I Did It Because I Didn’t Have A Choice

They say the secret of men, or in this
case a woman, is in their stories. Read Chinwe’s story and see if you can

I had thought that being a graduate
would mean all my worries were over, but to my surprise it was as though jobs
were running from me. Just when I was about to give up, an old friend
recommended me for a job; to replace her colleague who was going on leave. I
was hungry to make it, and determined to prove to people that I could be
something after all. My employers saw it in me – the career drive that can
send an innocent lady to do anything possible – and that’s how I felt.  
Now it dawns on me that although I had
risen in my career, I feel like I’ve fallen so low. 
I didn’t have a choice- it was either
that… or nothing. “You have to go the
extra mile to get more out of life”, my boss used to tell me. Other times he
would say “sacrifices are part of business… prove to me you are worthy of this
promotion; that you can do anything, no matter what it takes, to get what you
want.”
He never cared about the repercussions
as he saw us as tools that can be sent out and used all because of an extra
client in his pocket. I simply couldn’t see it, as I was blinded by pressure
and the desire to prove myself.  Sometimes I would return home with tears
in my eyes, unable to let people know what I went through to get to where I
was. That’s how my life has been. I had to grow, I had to be relevant, I had to
do it because I didn’t have a choice.”
That’s all she said before she was
overcome with tears- you wouldn’t need a soothsayer to tell you sexual
harassment is more prevalent than you can possibly imagine. Chinwe’s story echoes
the experiences of several others who are taken advantage of at work just
because they are women and are desperate.

