Opinion: Dear Omotola, don't blame the media for calling your daughter sexy

This article, written by Osagie Alonge of http://thenet.ng is a response to Omotola’s memo to bloggers who tagged her daughter’s birthday pictures sexy and hot.

‘We may not be able to prepare the future for our children, but we can at least prepare our children for the future’ – Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Last week, Omotola Jalade-Ekiende went on a rant on social media in response to entertainment bloggers who described her daughter Meraiah Ekeinde as ‘Hot and sexy’. The Nollywood actress and 2013 Time Magazine Icon barked at online media, chastising them for visiting her 14-year-old daughter’s Instagram page, culling her photos and spreading them all over the internet.
‘Thank you to everyone who wished Meraiah a happy birthday. However, going to a 14 year old’s ‘private’ online accts to post her pictures for public viewing is totally inappropriate. Her father and I are horrified as parents and guardian that a minor’s picture can be paraded online as ‘hot’ ,’sexy’ etc.’, she wrote on her official Facebook page.
It should be noted that as at the time Meraiah’s photos were posted by bloggers, her Instagram account was set on ‘public’. Dear Omotola, I’d like to say that the media has done nothing, absolutely nothing wrong and do not owe you an apology for publicising your daughter’s photos. You should be the last person pointing fingers as it clearly shows you’ve scored a D minus in raising this cute kid..
Meraiah Ekeinde is four years away from adolescence but by merely studying her Instagram page, you’d be amazed at the kind of photos a 14-year-old girl puts up – we are talking sexualised seflies, showing off her ‘curves’, pouts, using hashtags like #StaySexy and posting memes containing vulgar language like the word ‘FUCK’.
I’m sure Meraiah means no harm and she is in the early stage of youthful exuberance but dear Omotola, do you approve of an underage turning up her sexiness in the eye of the public? Why hasn’t she been cautioned to take down these sexually suggestive photos? Why is it that you have failed to understand that Meraiah, a minor, has no business trying to act like your fellow desperate Nollywood actresses on social media? Instead, you choose to be horrified by the media calling her ‘Hot and sexy’, accusing them of intruding on you poor little girl’s privacy. Madam, you’ve got it all wrong. Are those photos ‘Hot and sexy’? Oh my, yes they damn are! It’s a shame that up till now, these photos haven’t been deleted. It’s a shame that you’ve asked the media to behave like adults and draw the line when you’ve not acted in the same faith.
In February 2012, US rapper Nas’ 18-year-old daughter Destiny Jones posted a box of condoms on her Instagram page. The media and community attacked Nas and his baby mama Carmen Bryan for the post which was subsequently taken off. Nas didn’t come out defending his daughter or attacking the media, he rather blamed himself on his song ‘Daughters’.
Dear Omotola, you always profess the idea of changing the world, it’s time to start from your house; clean it up.

2face debunks infidelity claims

Yesterday, a soft sell magazine, ‘Icon Weekly’ reported that music super-star, 2face Idibia is expecting his 8th child from a certain Lagos-based banker called Teniola. Excerpts from the story, “We gathered that Teniola, who hails from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been 2Face’s account officer for a long time now. Teniola, a graduate of University of Lagos might just be another victim of the pressures marketers in the banking sector face to lure customers with everything they have….The interesting part of the story is that 2Baba, as he’s fondly called, allegedly wants the pregnancy terminated! Our source revealed to us that he has been begging Teniola with a brand new car to get rid of the pregnancy and keep this scandal out of media radar.”
However, the multiple award-winning singer has taken to his twitter page to debunk the rumour. “@AfricanCelebSpy BE CAREFUL! Stop spreading lies. Everybody make una see fake blog @AfricanCelebSpy with fake news trying 2 soil my reputation. GOD go judge una. The whole world knows I’m an open book. If anything happen na me go first tell una. Ok make I give dem news, I don give 8 virgins belle. How about that. Infact I wan create one local government I just dey start.”

History of crossfires between Wenger and Mourinho.

Still on the Mourinho and Wenger matter. So, here’s a history of crossfires between the two coaches. And from the look of things both Managers are not ironing out their creases anytime soon.

August 2005
Wenger accuses Mourinho of being ultra-defensive. “I know we live in a world where we have only winners and losers, but once a sport encourages teams who refuse to take the initiative, the sport is in danger.”

October 2005
Jose does not take insults lying low, “Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have this big telescope to look into the homes of other people and see what is happening. Wenger must be one of them – it is a sickness.”

November 2005
Arsene lashes out at the Portuguese. “He’s out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes and not more intelligent.”

November 2005
Mourinho revisits old rivalries. “At Stamford Bridge, we have a file of quotes from Mr Wenger about Chelsea football club in the last 12 months – it is not a file of five pages. It is a file of 120 pages.”

April 2007

Wenger accuses Mourinho of being a chequebook manager. “If you would like to compare every manager you give each one the same amount of resources and say ‘you have that for five years’. After five years you see who has done the most.”

April 2008
Mourinho despite being sacked by Chelsea still finds time to continue the tirade, “The English like statistics a lot. Do they know that Arsene Wenger has only 50 per cent of wins in the English league?”

December 2013

Mourinho accuses Arsenal players of having a “tradition of crying”. “You know, they like to cry. That’s tradition. But I prefer to say, and I was telling it to the fourth official, that English people – Frank Lampard, for example – would never provoke a situation like that.”
January 2014

Wenger airs his view about Mourinho selling Juan Mata to Manchester United.
“Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week. I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen.”

January 2014
Jose overlooks Arsene’s complaint and insists the fixture is in Arsenal’s favour.
“Wenger complaining is normal because he always does. Normally he should be happy that Chelsea sold a player like Juan Mata, but this is a little bit his nature. I think what is not fair is that his team always has the best days to play.”
February 2014

Arsene Wenger’s response after Mourinho downplayed Chelsea’s chances of winning the title. “It is very open, only Chelsea can lose it now because they are in front and all the other teams can win it. I’ve always said many teams are in it and it will be very tight until the end.”

The acidic Mourinho reply the world is still talking about, “He is a specialist in failure. I’m not, If supposedly he is right and I’m afraid to fail, it’s because I haven’t failed many times. Maybe he’s right. Maybe I’m not used to failing. The reality is he is a specialist. Eight years without a piece of silverware, that’s failure. If I do that at Chelsea, eight years, I leave London and I don’t come back.”

Arsene is calm this time around but still drives his point home. “I won’t comment on silly disrespectful remarks, I never spoke about him in my press conferences and I won’t start. It’s more embarrassing for Chelsea than for me.”

The End….(Till another round comes up.lol)
