2014 World Cup: President Goodluck donates N50m to Nigerian Supporters Club.

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has announced a donation of N50m to members of the Nigerian Supporters’ club even as the Super Eagles prepare for the forthcoming World Cup tournament. He also promised his unfettered support to sports men and women in all international football competitions.
Speaking after being made the Grand Patron of the Club, he urged the Nigerian football supporters club not to relent in it’s very important role in cheering athletes and sports men to victory adding that every Nigerian should be a member of this supporters club.
“The federal government and indeed all Nigerians appreciate and we need to encourage you to go to Brazil. The federal Government is going to give you a token but I will personally consult with the senior boys to add something to that. The federal government is going to start it with the sum of N50 million. But I am hopeful that by the time I will talk to
some of our senior boys, I think the money may even double
” he stated.
The tournament is scheduled to hold in Brazil from Thursday, 12 June 2014 to Sunday, 13 July 2014. Nigeria will face Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F of the preliminary round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Photos: What are Genevieve and Mikel Obi up to?

Pictures of A-list actress, Genevieve Nnaji and Chelsea/Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi heading into a private jet in South Africa have set tongues wagging. Well, going by the setting, the customized plate numbers and all, this is beyond a mere hangout; more like a TV commercial or the set of a high-budget film.

Cesc Fabregas hits back at Jose Mourinho

This should be my 4th post on Mourinho this week. He really has been snaking into football headlines for the past one week. Shortly after Manchester City and Barcelona UCL clash, Mourinho had told ITV reporters the present Barcelona squad is the worst in many years.
Of course by history Barcelona is the favourite, but this Barcelona, this season, is showing that it is not the same as in previous years. Of course, they have Lionel Messi – he is special – and they have more than him. But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many, many years.”
Mourinho claimed.
After the Catalans beat City 2-0, Spanish international midfielder, Cesc Fabregas took a cheeky jibe at the self-acclaimed Special One. And of course, we don’t need a seer to tell us he was referring to the Portuguese coach.
” We had a great result tonight. The fans put so much pressure on and that’s what makes this so win special. We had a point to prove, and we did it very well. Some people were talking a bit too much before the game and now they have to shut up for a few days. You never know in football, but in three weeks we will have to play very, very well.”
Waiting for Mourinho’s robust reply.

How Cultists brutally murdered Bowen University undergraduate for being too proud

When 17-year-old Opeyemi Odusanya woke up the morning of February 3, 2014 little did she know death was lurking somewhere. The 300-level Biochemistry undergraduate was brutally murdered at her parents’ house in the Alakuko area of Lagos by some cult members for being too proud and rejecting sexual advances.
A police officer who craved anonymity narrated the incident, “In the afternoon of February 3, 2014, the deceased went to buy airtime for her telephone. As she was returning, a group of cult members trailed and entered the house with her. Opeyemi was alone at home when the guys entered. They instructed her to turn on the generator so that if she screamed, no one would hear. “We believe that they wanted to rape the girl, but she must have put up a fierce struggle as the whole house was scattered. The guys subsequently stabbed her in the stomach several times and ripped out her intestines. After killing her, they took her phone and the keys to her parents’ vehicle, a jeep, which was on the table. They stole the jeep, which was parked in the compound, after killing the girl.”

Sources told PUNCH correspondent that after the guys had fled, they used Opeyemi’s telephone line to send a text message to her mother, explaining why they killed the 17-year-old.

“Your child has been proud. We have been toasting her, but she has refused to accept. We have killed her to teach a lesson. We have also driven your car away. If you want your car back, come to Lakas Hotel or Cele Bus Stop around Mile 2 to pick it up. If we see policemen around, we will kill everybody.”

Olayinka’s mother had a panic attack after reading the message and quickly informed those that were with her. However, a phone call from the family’s housemaid was said to have confirmed Olayinka’s fears that the text message was not a bluff. She returned to the house to meet the lifeless body of her child. Her mother who is a senior official at the Mushin Local Government secretariat, later reported the incident at the Alakuko Police Division. The murder weapon had been recovered. “By all indications, the girl was not raped because her clothes were intact. The knife used in killing her has been recovered,” the policeman revealed.

It was gathered that the parents of the girl had relocated to the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Tributes are still pouring in on Olayinka’s Facebook page.

