Dame Jonathan deserves her humiliation at Port Harcourt Airport – Rivers APC

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, deserves the humiliation she suffered last week when she was denied access to the Protocol Lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said. The party in a statement issued Tuesday in Port Harcourt and signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, berated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for splitting hairs over the issue.
The party said: “We read with dismay the unwarranted attack by PDP against the Federal Government over the denial of access to the Protocol Lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport to the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. To us in Rivers State, this attack against the Federal Government is unwarranted and not necessary as Dame Patience Jonathan is merely reaping what she sewed while in power. Which Port Harcourt International Airport are we talking about? Is it the airport which Dame Patience Jonathan ensured was abandoned even as other airports whose rehabilitation was started at the same time were completed? Does the present state of the airport, which has become an eyesore, not enough reason not to allow this misguided woman any space in the airport? The sad state of the Port Harcourt Airport is one of the numerous acts perpetrated by the Jonathans to show the level of their hatred and disdain for Rivers State and her people just because Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi happens to govern the State at the time she and her husbands were gods in Nigeria.”
Rivers APC also asked: “If we may ask the noisy PDP, where was the party when this woman during the lawless PDP-led Federal Government under the watch of her husband, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, used the police to harass, intimidate and hound then-Governor Rotimi Amaechi and APC leaders in Rivers State to the chagrin of Nigerians and the international community? Where were they when this vicious woman used Chief Nyesom Wike, her then attack dog, to murder the rule of law through the infamous CP Joseph Mbu and heartlessly dispersed 13,200 teachers who gathered to receive their employment letters, aided the five renegade lawmakers to attempt the impeachment of the then Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, barricaded and sealed the State Assembly for one legislative year and even blocked the access road to the Government House on one occasion, preventing Governor Amaechi and his visitors from using the road?”
The statement recalled that “the same lawless Dame Jonathan used Wike, who was at the time a junior minister, to order their thugs (GDI) to stone State Governors who visited Rivers in solidarity with Amaechi for the humiliation he suffered under the watchful eyes of then-President Jonathan. The same First Lady used Wike, the police and the army to forcefully break into the newly constructed stadium in Port Harcourt just to prove their powers.”
Rivers APC further asked: “Where was PDP when this woman attacked the wife of the late President, Hajiya Yar’Adua, and even plotted to usurp her land in Abuja because she lost her husband? Where was PDP when this woman supervised the bombing of APC Secretariat at Okirika and killing of APC members just because of election?”
 The party advised Dame Jonathan and PDP to stop complaining but to prepare to pay for the sins they committed against the people of the Niger Delta.

“In case they do not, know, we wish to tell them that there is something called the Law of Karma and that even the Holy Book makes it clear that we shall all reap whatever we sow,” Rivers APC said.

SERIE A 2015 – 16: Fixtures drawn, Juventus to battle Roma in Second week

The 2015-16 Serie A fixture list was drawn up on Monday evening, starting with Fiorentina v Milan, Verona-Roma and Juventus-Udinese. The ceremony was held at the Expo centre in Milan and the campaign runs from August 22 2015 to May 15 2016. It is an unusually early start by Serie A standards, brought forward to help Italy prepare for Euro 2016.

There are already some huge games in the opening weeks, as in the second round there’s Roma v Juventus and in Week 3 the Milan Derby. Maurizio Sarri, who replaced Rafael Benitez as Napoli coach after a fine season at Empoli, will take the Partenopei to Sassuolo on the opening weekend.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Bologna have been handed a difficult opening fixture at Lazio, who finished third last season.

Serie A newcomers Frosinone and Carpi begin against Torino and Sampdoria, respectively.

Lukman Haruna scores first goal for Anzhi Makhachkala

Lukman Haruna scored his first goal for Anzhi Makhachkala at home against Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian premier league. Haruna, 24, put his club forward in the opening 15 minutes of the game although they failed to maintain the lead and suffered a 3-1 defeat which saw them slip to 15th on the log. Haruna joined Anzhi Makhachkala on loan from Dynamo Kiev after failing to get enough playing time.

Schalke ends talk with Juventus over Draxler

Schalke have shut the door on the transfer of Julian Draxler to Juventus after both clubs fail to reach an agreement. Julian Draxler already agreed personal terms with the SERIE A champions leaving both clubs to negotiate and reach a conclusion. However, Schalke rejected the bid tabled by Juventus on Monday and also stated they won’t be entertaining talks from the club any longer.

“I can confirm that we received an offer late this afternoon from Juventus,” Horst Heldt told SchalkeTV. “I took a look at it and then decided we would reject it and we have informed Juventus that we are not open to any further talks. We don’t want them to contact our player either. That’s the bottom line.”

