"Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God" – Fayose

Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has insisted that he hasn’t been officially  served any impeachment notice that the news flying over social media and radio/TV do not hold any water. 
Fayose during a programme tagged “Meet Your Governor” aired on EKTV, Ekiti Radio, Progress FM and NTA, Ado Ekiti on Monday said he is only being attacked  for supporting President Goodluck but will overcome the troubles.

“I’m like Israel that is in the midst of enemies but will always prevail. Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God. They are doing all these just to get at me because of my support for President Jonathan and I have no regret for supporting the president.

Let me say it again, I have not been served any impeachment notice. The House of Assembly is also on recess and Dr Adewale Omirin is not the speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Omirin is in court, challenging his impeachment and he can’t be challenging his impeachment in court and at the same time laying claim to being Speaker,” he said.‎

Alao-Akala to Ajimobi, "Buhari's name won't guarantee you victory."

Former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala yesterday told  the incumbent governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi that using the name of the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhamma
du Buhari won’t get him re-elected.
The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate’s opinion was conveyed  in a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs of his Campaign Organisation, Oludare Ogunlana.

Alao-Akala said

 “Using Buhari’s name rather than his (Ajimobi) achievements is the greatest undoing a sinking governor can do to win at all cost. Buhari did not award contract at questionable amount or neglect meritocracy for mediocrity.

“The APC administration is anti-masses as it has inflicted pains on the people as against its campaign promises in 2011.

“Ajimobi is the most corrupt governor in the history of the state while Buhari is the only former head of state without a house in Abuja and the only former leader without an oil bloc. How then does Ajimobi think using Buhari’s name to campaign will guarantee him victory?”
He also alleged that the APC is planning to bring Buhari to the state to campaign on Ajimobi’s behalf.

“To save Ajimobi from the imminent defeat in Saturday’s election, plans have been concluded to bring Buhari to Ibadan on Wednesday under the guise of ‘Thank you tour’‎ to shore up support for the drowning anti-masses governor but we believe that just like nothing was able to stop Buhari’s victory last week, Ajimobi is on his way out of the Government House,” he said.

PDP issues a statement on Oba of Lagos' hate comments

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has released a statement on the hate comments made by the Oba of Lagos against Igbos in Lagos.

“The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns in the strongest possible terms the emerging height of political recklessness in Lagos and Ekiti states ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections and calls on all Nigerians to stand up against such anti-democratic tendencies.

The senseless and unpatriotic impeachment move against Governor Ayo Fayose by out-going APC state legislators and the barbaric death threats on non-indigenes in Lagos by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu if they vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje ascend to a height of unruliness that should not be accommodated.

The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the APC legislators against Governor Fayose. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and bear our full weight in defense of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti state.


We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power.
In the same vein, it is indeed most unfortunate that a royal father of the status of the Oba of Lagos should attempt to drag the revered traditional institution into partisan politics to the level of threatening innocent Nigerians with the view to prevent them from freely exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right.

Our response to the Oba of Lagos is that he cannot play God and can never be God. God owns the universe and every part of it and can never share His glory with any human no matter how highly placed. We therefore call on all Nigerians in Lagos state; all Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas and people of other tribes; all northerners and southerners; all Christians and Muslims to turn against this unpatriotic stance, by coming out enmasse to vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje on Saturday.

Undoubtedly, this anti-Nigeria position reminds of the 2013 inhuman and callous arrest, detention and eventual ‘deportation’ of non-indigenes by the APC-led government of Lagos state and confirms fears that the APC is indeed on a mission to destroy our national unity, balkanize the nation and obliterate the personal freedom Nigerians enjoy today.

Already, the APC has started terrorizing supporters of the PDP with vows to make life unbearable for them when it eventually assumes power. Our investigation reveals that many of our prominent supporters have been marked. The process has already started with threats to the life, family and business of the Chairman of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah for supporting PDP candidates and helping non-indigenes win some Lagos seats in the National Assembly on the platform of the our great party.

Indeed, if this threats on a duly elected state governor and innocent Nigerians constitute the picture or foretaste of the order of the day when the APC finally assumes power at the center, then the nation is in serious danger. However, the PDP states in very unambiguous terms that Nigerians would not accept such under any guise whatsoever.

This is more so because in the last 16 years, our citizens from all walks of lives have seen civility and decorum under the PDP-led administration and would not accept any attempt by anybody to institute a reign of terror in the country.

