Movie veteran, Patience Ozokwor to launch 3 business outfits

I don’t think there are actors/actresses who don’t have other streams of income asides acting. Maybe very few of them. Nollywood movie veteran, Patience Ozokwor has also joined the growing list of actors investing in other businesses.

Known for her controversial roles (wicked mother/mother-in-law) Mama Gee as fondly called will be launching her three new business outfits; a salon, restaurant and boutique on 29th March 2014. The place is called Wendy’s Place, the event will take place at House 3, Coal City Garden Estate, Enugu.

Court nullifies Lekki-Ikoyi bridge toll

This good news is coming less than 24 hours after a Federal High Court in lagos nullified the imposition of new number plates on motorists. The same court has also nullified the collection of toll on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge. Lagos residents who ply that route can now drive off without contacting their wallets/parting with their money.

Justice Saidu J, the presiding judge over the suit stated that only the Federal Government has the power of control over all navigable waterways in Nigeria and from all the documents made available to the court, the only justification for the toll fee on the bridge by Lagos State is the private partnership law.

He added that the law could not apply to the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge since it was built solely with the Lagos State Government money without the involvement of any private partnership. “Thus, since there is no law supporting the toll fee, it is illegal and should be stopped forthwith”, Justice Saidu concluded.

Ebun Adegboruwa, human rights lawyer who filed the suit commended the judge for the verdict and also implored citizens to challenge other illegal charges/taxes in court.

“This judgment should be an elixir to all Nigerians to challenge in the court, all illegal taxes and arbitrary charges in the name of road tax, PHCN metre maintenance charge, estimate bills without electricity etc.”

Photos: Between Joseph Yobo and his former Landlord

Ray Smith, the former Landlord of former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo is angered at the moment. According to him, the Liverpool flat which he leased out to the Nigerian international is not only in a state of disrepair but the estimate of the damages is about 5,000 pounds.

“The state it’s been left in is just unbelievable. There’s bond money of 1,500 pounds but by the look of it, it will need 5,000 pounds to put all the damage right and I will have to call in industrial cleaners. There are iron marks on the floor, as if left by ironing, and holes in the wall left by flat-screen TVs.

I’ve never come across anything like this before and I’m just so shocked. The place looks as if it’s been burgled.”

The former Everton player while speaking with reporters maintained that although the apartment was rented by his brother Gideon and leased in his name, he never lived there. The 33 year-old who is currently on loan in Norwich from Fenerbahce is also willing to pay for all the damages.

“It’s my name on the lease, but I never lived at the flat and I’ve never even been there. The landlord doesn’t know me and he hasn’t spoken to Gideon about this. I have property too and the landlord should have gone to the letting agents if he was unhappy. If he puts in a full inventory, Gideon is ready to pay for anything that is damaged.”

Boldfaces presenter, Tricia Esiegbe Kerry partners with The Nigerian Police Force for 'The Psychologist'.

Making impact where it matters most! Famous TV presenter and anchor, BoldFaces, Tricia Eseigbe-Kerry has partnered with the Nigerian Police Force for her public awareness campaign project on child sexual abuse and molestation titled, The Psychologist. The aim of the advocacy project is to expose sexual predators within Nigeria, to create a support platform for victims of child molestation and to get the authorities to do more in supporting our children. 

Both Inspector-General of Police, MD Abubakar and Tricia Eseigbe Kerry, represented The Nigeria Police Force and The Psychologist team respectively during the partnership announcement meeting at The Nigeria Police Force head quarters, Louis Edet House, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

The IG of police commended The Boldfaces International team for such a wonderful project and its mission to fight against child sexual offenders within our communities. He also instructed all 36 state commissioners of police and 12 DIG’s to work closely and give all the necessary support to The Psychologist team nationwide.

He was also presented with Boldfaces special award of excellence, for his immaculate work since assumption of office, he has worked tirelessly to reposition the Nigerian Police and to restore public confidence in the Force, a similar award was presented to Austin JayJay Okocha in 2008 when he retired from playing football.

The Psychologist-  On The Move, with this partnership is set to launch its planned  celebrity Road show campaign and will also visit schools nationwide, and hold town hall meetings in every state across Nigeria to Educate people about ways to protect our young and vulnerable children from sexual abuse.

On Opportunities, Closed Doors And Airplanes | By: Naomi Lucas

 

There will come a time in your life when you will be swamped with opportunities. Everywhere you turn, it will seem like there is money to be made, happiness to be found; glory waiting. Be careful, be discerning. Not all opportunities should be taken. Shut some windows deliberately ‘cos the path may lead you in the exact opposite direction from where you ought to be.

 

There will come a time in your life when it seems like the universe itself has conspired with other forces to frustrate you. Everywhere you turn, you’ll see 10 closed doors before you see an open window. Do not despair. In every misfortune is a huge lesson waiting to be learned. It is in hardship that stamina is built. Character forged in the midst of lack cannot be shaken amidst plenty.

 

There will come a time when you honestly believe you can fly; believe you can be a million and one things and excel at them all.  It is true and it is not. Choose your options carefully. Engage only when victory is assured – to a certain degree. Make a personal commitment to excel at the options you have chosen. Do not spread yourself too thin and do not let anyone make you doubt.

 

There will come a time you may decide to dent the universe. Time and chance may collide and present you the perfect opportunity. Take it. While you contemplate however, there will be some who believe your dream is too ambitious. And they will mean well. Do not listen. Some things are never meant to be done at a micro level. Sometimes, the options may be all or nothing. Go ahead and do it. The only way to build an airplane is to build one, not set up an airplane spare parts factory.

D'banj, Femi Kuti, 17 others collaborate on 'ONE' track

19 of Africa’s hottest artistes are working on an exciting music project for one.org‘s the DO AGRIC campaign. The artistes are coming together to rebrand agriculture and tell African youths that their future is literally beneath their feet. They will be using their voices to inspire action and tell political leaders that the time has come to adopt better agricultural policies that will boost productivity, increase incomes, and help lift millions of Africans out of extreme poverty.
The song which has been titled ‘Cocoa ‘na Chocolate’ was co-produced by Cobhams Asuquo and DeeVee of DB Records and directed by Asuquo / Godfather Productions. ONE and some of the artistes will be in Lagos to launch the song across radio networks around the continent. The music video will be launched on 3 April 2014.

Court declares new number plates illegal

This is the best news since sliced bread. If you’ve been saving up for months to get the new number plates by FRSC, kindly invest the money in any business of your choice, go shopping or something. The Federal High court in Lagos has declared the New FRSC plate number illegal.

Prior to this verdict, a lawsuit was made by a certain lawyer, Emmanuel Ofoegbu, who challenged the powers of FRSC to impound vehicles of motorists who failed to acquire the new number plates. In his ruling today, March 26, 2014, Justice James Tsoho, stated that it was unlawful for the respondent to impose the new number plates on motorists, where there was no existing law permitting same.

“The issue of redesigning new number plates by the respondent is not covered under the provisions of any law in Nigeria. The respondent cannot force Nigerians to acquire new number plates by impounding cars, without the backing of any legislation to that effect. I hold that the act of the respondent amounts to an arbitrary use of power, and is therefore illegal and unconstitutional. Judgment is, therefore, entered in favour of the plaintiff, and all the reliefs sought are hereby granted, I so hold,” he said.
