OPRAH WINFREY ON TURNING 60 + BIRTHDAY PICTURES

The American television host, actress and producer expectedly got loads and loads of gifts on January 29- her birthday. One of such is a sequined portrait from her friend and talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres. Meanwhile here’s what the philanthropist wrote on her website few days before she turned 60. “Even in my darkest moments—through sexual abuse, a pregnancy at 14, lies and betrayals”. She recounted her teenagehood experience.
Excerpts!!!

“Sixty. I’m turning 60 this month! I’m so glad I’ve lived long enough to say those words and celebrate their meaning.
I’m turning 60. I’m alive. Healthy. Strong.
I’m turning 60, and—please don’t take offense—I no longer have to be concerned about what anyone thinks of me! (You know, the old Am I doing it right? Am I saying it right? Am I being what or who I’m “supposed” to be?)
I’m turning 60, and I’ve earned the right to be just as I am. I’m more secure in being myself than I’ve ever been. I have reached the moment Derek Walcott describes in his beautiful poem “Love After Love”: “…with elation / you will greet yourself arriving / at your own
door, in your own mirror / and each will smile at the other’s welcome.”
I am in awe of the way my journey here on earth continues to unfold. My life has been marked by miracles for as long as I can recall—and even before. (My entire existence is the result of a onetime frolic
under an oak tree.) My early days speaking in a Mississippi Methodist church—Baptist leanings, shoutin’, and Holy Ghost included—prepared me for a future of speaking in a public arena I could never have imagined.
And now, at 60, I simply want to share what I’ve been given. I want to continue to encourage as many people as I can to open their hearts to life, because if I know anything for sure, it’s that opening my own heart is what has brought me my greatest success and joy.
My highest achievement: never shutting my heart down. Even in my darkest moments—through sexual abuse, a pregnancy at 14, lies and betrayals—I remained faithful, hopeful, and open to seeing the best in people, regardless of whether they were showing me their worst. I stayed open to believing that no matter how hard the climb, there is always a way to let in a sliver of light to illuminate the path forward.
We go through life discovering the truth about who we are and determining who has earned the right to share the personal space within our heart.”

It is interesting to know that these two grown men are actually Shan George’s sons. One of them, Jagaceo Otsemobor, is a hip-hop artiste (wrote about the singer few years back). I actually thought she has 1 child. Delnoi, 27 and Jaga, 25 graduated from University of East

CHAN 2014 SEMI-FINAL: END OF THE ROAD FOR NIGERIA

It was a tension-soaked moment. Nigeria has bowed out of the CHAN 2014 competition. They lost out to Ghana at the Semi final stage. Both team couldn't produce a goal after 120 mins and had to resort to penalty shoot-outs. Ghana slipped all their shots in successfull , Ejike Uzoenyi, the most significant player in the team made a good account of himself before the goal-keeper, other Nigerian players' shots travelled in different directions. (Pardon my writing style, I'm a little bit distraught.)

Up Nigeria! You remain a winner to us! Congratulations Ghana!!!

THROWBACK PHOTO: PETE EDOCHIE

So Pete Edochie’s signature beard has come a long way! Really interesting!!! They grew thicker and denser with age. The story of the Nigerian movie industry would be incomplete without ample space given to veterans like him. I miss the stern-looking actor, his strong, powerful voice, the way his eyes twitch before he breaks into adages/proverbs.

HILARIOUS! CHINESE STUDENTS SHOW US A WONDERFUL STUDYING TECHNIQUE

Do you find yourself sleeping off few minutes after you open a book? This Chinese students' studying technique is just the best option you've been waiting for. If you're a lady, fix a brazilian hair or one of those long hair brands, if you're a guy, do the same, get a wig or scarf.lol

To stop themselves from nodding off while studying, these Chinese university students resorted to tying up their hair with cloth pegs , so anytime they try to nod off, the pegs would pull their hair.

The technique was carried out by two students, Chen and Huang, who were determined to succeed but had problems staying awake.

"Chen is so keen to succeed that she decided to give the hair trick a try, as you can see her hair is more than long enough. As we didn't have a beam in our dorm, she used the clothes dryer and claims it worked really well. The preparation is boring, but the hanging hair practice makes it interesting and I really feel much more energetic by studying this way". Huang explained.