Don’t Cry For Bola Tinubu | By: Femi Aribisala

Many monuments have been built in honour of the man
Bola Tinubu. He is acclaimed as the political genius of our times who not only
engineered the taming of the PDP juggernaut, he caged it and confined it to the
backwaters of Otuoke. Since the APC defeat of the PDP in the presidential
election, Tinubu the tactician has been feted, celebrated and praised to high
heavens. But all these encomiums have proved to be highly exaggerated.
The truth of the matter is that Tinubu, the
veritable Jagaban of Borgu, is a master of political illusion. He is remarkable
for the distinction of characteristically pulling defeat out of the jaws of
putative victory. He mid-wifed the birth of the APC, only to be shut out of its
vice-presidential sweepstakes. He engineered APC victory at the centre, only to
see his arch-enemies take over the posts of Speaker and Senate President in the
Natiuonal Assembly. He piggy-backed Buhari to the presidency, only to be shut
out of a say in the president’s cabinet nominees.
Tinubu is called the National Leader of the APC
when there is no such post in the party’s Constitution. When a critical meeting
of APC bigwigs was called to address the party’s imbroglio in the National
Assembly, the “National Leader” could not attend because, in actual fact, he is
not even a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
Sowing and reaping
In 2011, Tinubu was hailed for cutting his nose to
spite his face. The PDP nominated his kinswoman, Mulikat Akande, as Speaker of
the National Assembly. However, Tinubu conspired with recalcitrant PDP
party-members to frustrate the plans of their party for his South-West homestead.
Instead, he engineered the election of Sokoto’s Aminu Tambuwal, an APC wolf in
PDP sheep’s clothing, as Speaker.
In 2015, Tinubu received payback for these
shenanigans again to the detriment of his native South-West. The same Aminu
Tambuwal of Sokoto he schemed into the position of Speaker in 2011, repaid
Tinubu by frustrating his efforts to install his Lagos acolyte, Femi
Gbajabiamila, as Speaker in 2015. Taking a leaf straight out of Tinubu’s 2011
playbook, Tambuwal conspired with opposition PDP members to install another
Northern PDP turncoat, Yakubu Dogara, as Speaker.
Tinubu’s comeuppance here is particularly savage
because it was actually Gbajabiamila who reportedly convinced Tinubu that
Tambuwal would readily act as traitor to his PDP party in 2011. It is therefore
veritable poetic justice that the same Tambuwal became an equally ready tool of
the PDP in the frustration of Gbajabiamila’s ambition and the interests of
Tinubu and the APC in 2015.
Moreover, Tinubu was repaid for his 2011
manipulations with interest. The same treachery employed to Tinubu’s political
disadvantage in the House was also duplicated in the Senate. Bukola Saraki,
another PDP turncoat, refused to abide by the dictates of APC Central, firmly
controlled by Tinubu’s ACN. He snatched the position of Senate President
without official APC approval, but with the support of the opposition PDP. So
doing, he sidelined both Tinubu’s first-choice of George Akume, as well as his
second-choice of Ahmed Lawan.
Crumbled cookie
Just as Tinubu was licking his wounds at the denial
of his “rightful inheritance” in the National Assembly after the APC victory at
the polls, the news came that his political cookie had equally crumbled at Aso
Rock. It had been popularly alleged that Tinubu’s portion in Buhari’s
presidency would not be limited to the appointment of his political godson as
vice-president, but would also include the allocation of no less than nine
choice ministerial nominees to the discretion of the Jagaban of Borgu.
But by the time Buhari unfurled his ministerial
list two weeks ago, the alleged dedicated slots had shrunk to zero. Many of us
had warned in the heady days of the formation of the APC that those insistent
that power must return to the North would be determined to checkmate Tinubu if
and when the election was won. We warned Tinubu that even as he cannot
conceivably be accepted nationally to rule Nigeria as president, even so can he
not rule Nigeria by proxy. We warned him that the North would never allow
Buhari to be his Man Friday in Aso Rock.
However, Tinubu was too far gone to listen. It
would now appear that he even failed to take out insurance policies against
such probable eventualities.
But once elected, Buhari started a romance with
Babatunde Fashola and Kayode Fayemi designed clearly to sideline the Jagaban.
While these former governors were previously members of Tinubu’s inner-circle,
they had since run out of patience with the heavy handedness of their boss.
Therefore, during the election campaign, both of them campaigned for Buhari
above and beyond the call of party duty.
Fashola, in particular, was clearly fed up with
being under Tinubu’s political shadow. In the struggle for who would be the APC
gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Tinubu did not allow Fashola to choose
his successor, in the ignoble tradition of Nigerian governors. While Fashola
favoured Supo Shasore, the former Attorney General of Lagos State, Tinubu
railroaded in Akinwunmi Ambode as the APC candidate.
While again, in the ignoble tradition of Nigerian politics,
governors promptly transform themselves into Senators when their term as
governor ends, this option was closed off to Fashola because Tinubu had already
installed his wife as the Senator from Fashola’s constitutency. The only option
left for Fashola politically was a presidential ministerial appointment and,
even there, Tinubu had put up a road block against him.
Tinubu prefers to nominate political nonentities
for higher office in the South-West, so that he would be the only Iroko tree in
the forests of the region. Therefore his candidates for ministerial appointment
from Lagos were his little nationally-known former commissioners, Wale Edun and
Yemi Cardoso, who could pose no threats whatsoever to his ascribed South-West
political supremacy.
Alarm bells
But when Fashola and Fayemi accompanied Buhari to
the G7 meeting in Germany in June 2015, alarm bells started ringing in Tinubu’s
Bourdillon Road mansion in Lagos. This was clearly a signial that these former
governors were intent on by-passing the official godfather of the South-West by
applying to be member of Buhari’s kitchen cabinet on their own recognisance.
The Tinubu brigade would have none of this.
Therefore, a campaign of calumny was launched to cut Fashola in particular to
dimunitive size. Suddenly, the “memo” was sent out implying the former governor
had developed political leprosy. When two books were launched simultaneously
celebrating his achievements as governor, none of his APC colleagues from Lagos
dared to attend for fear of entering the bad books of the dreaded Jagaban.
In order to nail the coffin on Fashola’s
ministerial aspirations, it was leaked to the press that a whopping 78 million
naira of public money was spent on the construction of his personal website.
139 million naira was also alleged to have been spent on two boreholes
constructed in Government House, Lagos during his tenure. The intention here
was to ensure that Fashola becomes ineligible for ministerial consideration on
grounds that he would not pass Buhari’s anti-corruption integrity test.
However, Buhari was apparently unimpressed by these
political shenanigans. When his list of ministerial nominees were unfurled,
Fashola and Fayemi featured prominently among Buhari’s “first eleven.” None of
Tinubu’s nominees made the list. Other nominees from the South-West were
precisely the kind of people Tinubu did not want in Buhari’s team; people who
would not be indebted to Tinubu but to Buhari.
While Buhari completely ignored Tinubu’s
candidates, he included that of another South-West bigwig. Obasanjo’s favourite
son, Prince Olagusoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun State, was included in
Buhari’s list. Thereby, the president asserted the saliency of Obasanjo’s
South-West influence in Aso Rock over that of the Jagaban. He even pointedly
appointed Obasanjo as his special envoy to Guinea-Bissau.
This is certainly not what Tinubu bargained for
when he decided to pitch his tent with Buhari and the APC. If he were to be
furthermore overlooked in the appointment of BOT chairman of the APC, the
marginalisation of the Jagaban in the post-election APC would be complete.
Comeuppance
Some of us saw this coming. In the heady early days
of the APC coalition, we warned that Tinubu would be used and dumped. But we
were labelled as PDP lapdogs and charlatans. That is why I say today: let no
one cry for Bola Tinubu.
Anyone who hears Tinubu’s recent vicious attack on
Saraki would realise these are the tokens of a frustrated man. Tinubu could not
attack the President, therefore he poured all his venom on the Senate
President. He accused him of indiscipline and disloyalty; the very things he
celebrated in the PDP rebels who joined forces with him against their party in
2011.
The recent declaration that Buhari appointed
Babachir Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation at the instance
of Tinubu is a face-saving device. The Tinubu camp forgot to tell us this until
now. At the time of new SGF’s appointment, all the uproar was about the
Northern lopsidedness in Buhari’s choices.
Observing the sidelining of Tinubu by Buhari,
Senator Femi Okunroumu said: “I am having a good laugh. This is what I
expected. In any case, Tinubu is stretching his luck too far as he wants to
dictate who will rule Nigeria. Tinubu’s wings need to be clipped. With the ministerial
list, Tinubu has been dumped. He should not just be dumped, he should be
disgraced.”
On his part, Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo
Adebanjo, said: “APC is not a party; it is a gang of people whose sole aim was
to remove Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as president. In a real party, you share the
spoils of office before elections not after elections. This is what is
happening in APC. We warned our people, but they failed to listen.”
In the new politics of today’s APC, it is better to
be the enemy of Bola Tinubu than to be his friend. The enemies of Tinubu become
Senate presidents; they become Speakers of the House of Representatives; they
become ministers of the Federal government. But the friends of Tinubu are sent
to Siberia.
The Jagaban of Borgu himself has been slain
politically upon his high places. How are the mighty fallen!

