FIFA Ban: Messi denies abusing official

Argentina soccer star, Lionel Messi has denied insulting a match official during Argentina’s 1-0 win over Chile last Thursday. The Barcelona forward who was hit with a four-match international ban by the FIFA’s disciplinary panel for verbally abusing Brazilian assistant referee Dewson Silva said his insults were directed to the air and not the official.
The 29 year-old  missed his side’s 0-2 defeat against Bolivia on Tuesday due to the ban, Messi insisted that he has been unfairly punished with the suspension as his insults were not at all directed at an official.
 
He was quoted on goal.com thus, “My sayings were never addressed to the assistant, but they were said to the air.” 
Messi will miss three more of  remaining four World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru.

Impossible to manage Barcelona or Arsenal – Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out ever managing Barcelona FC due to his link with Espanyol. Pochettino was spotted with Spanish club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu last week, sparking reports that he could replace coach Luis Enrique, who is stepping down at the end of the season.

The 45 year-old said, “I don’t like to speak about rumours, but it was true that I saw Bartomeu by coincidence in a bar in Barcleona, last Tuesday, I have known him for a long time before he became chairman of Barcelona. There were many people around us, who saw us to say hello and we spent five minutes together – that was the reality. You know the rumours after it’s impossible to stop, but I am an Espanyol supporter and I don’t speak too much.”

The Argentine has also shut the door on any potential move to the Emirates saying,  “If Daniel Levy sacked me in a few years, it would be impossible to manage Arsenal. In football it’s difficult to keep values, to stay loyal with heart and emotion. But, for me, it’s more important to be loyal. I am an Espanyol fan, I love Espanyol and now Tottenham. For me, it would be impossible one day to move to Arsenal. It would be impossible.”

Just so he knows, the internet never forgets incase he changes his mind.

Nigerian Pilot Makes History

In what can be described as an astounding feat, a Nigerian pilot; Ademilola ‘Lola’ Odujinrin has become the first African pilot in history to take Africa on its very first round-the-world solo flight. He completed the journey on Wednesday afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport. The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances.
Ademilola, a staff of Air Djibouti, completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began in September.
On his accomplishment, Ademilola said, “Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams. I want African children to think: ‘I can do this too!’ I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Air Djibouti’s Chairman, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, and Cardiff Aviation’s Chairman, Bruce Dickinson, who have supported me throughout this journey. Without them, this would not have been possible.”

Delegates who welcomed Lola on the tarmac at Dulles Airport  include Air Djibouti’s Chairman, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, and Cardiff Aviation’s Chairman, Bruce Dickinson, Others include the Ambassador of Djibouti to the United States, His Excellency, Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh; Senior Director of Strategic Planning for Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, Mr. Dawit Michael Gebre-ab; and Chief Operating Officer of Air Djibouti, Mr. Moussa Houssein.

'Even Jesus didn't please everyone'- Ronaldo sculptor defends statue

Emanuel Santos, the sculptor behind the widely criticized Ronaldo statue has defended his work, maintaining that he and the Real Madrid star are happy with it. The Airport in Madeira was officially renamed after the ex Manchester United star at a a ceremony which took place yesterday, but pictures of the 32 year-old’s bronze bust took the internet by storm with many suggesting that it resembles former Arsenal forward Niall Quinn or The Head from BBC television programme ‘Art Attack’ than Ronaldo.

Reacting to the comments, the Madeiran artist told Globo.com. “I was with his brother at Cristiano’s museum in Madeira and from the messages he sent, I could tell that he liked what he saw. He only asked for some wrinkles that gave him a certain expression in his face when he’s about to laugh to be changed. He said it made him look older and asked for it to be thinned out a bit to make it smoother and more jovial. But they gave it the go-ahead and they liked what they saw.”

He continued,“It is impossible to please the Greeks and Trojans. Neither did Jesus please everyone. This is a matter of taste, so it is not as simple as it seems. What matters is the impact that this work generated. There is always the possibility of making a difference, I was prepared for all this.”

He advised me to go and develop and prove who I am. He calls me every day and I get advice from him every time. From a young age I’ve dreamt of playing for Arsenal. I think God made it easy for me because that has been my dream team.”

Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo! Madeira Airport has been named after Ronaldo. (Photos)

Cristiano Ronaldo has had the Airport in his hometown of Madeira, the Madeira International Airport named after him. It is now called Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo. A new sign with the Portuguese’s face and name has been placed on the front of the airport.
 


Reacting to the huge honour, the La Liga star said, “Seeing my name being given to this airport is something very special, everyone knows that I am proud of my country and my country. I know some people do not agree, but I am not a hypocrite and I assume that some are here right now. We all have the right to have an opinion. I always prefer people who voice their positions to those who hide behind them.”