We therefore urge General Muhammadu Buhari as the leader of the APC to call his members and supporters, particularly in Lagos and Ekiti to order; especially bearing in mind that it was the peaceful atmosphere and the level playing ground nurtured by the PDP-led administration that created the room for his emergence at the presidential polls.

Our country cannot at this moment afford to slide into anarchy, reign of terror and deliberate schemes to divide the people for selfish political reasons.

The PDP will completely resist all anti democratic forces from any quarters. We therefore charge Nigerians, especially those in Lagos and Ekiti states respectively to stand up fearlessly and reject the unpatriotic stance of the Oba of Lagos and the undemocratic move to dismantle the mandate given to Governor Ayo Fayose by the people.

Writer, Pius Adesanmi weighs in on Oba of Lagos' threats to the Igbos.

Few hours ago, a paramount ruler in Lagos State, Oba Akiolu was quoted and even recorded threatening to drown Igbos resident in the state who do not vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode in the forthcoming election in Lagos State.‎
Of course, every sane person ( regardless of the tribe) who read the statement condemned it out rightly, it was not only irresponsible, shameful and unroyal-like but was also capable of dividing the country along ethnic/tribal lines.
To many people Infact all of us, he took a very wrong path to backing the candidacy of Akinwunmi Ambode and unfortunately this might cost the latter some votes.
Renowned writer, Pius Adesanmi has shared his thoughts on the matter. Excerpts from his facebook post below.

“Folks, please, let’s stop cutting and slicing this thing. This is

monumental xenophobia and reaction to ‎it should not be up for ‎debate. A more honorable, decisive reaction should be: not in ‎our name!

That palace clarification is an insult to the intelligence – if you‎ know how to read. It just simply perfumes the xenophobia. But ‎there are even more problems with the clarification – and with ‎those who are ‎satisfied with it. A few weeks ago, the Awujale of ‎Ijebuland had this to say to Goodluck Jonathan:

“It is not proper in Ijebuland or Yorubaland for an Oba to canvass for  ‎votes for any candidates seeking elective posts. In ‎Ijebu here, it is ‎not possible for any Oba, not even only in Ijebu, ‎in Yorubaland, to go out ‎and say vote for this, vote for that; that ‎person is looking for trouble. 

But give them the opportunity to ‎present their ‎programmes so that people can ‎make up their ‎minds on what to do. I think this is a very sound democratic ‎principle and that is what I have decided to do, to give you the ‎opportunity of meeting with the people.”

Now, many of us praised the Awujale to high heavens. We

congratulated him for stating the proper Yoruba ‎position with ‎regard‎ to the political neutrality of Obas and their fatherhood of ‎all. We embraced this position. Now, another major Yoruba ‎monarch offers this travesty while clarifying xenophobia:

“The Oba thereafter called on the Igbos chiefs to show ‎appreciation to ‎Lagos State ‎by supporting his candidate Mr. ‎Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier‎ promised.”

“His candidate”? Didn’t we all massively agree with the Awujale

that there‎ is no such thing as an Oba’s candidate? ‎I find it very troubling ‎that the same people who supported the ‎Awujale’s statement that a Yoruba Oba ought not to have a ‎candidate are now supporting another Yoruba Oba for endorsing ‎a candidate and bullying people about it in a xenophobic ‎manner.

Lagos is not a no man’s land. It is the repeated provocations on

that turf that is making so many people pretend ‎not to see that ‎Oba Akiolu’s statement should be condemned outright. But this ‎should not be the case. 

Provocation should not prevent you ‎from condemning xenophobia. Besides, it should be self-‎evident that Lagos is not a no man’s land and those making ‎that argument or implying it are just plain stupid. There are ‎perfectly legitimate ways for Yoruba nationalism to negate that ‎provocative trend without countenancing or tolerating

Xenophobia. 

Just yesterday, I dished out some serious koboko ‎to an Igbo brother of twenty years on his Wall for his growing ‎Lagos-based Igbo ethnicist Al Shabaabism. If I find it in a ‎Fulani man, an Igbirra man, an Okun man, I go after them.

Xenophobia is xenophobia. 

No buts, no ifs, no let us understand ‎the circumstances. There should be no circumstance in which ‎xenophobia is excusable.

If you embraced the Awujale’s statement and you’re now

prevaricating over Oba Akiolu’s statement, check and reboot

your moral and ethical compass.

And, please, Lagosians pride themselves in being Nigeria’s

singular “hypermodernity”. There is a surfeit of “gedegbe l’Eko

wa” exceptionalist discourse to back this up. The cosmopolitan

essence is taken very seriously in Lagos.