UEFA has ranked Spanish outfit, Real
Madrid as the richest club in Europe. 2014 revenue for Madrid has been put at
550m Euros, gate receipts (121m Euros), biggest wage bill (270m Euros) and most
expensive squad (316m Euros).
“This year’s edition of the
report highlights some notable improvements that have taken place in the last
three years, coinciding with the introduction of financial fair play.”
UEFA general secretary, Gianni Infantino revealed.
Clubs in England have the highest
average wage bill, at 113.9m Euros, with Germany the next highest on 63.2m
Euros.

Toyota to recall 6.5 million cars

Toyota Motor, Toyota Motor corporation, Toyota Motor recall vehicles, Yaris, Vitz subcompact, Corolla, Camry, North America, Europe, Japan, toyota cars
Toyota has announced that that it will recall about 6.5
million cars to fix a defect
in the power window switch. The company
revealed that there is a potentially insufficient amount of grease applied to
the master switches during production and this can cause a short circuit and
when this happens, the switch assembly could overheat, melt, produce smoke and lead
to fire outbreak.  
Toyota also disclosed that affected owners would receive
a mail notification and Toyota dealers will inspect the switch and apply heat-resistant
grease; the internal circuit board could even be replaced if the switch is malfunctioning.

Vehicles involved in the US are certain models of the
Toyota Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, RAV4, Sequoia, Tundra and Yaris, the
Scion xB and xD, built between 2006 and 2011. In Australia, models include the
Aurion, Camry, Corolla, Kluger, RAV4 and Yaris produced between August 2005 and
August 2006 and January 2009 and December 2010.

last season’s 1-0 win at the Nou Camp. The 4-time African footballer of the year revealed that he prayed he
wouldn’t be subjected to such humiliation by the 3-time Ballon d’or winner. 
 ‘Last year in the dressing room, he jokingly
said he will nutmeg me. I saw him nutmeg two of my team-mates and thought he’d
do it to me. Whenever he came near me I screamed inside ‘please not me, don’t

Quitting Eagles wasn't an easy decision – Emenike

Al Ain forward, Emmanuel Emenike has described his decision to retire from the
national team as a difficult one. Emenike who played peace-maker role between
the Oliseh and Keshi row called it quits with the Super Eagles via his
instagram page few days ago. Speaking with BBC Sports, the 28 year-old just like
Enyeama claimed that he withdrew from the squad to allow peace
to reign.
“It was not an
easy decision. I didn’t think my international career would come to a sudden
end, but that is life. Sometimes it’s better to remove yourself from an
environment that doesn’t suit you mentally and physically and this is what I
have done. I also felt it was important that people hear directly from me to
avoid a funny twist to the story. I wish to thank the coaches who gave me a
chance, fellow players and in particular big thanks to all my fans for their
unconditional support.”

time in the life of a man when he must be a man and stand up and speak the
truth, even when others are too timid and intimidated to do so.