Draxler had a release clause in his contract valued at a reported €45 million, though that expired at the end of June. Juventus had reportedly bid much less for the Germany international, leading to Schalke’s blank refusal to negotiate further.
The 21-year-old is contracted to Schalke until 2018. It is not yet certain whether Juve will attempt to test Held by presenting an improved bid, or instead turn their attentions to Mario Gotze, another of their targets once the transfer of Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich goes through.

Hazard better than Ronaldo – Mourinho

Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho claimed that Belgian, Eden Hazard was a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo last season. ‎Mourinho hinged his claim on the premise that Ronaldo, despite scoring 61 goals in all competitions last season, failed to win any major title with his club.

“I think so,” Mourinho told The Guardian. “I don’t like players or managers to win individual trophies without the team.”

“Last season, yes. In spite of the fact that Ronaldo was fantastic. He was fantastic,” Mourinho said.

“He scored an incredible number of goals. I am not saying he is not fantastic. I am just saying that, in my personal view, every football player in the world should understand that a team has to be in front and no titles [are important].”‎

Hazard or Ronaldo may be debatable, but to Mourinho there’s no doubt that Messi remains No. 1.
He added: “Football without titles is nothing. Messi won the treble. He won three competitions last year, he reached the Copa America final. He had a fantastic season for him and for his team.”‎

Drogba completes move to Montreal Impact

MLS club, Montreal Impact have announced the signing of Ivorian, Didier Drogba on Monday.
The club bought the striker from Chicago Fire where he was initially signed.
Chicago initially obtained Drogba’s rights by filing a discovery claim on the player and pursued him for over a month. The Fire thought their offer would be enough to entice the former Chelsea forward to head to the Windy City, but Montreal soon entered the fray, and the prospect of playing in the French-speaking city proved more attractive to the former Ivory Coast captain.
When Drogba indicated his preference was to be in Montreal, the Fire traded his rights to the Impact in exchange for what one source with knowledge of the deal
described as a “substantial amount of targeted and regular allocation money” of at least $250,000.

Drogba scored 164 goals for Chelsea in two stints, first from 2004-2012, and again last season. He won the Premier League’s Golden Boot as top scorer in 2007 and 2010.

35 of Bill Cosby's rape accusers cover New York magazine

How can 35 people accuse you of rape and you scream “false allegation?”. No way please! But then something must have gone wrong somewhere with Bill Cosby. How can you sexually molest at least 35 ladies‎? Quite unfathomable. Was or is his sanity intact?

The women have covered the July 27 edition of New York magazine and recounted their ordeal in the hands of the famous comedian.

“The group of women Cosby allegedly assaulted functions almost as a longitudinal study – both for how an individual woman, on her own, deals with such trauma over the decades and for how the culture at large has grappled with rape over the same time period. In the ’60s, when the first alleged assault by Cosby occurred, rape was considered to be something violent committed by a stranger … But among younger women, and particularly online, there is a strong sense now that speaking up is the only thing to do, that a woman claiming her own victimhood is more powerful than any other weapon in the fight against rape.”

Senior editor of the NY magazine Noreen Malone wrote.

The testimony and photographs that appear in the mag display in no uncertain terms, the scale and diversity of the alleged abuse, with alleged victims ranging in age from their early 20s to 80, including women who were Playboy bunnies, TV writers, journalists and waitresses.

“I went into this thinking he was going to be my father. To wake up half-dressed and raped by the man that said he was going to love me like a father? That’s pretty sick.” one of the women, 


 Barbara Bowman, 48 narrated her  experiences with Cosby in the ’80s.

 “I felt like a prisoner; I felt I was kidnapped and hiding in plain sight. I could have walked down any street of Manhattan at any time and said, ‘I’m being raped and drugged by Bill Cosby,’ but who the hell would have believed me? Nobody, nobody.”

A Cosby Show writer Sammie Mays, 57, claimed an encounter with Cosby in 1987 derailed her life. 

“When I see Jell-O pudding, it comes flooding back. Bill Cosby, that encounter, that one time, played a major factor in the direction my life took, toward the dark side.”

When it comes to romance, Nigerian men are known to be actively engaging. Apart from their culture of carrying the financial burden of relationship with women, they harness every opportunity to appeal to their lovers, be it on social-network sites, in their respective offices, religious organizations, gym centers, parks, clubs among others.
   
Despite the many romantic attributes that could be said of men in Nigeria, women still hold a contrary account about them. Predominant among the contrary views women hold against men here is that no matter how romantic they are, getting them to the altar for marriage could be very challenging.
So, what are those factors that scare Nigerian men away from marriage? We have tried to compile some reasons that make most men feel jittery to converse on ‘Marriage’ as topic, feel free to add yours if not in our list.

