Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo is basking in the euphoria of fatherhood at the moment.
The seasoned and and his wife, Ifeoma are now parents after 9 years of marriage. The bundle of joy, a baby boy was delivered at The University of Maryland, St. Joseph Medical Center, USA on the 6th of May, 2016.

Contrary to the widespread rumor trending on the social media where Rashidi Yekini’s mother Sikiratu Yekini is seen looking like an impoverished woman hawking bread for survival, I have to come out strongly to condemn in strong terms the malicious attempt by the uninformed sets of people who are set to tarnish the good image of late Rashidi Yekini as a prodigal son who never took care of his family especially his mother.
A picture of the 4 flats of 3 bedrooms each with 4 Boys Quarters of 2 rooms each built at the back of the building which was built by Yekini for his mother before he died. Yekini`s mother had always been a petty trader even when her son was alive.
“This background building of Yekini`s mother picture trending online is actually a garage in the 4 flats built by my late client in Ijagbo few kilometer to Offa and about 9 kilometers away from his village, Ira. Even before the demise of Rashidi, the woman had always been in charge of the rent of the building which runs into to several hundreds of thousands of naira without Rashidi interfering.
The Boy`s quarters at the back of the main building as at 2006 was around N48,000.00 each, while each 3 bedroom flat in the main building goes for about N80,000.00 each or more which brought her annual income from rent of the building to about half a million naira despite the fact that Rashidi was always sending pocket money to her and her siblings. Apart from this, Rashidi made sure he empowered his entire sibling by opening one of the best hairdressing saloons for his late sister, late Rofiat, who also died in 2014.
Yekini’s mother sells bread to survive in Ira township, Kwara state. Akeem (his younger brother) was not left out of Rashidi`s generosity as he bought 18 seater bus for him among many things I do not want to mention. I wonder where did the writer got the impression that Rashidi ever neglected his mother.
Even after the death of Rashidi, nobody, not even his two daughters have ever interfered on who takes the rent. Not even the ex-wives, on behalf of their respective daughters ever query the mother about the income from the building. I wonder how she is now starving. Two of her children are dead (Rashidi and Rofiat) leaving only Ismaila and Akeem. Ismaila is based in Kaduna with his family. While Hakeem is the only person living with her with his wife. How is she starving? Can an old woman exhaust over half a million on feeding alone in a year?
I am not against any further assistance by any well meaning Nigerian to her, but I owe my late client the duty to set the record straight and because of the negative reactions on social media especially through SaharaReporters, which portray Rashidi as an irresponsible son, who never cared about his family. I am seriously upset about the impression being created by the people who have read the unfortunate story. The gospel and the uncontroverted truth is that Rashidi made adequate provision for his mother. The questions that we should be asking is how are his two daughters faring and who is responsible for their education and upkeep.
My advice on this is to ask Sahara Reporters to investigate before we jump into conclusion.

Opinion: Tiwa Savage and Omawunmi Interviews are Perfect Examples of How Not to Conduct an Interview

The last two weeks have been terrible for journalism in Nigeria. Yes, I know what you are thinking: “Was there ever a time that was good for journalism in Nigeria?” Well, it wouldn’t do to go into what many say was the golden decades of Nigerian journalism, that time before the Millennium when excellence was the mantra of many a pen pusher. These days, as any truth speaker knows, journalism can comfortably be said to dwell in the gutters around here.
See ehn, there is no point playing the ostrich. I’ve been a journalist for seven years and a handful of moons. Let’s tell the truth, most of what we call journalism around here are unmitigated trash. In the last two weeks particularly, we have been treated to embarrassing displays by journalists who have come to embody the dearth of professionalism in the sector.
First, it was Azuka Ogujiuba making a complete dog’s meal of the interview with Tiwa Savage. The interviewer was so devoid of passion that you wouldn’t be blamed if you made the mistake of thinking Tiwa was talking to a life-size doll. I’m one of those who believes so much more could have obtained from that interview if it had been expertly handled.
Some say the interview was stage managed; a PR masterclass, and this would explain why Azuka was that passive. I cannot confirm this, but even if it were true, the affair though bleak, wasn’t a funeral, was it?
Azuka’s performance is also a lesson in knowing your limits. No matter how hard you try, you cannot possibly do everything. Azuka is perhaps one of the most influential entertainment journalists around but she is a trained print journalist. She is not a broadcaster. Even if she had helped to facilitate the interview, there is no rule that says she must be the one to conduct it. Pulse, who ran the interview, has a crop of excellent onscreen journalists. Azuka should have allowed one of them to handle the interviewer. It would not take anything from her, really. And if she wanted it, she could be given credit as the facilitator.
While we were still dissecting the disaster that Azuka’s performance was, I woke up yesterday morning to yet another terrible performance from another journalist. It was the interview of singer Omawunmi on the programme, “Da Chat” by Zinnia. The interview was so disastrous I felt moved to scratch out the interviewer’s fake accent through my computer screen.
The interviewer, Zinnia, probably woke up on the morning of the interview, painted her lips, applied eyeliner, did her hair, practised her fake accent, but forgot to enrich her brain.

