NOLLYWOOD VILLAGE TO MARK 20TH ANNIVERSARY

President, Association of Movie Producers, Zik Okafor while speaking to some select journalists on Tuesday, 16th July, 2013 revealed that plans to build a befitting film village for the Nigerian Movie Industry are underway.

The construction of the Nollywood village is part of the activities slated to mark the industry's 2 decades of existence. The location of the village would be announced during the anniversary.

"We want to set up the Nollywood house, build a magnificent edifice with the inscription `Nollywood' on it as they have in other climes, so that when anybody comes to Nigeria, there is a place they can go and say this is Nollywood village and can get what they want in one place."

"We have been operating from our homes, so we should have a base where we can be located, we want a place that can contain television actors, different guild associations, creative designers and so many others in the same environment.

He also disclosed that a Nollywood Foundation will also be set up. "We can't keep on running to government for everything, even when the older ones are sick or any one of us; we have to do a lot by ourselves, but if help comes, no problem. The foundation will still be in the same village, so that coordination would be easier."

Ailing Barcelona coach,Tito Vilanova has resigned as coach of the spanish club.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Camp Nou this evening.

Apparently pressurised from different quarters, the popular actress broke her silence on the issue yesterday. In an SMS message she sent to a Nation newspaper writer, the Vitafoam ambassador wrote,

"My marriage is intact. I read in the newspaper yesterday that I am divorced. What proof do you have? And I am taking this to court because my marriage is intact. You guys are rumour mongers. Funke Akindele Oloyede."

CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE'S AMERICANAH WINS 2013 CHICAGO TRIBUNE HEARTLAND PRIZE

She's still upping the ante! 36 year-old Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has added another prestigious award to her shelf.

Her third novel, AMERICANAH has just won the 2013 Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for fiction. Created in 1988 by the Chicago Tribune Newspaper, the annual prize is awarded to fiction and non-fiction books that reinforce and perpetuate the values of heartland America.

Speaking shortly on the winner, Elizabeth Taylor, Literary Editor, The Chicago Tribune revealed, "We loved AMERICANAH. It's a powerful, resonant novel and we would be delighted to celebrate it and try to share it with a wider audience."

"I'm very pleased. You never know what will happen when you write a novel. And for me, a Nigerian, to have written this book which is partly about America, and to receive this quintessentially American prize means that I have said something about America as seen through Nigerian eyes that Americans find interesting. I take that as a wonderful compliment. It reminds me of the ability of literature to make us become briefly alive in bodies not our own." The elated writer reacted to the honour.