By the grace of God I have today reached that point
and I will bare my mind to the sickly tyrant. And after I have had my say I
shall gallantly take my stand and with faith proclaim: let the demons of hell
be invoked and conjured up and let them come forth and do their very worse, for
they shall not pass and neither shall they prevail.
And so it shall be as I stand on these holy words
and boldly proclaim, o wicked tyrant, I stand and I fight against you. I stand
and I fight in the name of the Living God. I stand and I fight in the name of
Harrow and Cambridge. I stand and I fight in the name of Kelly and London. I
stand and I fight as the son of my father. I stand and I fight as a proud and
strong African. I stand and I fight as a resilient and irresistible Nigerian. I
stand and I fight as a man of courage. I stand and I fight as a beautiful and
irrepressible black man.
I stand and I
fight as a man of faith, a Christian who knows that his God is mighty and can
never be defeated. We are what we believe ourselves to be. I am unbeatable,
irrepressible and indestructible. I am a covenant child of the Living God, a
prince of the Faith and a son of the Kingdom. My head may be bloodied but it is

And so to the tyrant, I have just this to say: you
can detain me, you can malign me, you can arrest me and you can misrepresent
me. You can persecute me, you can subjugate me, you can lie about me and you
can scatter my household and my loved ones. You can vilify me, you can torment
me, you can jeer at me and you can mock me. You can sack my associates, you can
query my loyalists and you can cause my friends to flee the land.
You can humiliate those who stand for me, you can
pour scorn on those who love me, you can threaten those who speak for me and
you can bribe those who work for me. You can plan, you can scheme, you can
assign and you can direct and delegate destruction at my doorsteps and at my
gates. You can intimidate and torment and you can use your kingly power to
abuse and to destroy. You can do all these things yet ultimately you will fail
because, like all beastly tyrants, you have forgotten the power of God in all
your subterranean wickedness and in all your sinister schemes.


Let him plot and plan both night and day. Let him invoke strange spirits,
consult the stars, torture, detain, defame, destroy, charge, frame, kill and
maim. Let him “cry havoc” and let slip the horrific dogs of war. Let him break
and let him crush the very spirit of the people. Let him enslave the whole of
our nation and cower us all into silence and submission. Let him unleash his
kinsmen and cattle-rearers on the southern part of our country. Let him
engender the philosophy of Boko Haram. Let him turn us into cowards and
quislings, let him plunge us into darkness and let him bewitch our feeble
souls.
Holding on to power at all costs? That is nothing
new, Saul tried it and failed. Agag tried it and failed. Herod tried it and
failed. Pharaoh tried it and failed and so did Nero and Caligula and Jezebel
and countless others.
For the God that stopped them is still alive and
continues to rule in the affairs of men and He alone forges the destiny of
nations. And in all this know one thing: that you cannot break me, you cannot
kill me, you cannot defeat me and you cannot destroy me. This is because I am
anointed for greatness and I am truly blessed by He who sits above the circles
of the earth and by He who created all that is. The lines have fallen for me in
pleasant places and yea I have a goodly heritage. My future has been
established and decreed by the oracles of God. It has been inscribed in the
stars and it has been written in the books of heaven. It cannot be altered or
aborted by you or your invocations and spells and your wicked ways.
And yet perhaps you should know another: that your
end has already been decreed by the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the
God of Jacob and it is only a matter of time before it suddenly comes. For my
soul stands defiant against you. I defy you with all my being. My contempt for
you is resounding, for you are nothing but sickness and weakness and failure
and deceit and emptiness. You are nothing but the darkness that seeks the darkness,
both you and the Amalekite foundation from which you come.
My God has spoken and on His word I stand. My spirit
is lifted and it is filled with joy and strength. I stand and I fight because
my victory is assured. I stand and I fight because I despise the shame. I stand
and I fight because there is a greater tomorrow. I stand and I fight because I
will never bow before this beastly and deceitful tyrant. I stand and I fight
because I am who I am. I stand and I fight because my God is “a man of war”.
I stand and I fight because the Lord has steeled my
body, my spirit and my soul. I stand and I fight because the fewer the number,
the greater the share of honour. I stand and I fight because King David stood
and fought, and Gideon and Joshua and Jehu that went before him. So let the
sickly tyrant rant and rave. Let him do his very worse. Let him, like Nero,
play his fiddle whilst Rome burns and let him make merry in his wickedness and
inglorious ways.
Let him plot and plan both night and day. Let him
invoke strange spirits, consult the stars, torture, detain, defame, destroy,
charge, frame, kill and maim. Let him “cry havoc” and let slip the horrific
dogs of war. Let him break and let him crush the very spirit of the people. Let