If you want to be hypermodern and cosmopolitan, stop dredging

up, even metaphorically, the tradition of the Lagoon eating up

dissentient subjects.

Our friends in Salem, Massachusetts, stopped trying and ‎executing witches because they wanted to be seen as modern…

Our friends in Oyo town stopped asking the King’s horseman to

commit suicide upon the death of his principal because they

wanted to be seen as modern…

Nobody in Massachusetts is dredging up witch executions to

harass modern subjects…

Nobody in Oyo town is dredging up Elesin Oba’s suicide to

harass modern subjects…

Stop harassing me with osa (Lagoon) in Lagos.

Lagos first lady, Dame Abimbola Fashola shares her love story.

The first lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola in a recent interview with City Magazine went down memory lane on how she met her husband, the outgoing Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola. 

“I met my husband at age 27. That was at my best friend’s engagement then. I was serving and making sure everyone was okay and well taken care of, attending to people and all that. And then his father saw me and then said “I have a son and I will like you to meet my son”. So I said no problem sir. He said good. My son will soon come in. 

When he came, we introduced ourselves. We met. We exchanged our numbers and that was it. We took it off from there. He was cool, he looked cool-headed. He was friendly. He had no airs about him. He was a simple fellow. He was already working then as a lawyer. 

He was at Sofunde, Belgore & Co. He clicked with my sisters too. He was always going to parties with them. He was bubbling with them. I didn’t use to go to parties with them. Since my sisters accepted him, I had no choice but to accept him.”

Oba's palace issues statement on the viral anti-igbo comments.

The Oba of Lagos has cleared the air on the inciting comments he allegedly made concerning the Igbos in Lagos State yesterday. 
Below is a statement from the palace.
THE PALACE MAKES FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON THE STATEMENT BY THE OBA OF LAGOS.
‎My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.
Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu. At the meeting the visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbos in. Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighborliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.
Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to the growth of investments in Lagos. He gave the assurance that he is not disturbed or angry with South-East and South- South votes for President Jonathan as perceived by the Eze Ndigbos. The Obas thereafter called on the Igbos chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier promised.
He assured them of his continued support‎ and assistance where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and bitter kola and pouring of liberation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per tradition.
2.Oba Akiolu stated further that the Igbo people have not betrayed the throne. Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people. Lagos has done so much to make the Igbos comfortable and to prosper. For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding. The Oba of Lagos prays that the Lagoon and the throne will continue to bless and protect all those who reside and visit Lagos.
3. Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon. The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the need for unity and understanding when you do business in an environment and in this case when you live and do business in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and prosperity for all its inhabitants.

Victor Valdes gives his shirt to a fan injured by Rooney's shot

‎Manchester United goalie, Victor Valdes during the pre match warm up at Old Trafford on Saturday‎ removed his shirt and gave it to a 5 year-old boy who was left writhing in pain and teary-eyed after one of Wayne Rooney’s shots hit him in the face. The kind gesture touched a red Devil fan who witnessed the incident. 

He wrote ‎ how it went down on his Reddit‎ page.

“I was in the Stretford End for the Villa game yesterday and this moment was in the warm up. Doing the usual shooting drills, Rooney blasted an effort over, striking a young lad (no more than 5-6 years old). It hit the young lad square in the face and sent him literally cartwheeling, and, needless to say, the waterworks began. The players didn’t realise what had happened and carried on with their drills. 

After it was brought to their attention, and obviously checking the little lad was okay, Victor Valdes removed the shirt from his back and ordered it to be sent back to the injured boy along with a signed ball from the warm up. The whole Stretford End applauded and it was a touching moment that showed the club still has a heart in the modern game. Although it was basic human decency, it made me immensely proud to be a fan of this great club.”

Did Oba Akiolu really threaten Igbos in Lagos State.

A statement credited to paramount ruler of Lagos State Oba Rilwan Akiolu threatening Igbo residents in Lagos to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections or perish in the lagoon has gone viral.
The inciting statement which was published by ThisDay newspapers has been described as tasteless and reckless with many calling both parties (Akiolu and Ambode) to clear the air. While some argued that it emanated from Jimi Agbaje’s camp, others accused Ambode of using the royal father to divide the state.

Excerpts from the hate speech. “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future.

“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here.

“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”

 “I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years.

“He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change.

“From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultations with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time,” he said.

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made the cover page of foreign business newspaper, Financial Times. The story on the APC chieftain was captioned, “Nigeria’s Machiavelli: How A Political Godfather Helped Bring Down A President”.

Excerpts from the article.
