Love or Loathe them: Messi and Ronaldo break new records

There’s really no stopping for these two football enigmas; Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Ballon d’Or award-winners did not only melt the hearts of millions of fans this weekend with their sterling performances, they also broke new records.
The only goal in Madrid’s game against Malaga on Saturday was delivered by the current Ballon d’Or winner; keeping Real Madrid on top of the Liga table. That’s not all, the Portuguese has also become the first player to score at least 25 league goals in five consecutive seasons in La Liga. #pureclass
His Barcelona nemesis, also stamped his signature in the history books. The Argentine officially became the greatest goal scorer in FC Barcelona history after netting in his 370th career goal in his 452nd match in the 63rd minute of his club’s game with Osasuna. He’s also surpassed Paulino Alcántara record which he made as far back as 1927.#phenomenal
Once again, Love or Loathe them, we can’t stop talking about these ’round leather’ greats.

AC Milan legend labels Mario Balotelli a real failure

Oops! we know Mario Balotelli could be dramatic on pitch but performance wise he’s trying his best. To AC Milan legend, Jose Altafini he’s nothing short of a failure, doesn’t learn from mistakes and cannot be relied upon. Analysing AC Milan’s performance which hasn’t really been too impressive this season, Altafini feels the Italian international takes the greatest share of the blame and not the current CEO Adriano Galliani.
“The real failure is Balotelli. Adriano has done what he could. By now, it’s no longer a surprise. He just continues always doing the same things. In my opinion, he doesn’t need to be given any more importance, in the expectation and the hope that he will eventually be able to figure something out. The great players distinguish themselves through character and their personality. Well, not in his case. Just compare him with Kaka. I don’t know if selling him is the best solution. The truth is that Milan, in the condition they find themselves in, still need him. Better to wait until the end of the season and then make a decision.”

Yaya Toure on Jose Mourinho. "He talks more than before"

I really don’t know the correlation between his team’s recent defeat at the UEFA Champions League and Jose Mourinho’s input. Manchester City midfielder, who insisted the game would have favoured them if a “good referee had officiated” has slammed Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho for always talking about everyone. (coaches, players and teams I guess)
According to Marca, the three time CAF award-winner said, “I think he talks more than before, perhaps because the English press likes it. He is a coach and he must give respect a little bit. He is always talking about everyone and that is not the correct way. That is why Barcelona always beat Madrid when Mourinho was here in Spain.”

Short Story: Helpless | By: Oluwafunminiyi Omojola

She sat on the edge of the bed and watched him snore. He had had a long journey back home from America where he lived with his wife of two years. She had not seen him in the last fifteen years, not since they left high school and he had left with his mother. She did not even attend his wedding; she had been too mad, too sad.

She looked at him and smiled. He hadn’t changed much; and as she packed her hair into the wispy bun that he favored, the one that made her feel ten and innocent all over again, she thought how funny a little thing like a hairstyle could help wipe away a truck load of guilt, even if only for a while. She listened to the hum of his snore, and images from minutes ago flashed through her mind once again.
She could not explain what had happened. She did not even want to try. It had felt oddly exciting being alone with him after so many years, and when he had asked her to hug him, she had been too scared to, too afraid they might travel back fifteen years in time with just that simple gesture. Yet when minutes later, she had found herself allowing him drown himself in the pools of pleasure which she unquestioningly opened up to him, her fears had been eternally confirmed by the intensity of their passion.

“Why are you shy? Look at me joo,” he had joked afterwards, trying to make her face him. She wanted to tell him to stop, and allow her develop the confusing blueprints flying about in her head, but she did not say anything. Instead, she stuck to the bed sheets and refused to be drawn away. And after he had curled up to her and whispered to her how she had been sweeter than he remembered, and a hundred times more passionate than the cold fish that their father had made him marry in the name of cementing a ‘lifelong family friendship’ and retaining his pride of place as the ‘scion of the dynasty’, (a termed he scoffed at only in theory), he had dozed off; and she had jumped out of the bed, picked up her clothes, locked herself in the sanctuary of the bathroom and cried her soul out.
And this was how she emerged: decided, stronger, and more confident.
As wrong as he was for her, as much as he was her younger brother even if only from the same father, she knew now for certain that she was in love with him still, as much as he had always been with her.
She knew now that she was his apple, that she would never be able to help being devoured in secret until the wells of their passion ran dry – if it ever could.
All she needed to do was afterwards, tie her hair up in the wispy bun he always admired when they were still children – and everything would be just fine again.
