society women with heavy ‘shoulder pads’ will take cues from this. Once upon a time in Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos I watched a very rich woman ask her driver to double cross a motorcyclist. His offence, he splashed dirty water on her car. The driver handed him a handkerchief to clean the spot. I saw the scenario and shook my head. It wasn’t even mud, yes it had a little dirt but it was uncalled for.

Japan is considering installing toilets in lifts

Japan is considering installing toilets and drinking fountains in their lifts. Hope the two won’t stay close. According to Metro UK, due to the country’s frequent earthquakes citizens often become trapped in lifts for hours, and sometime even days, at a time.
On Saturday Japan was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which left thousands stuck in lifts without water or toilet facilities. Obviously some lifts will be far too small to install such facilities, in which case collapsible cardboard structures with adsorbent paper bags would reportedly be used instead.
Officials from the infrastructure ministry and the Association of Elevator Markers will be meeting soon to discuss the proposals.

Teenage sprinter becomes the fastest British woman in history.

A 19 year-old teenage sprinter, Dina Asher-Smith yesterday became the fastest British woman in history after setting a British 100m record of 11.02 seconds at the World Challenge Meeting in the Netherlands.
The Londoner disclosed that she was initially disappointed in herself because she thought her efforts were poor.‎
‎

“I wasn’t completely happy with it because my start was only alright and at the end I felt like I tightened up and lost my form. ‎So at first I was a bit annoyed. I looked at Dafne’s time and I thought it was amazing but I didn’t think I was anywhere near her so I’d wasted the opportunity.

“But then my time flashed up and I was absolutely over the moon. I really wasn’t expecting to run that time with the kind of race that I ran. So I was really, really happy. I’ve got a few things to work on so I think that points to me being able to replicate and do a bit better later in the season.”She said.