Very sad!!! May her soul find repose. Amen

David Beckham wants Cristiano Ronaldo in MLS team

Speculation is rife that Real Madrid forward and world best footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo could join David Beckham’s MLS team. You would recall that the former LA Galaxy player while announcing the berth of his football club franchise few weeks had stressed the importance of having big names in the team to get people to watch the games and sustain attention.
Becks understands the need for a big, big name in the team when it gets going. And none come bigger than Ronaldo — the world’s greatest player. Ronaldo loves America and all that it offers. It’s not a secret he has thought about finishing his career here, about living here — so a deal like this could be perfect for him. It is a long way off yet — we’re talking 2017 — but it clearly demonstrates the ambition of the Beckham franchise.” An MLS source hinted reporters.

Opinion: Dear Omotola, don't blame the media for calling your daughter sexy

This article, written by Osagie Alonge of http://thenet.ng is a response to Omotola’s memo to bloggers who tagged her daughter’s birthday pictures sexy and hot.

‘We may not be able to prepare the future for our children, but we can at least prepare our children for the future’ – Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Last week, Omotola Jalade-Ekiende went on a rant on social media in response to entertainment bloggers who described her daughter Meraiah Ekeinde as ‘Hot and sexy’. The Nollywood actress and 2013 Time Magazine Icon barked at online media, chastising them for visiting her 14-year-old daughter’s Instagram page, culling her photos and spreading them all over the internet.
‘Thank you to everyone who wished Meraiah a happy birthday. However, going to a 14 year old’s ‘private’ online accts to post her pictures for public viewing is totally inappropriate. Her father and I are horrified as parents and guardian that a minor’s picture can be paraded online as ‘hot’ ,’sexy’ etc.’, she wrote on her official Facebook page.
It should be noted that as at the time Meraiah’s photos were posted by bloggers, her Instagram account was set on ‘public’. Dear Omotola, I’d like to say that the media has done nothing, absolutely nothing wrong and do not owe you an apology for publicising your daughter’s photos. You should be the last person pointing fingers as it clearly shows you’ve scored a D minus in raising this cute kid..
Meraiah Ekeinde is four years away from adolescence but by merely studying her Instagram page, you’d be amazed at the kind of photos a 14-year-old girl puts up – we are talking sexualised seflies, showing off her ‘curves’, pouts, using hashtags like #StaySexy and posting memes containing vulgar language like the word ‘FUCK’.
I’m sure Meraiah means no harm and she is in the early stage of youthful exuberance but dear Omotola, do you approve of an underage turning up her sexiness in the eye of the public? Why hasn’t she been cautioned to take down these sexually suggestive photos? Why is it that you have failed to understand that Meraiah, a minor, has no business trying to act like your fellow desperate Nollywood actresses on social media? Instead, you choose to be horrified by the media calling her ‘Hot and sexy’, accusing them of intruding on you poor little girl’s privacy. Madam, you’ve got it all wrong. Are those photos ‘Hot and sexy’? Oh my, yes they damn are! It’s a shame that up till now, these photos haven’t been deleted. It’s a shame that you’ve asked the media to behave like adults and draw the line when you’ve not acted in the same faith.
In February 2012, US rapper Nas’ 18-year-old daughter Destiny Jones posted a box of condoms on her Instagram page. The media and community attacked Nas and his baby mama Carmen Bryan for the post which was subsequently taken off. Nas didn’t come out defending his daughter or attacking the media, he rather blamed himself on his song ‘Daughters’.
Dear Omotola, you always profess the idea of changing the world, it’s time to start from your house; clean it up.

2face debunks infidelity claims

Yesterday, a soft sell magazine, ‘Icon Weekly’ reported that music super-star, 2face Idibia is expecting his 8th child from a certain Lagos-based banker called Teniola. Excerpts from the story, “We gathered that Teniola, who hails from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been 2Face’s account officer for a long time now. Teniola, a graduate of University of Lagos might just be another victim of the pressures marketers in the banking sector face to lure customers with everything they have….The interesting part of the story is that 2Baba, as he’s fondly called, allegedly wants the pregnancy terminated! Our source revealed to us that he has been begging Teniola with a brand new car to get rid of the pregnancy and keep this scandal out of media radar.”
However, the multiple award-winning singer has taken to his twitter page to debunk the rumour. “@AfricanCelebSpy BE CAREFUL! Stop spreading lies. Everybody make una see fake blog @AfricanCelebSpy with fake news trying 2 soil my reputation. GOD go judge una. The whole world knows I’m an open book. If anything happen na me go first tell una. Ok make I give dem news, I don give 8 virgins belle. How about that. Infact I wan create one local government I just dey start.”
