Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder, John Mikel Obi has been named the Nigeria Player of the Year 2012 by readers of Goal.com Nigeria.

The 25 year-old who garnered a total of 36.8 % votes cast edged out team-mates; Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa, Reuben Gabriel and John Utaka who came second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

He was presented the award by veteran journalist and Chief Editor, Goal.com Nigeria, Ololade Adewuyi on Thursday at the Olympic Park Stadion, South Africa.

Mikel who has so far been impressive in the ongoing AFCON tournament disclosed to goal.com Nigeria that he wants to help his country overcome all obstacles on their way towards winning a third African title in South Africa.

LIVERPOOL'S STEVEN GERRARD WINS ENGLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

32 year-old Liverpool Steven Gerrard has for the second time won the Football Association's England player of the year award.

The England captain who received the award from Sir Bobby Charlton at a ceremony in Burton has however joined the likes of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard who have won the award twice.

Reacting to the honour; Gerrard said, "It means a lot to me when you look at the quality and standard of players in this squad. For me to be picked out to win an individual award is a bonus and something I'm really delighted with.

"It's always a proud feeling to play for this team and the manager believing in me and giving me the captaincy was a huge lift for my personal confidence. I think I've shown a level of consistency that maybe I haven't shown in previous years, so it's been a good year."

We all know singer Susan 'Goldie' Harvey and popular TV host, Denrele Edun have been besties for a long time. They keep each other company in soirees and if anyone has noticed, Denrele features in most of Goldie's music videos, including her new but recently banned 'Skibobo' video.

Anyways, the jolly good pals are taking their friendship to another height, they recently announced that they are working on a reality show. Scheduled to kick off this february, the show which has been titled 'Tru Friendship' is being produced by Tee Jays Star. It aims to focus on their lives as showbiz personalities.

MARIO BALOTELLI SEALS AC MILAN MOVE

Former Manchester City striker, Mario Balotelli has finally completed his move to Italian club, AC Milan having completed his medical tests. He however thanked his erstwhile teammates, manager and supporters for being great with him, “I will always have a very special place in my heart for City, it’s a great club with a great future, I thank them for all of their support of me. Maybe one day we will see each other again.”

“I spoke with Roberto before I went to speak to the players. We spoke for some time about lots of things. He was sad, and I was too. But it was a good conversation. I love Roberto, he has been very important for my career, and I will always thank him for having trust and faith in me.” He wrote on Manchester City’s website

Stephanie Okereke’s upcoming movie, ‘Dry’ aims to address the issue of Vesico Vaginal Fistula, a disease which always occur during child birth amongst women in the Northern part of Nigeria. 

she was once quoted thus, “I have decided to share their stories through ‘DRY’. It journeys into the heart-wrenching details of a culture not too many films dare to explore. The issue might seem controversial, but if it will set one girl free and open the minds of the people, and also instruct different bodies and individuals to take action, then the movie would have served its purpose.” she
