CANCER PATIENT, FUNMI LAWAL PASSES ON

Devastating! Three months after she had one of her arms amputated, 24 year-old Law graduate, Funmi Lawal, who was diagnosed of malignant sarcoma (bone cancer) in August 2012 is dead.

The cancer had spread to her lungs and she could no longer breathe without a respirator. She passed on this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

May her soul find repose

PAUL OF PSQUARE WELCOMES BABY BOY!

And so the baby boom continues. Paul of Psquare is now a father. His girlfriend, Anita put to bed lastnight at the United States.

Meanwhile his twin brother, Peter, already has two kids. The number of celebrities who or whose girlfriends/wives have put to bed this year is close to ten.

FAST-RISING ACTRESS, KEHINDE OLORUNYOMI-ODUKOYA WELCOMES FIRST CHILD

One year after tying the knot, fast-rising actress cum script writer, Kehinde Olorunyomi- Odukoya has put to bed a baby boy. She delivered on Sunday April 7 in Atlanta, USA.

The Domino series star wrote this on her facebook page, "One last push' she said and all I could hear was a baby crying. She raised  him up to me and said 'congratulations, it's a boy'. That moment I forgot the 24hr pain I had gone through, I forget about the aches in my legs, tears of joy filled my eyes and all I said was 'thank u Jesus'"

PROF. WOLE SOYINKA STARS IN DOCUMENTARY ON FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL

A 30-min documentary which chronicles the events that led to the January 2012 nationwide protest against fuel subsidy removal by President Goodluck Jonathan has been produced.

Titled "Fuelling Poverty" and produced by , award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Ishaya Bako, the film which features literary icon, Prof. Wole Soyinka combines real footage of committee hearings, forums, demonstrations and interviews with animated slides and simple graphics to create an altogether engaging experience.

The film was recently screened at the Lincoln Center theatre in New York and received a private showing at Sahara Reporters and Global Information Network in New York. The documentary according to Executive Producer Jude Ilo, has been received very well in Nigeria but TV stations have refused to air it.

NFF MAY CUT DOWN SUPER EAGLES' BONUSES

In an interview with a popular Nigerian sports newspaper, Complete Sports, a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation has disclosed that the NFF may slash Super Eagles' bonues by 50% because of their nose-diving finances.

The official who pleaded anonymity explained that, "The NFF is broke because we did not get what we asked for in our budget proposal and with sponsors not forthcoming, we have to cut down on so many things to be able to execute our programmes for the rest of the year,"

We proposed a budget of about N7 billion but we got an envelop for about N1.7billion which is a far cry from what we needed to successfully see our programmes through. Take for instance, we never knew we would win the Africa Cup of Nations and represent Africa at the Confederations Cup and we did not capture that in our budget.

He continued, "The only way out is for government to come to our aid with additional funds or we shall be forced to pay $5,000 as winning bonus to the Super Eagles instead of the current $10,000 they earn for a win. The 50 percent slash will also affect other national teams."