From the moment she opened her mouth, one just knew she did not do any research before walking into the studio.
How could a journalist get the opportunity to interview an A-lister and the first real question she could muster was one about the paternity of the artiste’s child. To say I was shocked would be euphemistic. Questions in my mind included: Are Ogbanjes doing meeting in your head? Did you chew a fat stem of Osun igbo before the interview?
Yet Omawunmi though obviously pissed off by her line of questioning controlled her emotions nicely and responded in a charitable manner but not before clearly warning her that she would not tolerate that manner of questioning. But this interviewer was deaf to gentle rebuke.
The interview suddenly had the trappings of an inquisition. There were no real questions about her career, what she was doing at the moment etc. instead she proceeded to ask her why she has not had collaborations with artistes from around the continent – a question that actually exposed her as a proper Olodo, because as Omawunmi pointed out, she has had a recent collaboration with two of the biggest names in African entertainment, The multiple Grammy award winning performer, Angelique Kidjo, and Selif Keita.
Of course, our interviewer didn’t know about this. Because she never bothered to do the most basic of research before the interview. It became clear that all she wanted was to scandalise the singer when she continued with her vexatious probing.
She went on to set a trap for her guest Omawunmi, by first asking her if she believed she should be a role model to young people. When apparently she didn’t get the response she was expecting, she moved in with the most demeaning thing I’ve heard on TV recently by trying to tie the singer’s alleged drinking and smoking habit to her ability(or inability) to be a good mother!
Of course, the singer gave her a piece of her mind and a thorough dressing down before walking out on her.
We could tell that she never expected the clap back from the artiste because hard as she tried to hide her embarrassment with her faux accent and plastic smile, one could see that she was dying inside.

You are the host of an entertainment show, not an investigative programme, digging into the misconduct of public officials or crooked businessmen. You should fashion your questions to reflect that. She is a private citizen, and you have no right to dig into her privacy more than she allowed you; on national TV.
Besides, what kind of journalist bases her entire interview on rumours?
What Zinnia has done is effectively sabotage her own show. Now tell me which self-loving artiste or entertainer will agree to come to her show after that debacle. Asking silly questions has never made any journalist a star, instead asking well-researched questions in line with the theme of your programme make you appear more professional and eventually successful.

Amaechi and the Truth About Sanusi's Letter to Dr Jonathan
The office of the Minister of Transport said their attention has been drawn to reports in the media that tends to infer and/or suggest that immediate past governor of Rivers State and now Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi surreptitiously and clandestinely ‘leaked’ a letter written by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor and now Emir of Kano, Sanusi Muhammad 11 to then President Goodluck Jonathan on the non-remittance of $49.8 billion from oil sale to the federation account.
It noted that “this is further from the truth and what exactly transpired as regards Amaechi’s involvement in that Sanusi letter.”
A press statement from the office of the Minister of Transport reads:
“To put the records straight, we want to categorically state that: A concerned and patriotic Nigerian who felt sufficiently troubled with what was happening then, gave a copy of the Sanusi letter to Amaechi in Amaechi’s capacity as the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF). Like Amaechi, we should appreciate that concerned Nigerian’s patriotism.
“When Amaechi got the letter, he spoke with Sanusi who was still the CBN governor to confirm the authenticity of the letter. Sanusi confirmed to Amaechi that he wrote the letter. During their conversation, Amaechi made it abundantly clear to the then CBN governor that the bleeding of the nation had to be stopped, all non-remitted funds remitted and that he (Amaechi) was going to use the letter to do whatever is in the best interest of the nation and Nigerians, which was the stoppage of the non-remittance and the recovery of all the non-remitted funds from oil sale. The CBN Governor didn’t agree with Amaechi on the way forward.

“Considering that the letter was given to Amaechi as Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, he shared the letter with his colleague governors first, and with Senator Bukola Saraki (now Senate President), who before and around that period was doing some work or/and investigation around the oil sector in the senate.
“Around that period, a delegation from the United States of America government, from the offices of the Secretaries of State and Defense visited Amaechi in Port Harcourt to discuss the issue of oil theft in Nigeria. From their records, they gave Amaechi figures of billions of dollars (about $7 billion dollars, annually) that was being lost to oil theft in Nigeria. They were discussing the issue and figures of oil theft, and that was how the CBN governor’s letter to President Jonathan came up. In the presence of journalists covering the visit, Amaechi brought out the Sanusi letter to the visiting American delegation to buttress the point that Nigeria was losing far more money to non-remittance of proceeds from oil sale into the federation account, which everyone seemed to concur, was in itself, another form and another dimension to the issue of oil theft.
“To suggest, infer or even extrapolate that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi surreptitiously, clandestinely or underhandedly ‘leaked’ the CBN governor’s (Sanusi’s) letter is indeed most unfair, disrespectful and uncharitable to his person. Amaechi did what he did because he believed that the theft and corruption was just too much. He was propelled by his patriotic zeal to put Nigeria first, do what is in the best interest of the nation and Nigerians, and stop the bleeding and sucking of our collective resources by a tiny few. The mindboggling corruption revelations in the recent past, that is still ongoing clearly justifies and vindicates Amaechi’s stance on the issue and the actions he took. Faced with the same situation, under similar circumstances, Amaechi will not act differently. The good of Nigeria, putting the nation and Nigerians first, will always be his guiding principle.”