1.) No wife materials‎

Common among some men is the reservation that there is scarcity of ‘wife-materials’ in Nigeria. In this case, they are not referring to ladies not being in quantifiable distribution among men, what they are complaining about is that most ladies of this generation lack the necessary attributes that will qualify them for the lifetime commitment called marriage. If this is the case, time of quality search can help heal the wound of such man.

2.)They get sex freely without marriage than in time past
Realizing now that they can get sex more easily than in times past, when ‘virginity’ for women was a pass value to marriage, some men now feel lot of women today have lost it when it comes to keeping themselves whole. But, this might not be the fault of women as promiscuity is not an exclusive act than can be carried out without the consent of either gender.

3.)Nigeria weddings are expensive
In a country where a man is expected to marry a woman in three different kinds of wedding- Religious, Traditional and Court, the cost of marriage no doubt is something men find very intimidating. As of last year, the average Nigeria wedding cost something like N500,000 and the it goes upward from that to more unimaginable cost. For most people, especially in this economy, that’s a lot of money. But all we advise is that men should try and cut their coat according to their material.

4.) In search of a ‘working class’

Today, most Nigerian men are in search of a wife capable of  sharing financial responsibilities with them. Gone are the days when men marry ‘full-house-wives’, the increasing cost of  living has tilted most men in favor of ladies who have a means of livelihood and willing to share  with their man, the burden of building a home.
5.) Fear of freedom

There is a common belief among some men that marriage puts an end to one’s freedom. Single men today are much more proud about not being dependent and being on their own. They fear marriage because they will become answerable for every action they take to their spouse. That is one big responsibility some men are not ready to take up.
6.)Career

One of the predominant question most men will secretly ask themselves before making the decision to marry are, Will my partner make agitation about me being in office for long hours? Will he or she understand my love for my career? These are cogent questions and answering these questions could slow the decisive actions to be taken on marriage plans.
7.) Unrealistic Expectations from In-laws
Some parents have set certain standards for anyone who will marry their child, either way be it that such expectations are from the groom parent’s or bride, the regulations sometimes affect relationships. If the expectations are behavioral, the challenge might be little but there are some discouraging situations where parents decide the profession qualifications, properties, etc that must be acquired by the suitor before they can give out their child to him in marriage.

8.)‎Trust issues

Most times, people fear to get committed into a relationship because of trust issues. Some men have been bruised in their past relationships and therefore they don’t want to put themselves out there.
9.)Bad Testimonies from Married couple
Generally, most men get intimidated by marriage as a result of the testimonies they hear from those in marriage. Before getting into marriage talks, it is a common thing among men to ask their brothers, friends who are already married on how the social institution is and the testimonies they get are most times discouraging, as such they fear their marriage will be a replica of the testimonies they have gathered.
10.)‎Cultural limitations

Nigeria is a country with diverse culture and The diversity sometimes create challenges for men who are in search of women with similar culture. The good thing though is that those who endeavor to explore inter-cultural relationships get the opportunity to gain an in-depth appreciation of other customs.

President Buhari's US trip fruitless – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent US trip of President Muhammadu Buhari as a fruitless venture. 
At a media briefing in Abuja on Sunday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said events after Buhari’s visit to the US indicated that neither the President nor his party, the All Progressives Congress, had learnt anything from the trip.
“Now that the visit has come and gone, our fear is that nothing whatsoever has been learnt or gained. What we continue to receive as a nation have been embarrassing disagreements, accusations and counter-accusations, blames and denials on very important issues due to lack of tact and skill in the management of state matters by the APC-led administration.

“It is disheartening that rather than secure any sort of tangible gain for the fight against terrorism, which has lost steam under the APC watch, with insurgents, who were pushed to the verge of surrender by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, now surging back and spreading into the country, we get nothing but exchanges and disagreements between the Presidency and their American hosts.

“This is not only embarrassing but also a worrisome indication of crass ineptitude in the handling of international affairs on the part of the present administration.”‎

He urged the government to settle down and face the business of governance and the fight against insurgency with every sense of seriousness, especially given Buhari’s promise in his April 2, 2015 CNN interview to end the scourge two months after his inauguration.
The All Progressives Congress in its reaction described the PDP’s attack as a beer parlour gossip.

”Today’s statement is the most tortuous yet by the PDP and, honestly, sounds more like a compendium of beer parlour gossips and side talks than a serious criticism of a sitting government,” 

”To be in opposition does not mean you have to constitute yourself to a nuisance by rushing to the press with all sorts of hot air statements. It is the quality, rather than the frequency, of your interventions that makes you relevant as an opposition in a democracy,” The party said in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