We stand and we fight because the Lord
is our defence and the Holy One of Israel is our king and our God. We stand and
we fight because His word boldly asks, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine
that has chosen to defy the armies of the Living God?” We stand and we fight
because He goes on to affirm that “I have found David my servant and with my
holy oil have I anointed him”. We stand and we fight because His holy word
proclaims “who art thou o mountain before Zerrubabel? Thou shalt be made a
plain”.
If our God be for us, what can he possibly do? Our
God’s word says “who is he that sayest a thing and it cometh to pass when the
Lord God of Hosts has commanded it not?” It says “who is he that lays a charge
before God’s elect, is it not Christ that justifies?” It says “whose report
will you believe and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” It says
“who can separate us from the love of the Lord?” and that “nay, in all these
things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us”.
We stand and we fight because we are indeed “more than
conquerors”. We stand and we fight because tin pot tyrants come and go: they
are a dime a dozen, soon to be forgotten. We stand and we fight because heroes
and martyrs, even if they fall in their course, will always live forever. We
stand and we fight because we serve a mighty God who never fails and who will
never leave us or forsake us. We stand and we fight knowing that the victory is
ours. We stand and we fight for our honour, for our nation, for our women and
for our children. We stand and we fight with courage, strength, defiance and
joy knowing that though weeping may tarry in the night, “joy comes in the
morning”.
We stand and we fight because His word says “once
has it been spoken and twice have we heard that all power belongs to God and
the heavens do rule in the affairs of men”. We stand and we fight because we
have no other choice, for good will always triumph over evil and light will
always overcome the darkness in the end. We stand and we fight because we fear
not death, we fear not the tyrant and we fear not his gods and idols. We stand
and we fight because our God will always love us and through Him and by Him our
salvation is secure. We stand and we fight because we have been prepared for
war.
We stand and we fight because the Lord is our
defence and the Holy One of Israel is our king and our God. We stand and we
fight because His word boldly asks, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine that
has chosen to defy the armies of the Living God?” We stand and we fight because
He goes on to affirm that “I have found David my servant and with my holy oil
have I anointed him”. We stand and we fight because His holy word proclaims
“who art thou o mountain before Zerrubabel? Thou shalt be made a plain”.
We stand and we fight because we wax strong in battle.
We stand and we fight because we cannot be defeated. We stand and we fight
because we are not in the hands of men but rather we are under the power of
God. We stand and we fight because He is our shield, He is our glory and the
lifter of our heads. We stand and we fight because He will “pour out His wrath
upon the heathen that have not known Him and upon the kingdoms that have not
called upon His name.”
So let it be and so it is and yet until then, we
stand and we fight, we stand and we fight, we stand and we fight.

Innocent Idibia today, October 20, 2015 launched his biography titled  ‘A Very Good Bad Boy’. The event which was
held at Terra kulture, Victoria Island Lagos was attended by top-flight
personalities in the entertainment industry like Ali Baba, Richard Mofe-Damijo,
Tiwa Savage, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Segun Arinze, Tunde and Wunmi Obe, Sound Sultan, Teju Baby Face to
mention a few. Written and edited by Adekunle Ayeni, Publisher, Nigerian
Entertainment Today (NET), the 460-page book centres on his struggle and
success.

Emmanuel Emenike quits Super Eagles

Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike has called time on his international career. This news is coming two weeks after Lille goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama hung his boots for the national team. During his spell with the Super Eagles, the 28 year-old Al Ain FC Striker appeared in 37 games scored 9 goals won AFCON 2013 and became the tournament’s top scorer.

“No more Eagles career! “After 5 great years, I am happy to announce that I have put full-stop to my Nationa team career for the sake of national peace.” “Its a pleasure for me to have played for this great country. I never regretted it and I think its the best time to end it. Millions thanks to all the fans who have been very supportive during the good and bad times.” “I am very proud of my performance, I am proud of my team mates and I am very proud of the nation called ‘Nigeria’. My AFCON gold medal is a sign of great achievement, My AFCON topscorer award speaks a lot about my commitment and dedication to the team. Super Eagles is a camp not a family house, and it shouldn’t be a threat zone for any individual. I have done according to our national anthem. “All my dreams came true in the national team, I dreamt to win Nations Cup for Nigeria after 20-years, I dreamt to played at the World Cup as well as to make a name for myself… In the space of five years, I got them. I’m a winner! “For every dissapointing fans, maybe due to my inability to re-establish my goal scoring instinct for Super Eagles, I will like to say I’m sorry but the ones I had scored counted well for the team. As long as Nigeria remains, you and I will always remember the name ‘Emenike’. “Finally, I am happy to make a bow and continue supporting the team everytime. Up Eagles, God Bless Nigeria!
