Hilarious moments at The Headies 2014 | By: Lanre Odukoya

Nigeria’s most prestigious music award ceremony, The Headies held last Sunday amid fanfare. It left us some hilarious memories and here are the characters that made the soiree a really riveting one.

TOKE MAKINWA
On-air-personality Toke Makinwa and comedian Bovi Ugboma were supposed to anchor the show together, but for whatever reason, Bovi was absent. So, Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth stood in for him for a while. At some intervals, Toke Makinwa was left to engage the massive audience alone.
The task was so overwhelming that your darling V-logger was caught gasping for breath. She changed her outfits five times before the show ended. And the most disastrous for her was a moment when she stepped on stage in a jumpsuit that made her look almost like a clown. Whatever she had underneath looked so much like a diaper on an adult.
The audience couldn’t hold back the laughter provoked by her look, but the unsuspecting lady thought she was getting a sincere cheer. She was the wrong person for the job apparently.

BETWEEN SALAWA ABENI AND VICTOR UWAIFO
It might interest you to know that Waka queen, Salawa Abeni and Pa Victor Uwaifo made it to the award ceremony that would ordinarily look like one for today’s artistes. Abeni had spotted Uwaifo and made to exchange pleasantries with the septuagenarian.
For a few seconds, Uwaifo struggled to recognise Abeni until the latter repeatedly mentioned her name and perhaps, her former husband’s, Kollington Ayinla. How time flies.

KCEE
Singer, KCee’s Limpopo won the Song of the Year category. He came on stage to celebrate that victory with a live band to perform the song, Pull Over on stage.
With super theatrics, he charmed all especially with Saka and other comic dancers performing live, but he flawed the outing with his voice that sounded off beat throughout the performance. You’d almost be forced to ask, “did this guy rehearse at all?”

K1 AND PASUMA
Fuji musicians, K1 the Ultimate and Pasuma Wonder are in a lingering feud. Though, they appear to be keeping their cool, there are indications that highlight the existence of some rancour. They were both guests at the award ceremony.
Pasuma was on stage to present an award, as if it was intended to prove a point, the camera zoomed in on K1 where he was seated and the acclaimed King of Fuji wore a look that screamed rage. The fight isn’t over yet, obviously.

AYIRI EMAMI
Ayiri Emami, the Warri billionaire graced the show. As he walked past, he was asked by a curious team of journalists if
he was going to give Tayo Faniran (the Nigerian representative at the recent Big Brother Africa) $350,000 as has been
widely circulated. “I don talk am” was all he said as he walked past without responding to other questions

"I feel cheated!" Santos fan sues Neymar for joining Barcelona

Funny things happen in football! A heartbroken Santos fan has decided to sue Brazilian football star, Neymar Jnr for dumping his club for Barcelona.
Luciano Pereira Caparroz, a Brazilian lawyer filed the lawsuit against Neymar and N&N in a Sao Paulo courthouse a week ago for a total of €8,400 for moral and material damages.
He further explained that the amount was to cover the costs of his journey to Japan to support the team having spent the sum of €3,200 to attend the Club World Cup and watch Neymar and the rest of his team members play against Barcelona.
He was shocked to his wits later when he found out that his favourite player had signed a pre-contract to join Barcelona prior to their 2011 Club World Cup final in Japan.
“I’m a Santista, I go to all the games and I decided to travel to Japan to watch the Club World Cup.  I was left frustrated with the result and on top of that, later on we learned that Neymar was already sold.  I feel cheated.”

CNN’s ‘Inside Africa’ features prize-winning Nigerian photographers and artists from Lagos Photo Festival

This week on CNN International’s ‘Inside Africa’ programme, host Soni Methu offers viewers the chance to meet some prize-winning Nigerian photographers and artists at the Lagos Photo Festival.
In Makoko, the water-borne slum in Lagos dubbed “the Venice of Africa”, Methu discovers that although life in the community may be quite basic, it nevertheless inspires some great art from outsiders and its own.
One such artist is Sulayman Afose, who was born and bred in this floating town. His work is beginning to attract international attention with the capture of everyday images that inspire his art. Afose tells ‘Inside Africa’ he plans to inspire a younger generation to take up a lens by passing on the skills he has learnt in workshops, organised by the African Artists Foundation.
Also on the programme, Methu talks to another talented Nigerian photographer, Jenevieve Aken. The work of this model-turned-photographer has been on display in exhibitions across Nigeria, South Africa and Europe.
Her latest series is called ‘The Masked Woman’, and it portrays images of independent, professional women in Nigeria. She also features as the subject in some of the portraits. Aken gives ‘Inside Africa’ host Methu a crash course in photography, advising her: “It’s all about feel and emotion when it comes to portraits. So, I try to put feeling and I try to put emotions in every photograph I take.”

Zinedine Zidane unveils his current world XI

No Rooney, not even Chelsea sensation, Eden Hazard has made ex France international, Zinedine Zidane’s current world XI list. The only premier league player found on his fantasy team list is Manchester City’s Yaya Toure. Well, his choices.

It shouldn’t shock you that most of the players on the list are from Real Madrid. On the list. include Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Yaya Toure, Iker Casillas Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema,  Dani Alves Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
His seven first choice substitutes:  Manuel Neuer, Phillip Lahm, Raphael Varane, Andres Iniesta, Paul Pogba, Franck Ribery and Sergio Aguero.‎

"He has failed and should go". Shuaibu Amodu slams Stephen Keshi

Newly-appointed Super Eagles Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu has implored the senior national team coach, Stephen Keshi to leave his job following his failure to qualify the team for the 2015 African Nations Cup.
The former Super Eagles coach stated that Keshi has failed in his duty as a coach and did not deserve a second chance. He added that he should follow the footsteps of U-23 coach, Samson Siasia who left his job after he faced a similar situation few years ago.
“We must be very careful as we address the Stephen Keshi issue. As a colleague, I sympathize with his situation in two ways. For those who were there when I was called up from the technical department to come and complete the remaining two AFCON qualifiers, I said that if I had my way, I would have said he be allowed to finish the assignment so that we would be in a better position to assess him.
“In between that, if I had to go in and take the task because I had no choice then as it were, and I had succeeded with the team, it would have been good, but he too would have boasted that he could have also qualified the team if they had allowed him. Also if I had failed, I would go down and all that I have achieved on my career would probably had gotten a question mark. I was happy when the issues began to turn around later as if it was how I wanted it to be and he was allowed to complete the job.
“Now that is over, I think you guys are in a better position to assess him because as a coach, you are as good as your last game. At that time, I reckoned that if I had taken the job and failed, it would affect my reputation. I think any professional coach would assume the same position. He alone will decide whether he still has the reputation or not. If you still have the reputation, you leave, if you do not, you stay like a beggar.

“In my opinion, he has failed and should go. To keep him is to set a bad precedence. When Siasia failed with the Super Eagles, the whole country told him
told him to go and Jonathan could not save him. If we want to live on those standards, then he has failed and should go because what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The situation as it is today, if I were Keshi, I would say sorry, I have failed this time around. I can try another time, so let another person take over.” He concluded.
