Nigerian actor lands Terminator role

Dayo Okeniyi is not your regular Nollywood actor. Infact, I can’t remember seeing him in any Nigerian movie before (well, maybe he acted in few ones, I’m not really sure) but he does more of Hollywood movies. The 25 year-old who starred in The Hunger Games and The Spectacular has landed a role in the new Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genesis.
The Jos-born actor who kicked off his acting career four years ago will be playing the role of Danny Dyson, the son of Skynet scientist Miles Dyson who was in Terminator 2. The movie will be released by July 1, 2015.

"Absolute Nonsense " Segun Arinze replies Clarion Chukwura.

Actor and former AGN President, Segun Arinze has described actress Clarion Chukwura’s recent comment on Ibinabo Fiberesima’s political appointment as absolute nonsense. You would recall that the veteran actress called for the AGN President’s resignation after learning of her appointment on the board of the National Arts and Culture.
“Absolute Nonsense! AGN Presidency doesn’t stop her from taking any appointment. Moreso its not a full time job that will distract her from her duties. Its a board appointment.  Please Ibinabo should be left alone  to do her job. And she’s doing a great job so far. What’s the Genesis of all this idle talk?  Let’s focus our energies in the right direction. Abeg make I hear word!!! Enough of this attention seeking statement. The graves just turned and grizzly ghouls are suddenly stirring everywhere!”

Photos: Ex-Super Eagles players wallop Nollywood stars 4-0 in awareness campaign match.

Forget it! Once a footballer, always a footballer. What were Nollywood stars thinking? That they could beat the African legends? Try harder! Albeit they hung their boots a long time ago, they are still effective.
An awareness campaign match hosted by the Human Rights Commission and aimed at promoting human and civil rights of individuals was held yesterday, Friday 28th March, 2014 at Abuja. The game which was between Nollywood stars and retired Super Eagles player ended in 4-0 in favour of the African legends.
Ex footballers who participated in the match include National team coach, Stephen Keshi; Taribo West, Peter Rufai, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Mutiu Adepoju, Emmanuel Amunike, Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi, Alloy Agu to mention a few. Clarion Chukwura takes a swipe at Ibinabo Fiberesima, calls for her resignation as AGN President.

Veteran actress, Clarion Chukwura has vented her disappointment at members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) who paid a courtesy visit to President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja few weeks ago. In a statement made available to Vanguard newspaper, she described the visit as uncalled for, blamed actors who registered their presence and also called for the resignation of the AGN President, Ibinabo Fiberesima.

“I read with dismay the address of president of AGN, Miss Ibinabo Fiberisima on a recent visit with some notable actors and AGN officials to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. It is alarming to discover from this address, the false claims by Ibinabo that the Actors Guild of Nigeria is the only umbrella body of Nigerian screen actors; that President Goodluck Jonathan has by the “constant release of funds” effected a sustained development of the Nigerian movie industry since the inception of his administration; that an AGN Secretariat located in Abuja and political appointments for actors would advance the welfare of the Nigerian screen actors.

While it is not surprising that Ibinabo would display such a lack of knowledge of what advances screen actors professionally in the developed world since she has not functioned consistently as an actor and has less than ten titles to her credit in a career spanning from the late eighties. They watched in compliance, the denigration of the integrity of Nigerian screen actors, as she read her requests literally begging for crumbs from the president’s table. For her brazen use of a Guild created to serve the creative interests of a group to gain political appointment while in office, I enjoin her to follow the respectable road of her predecessors by joining the PDP and testing the real value of her self-earned popularity as an actress for political appointment”

Photos: Wrong one – Moyes out! Manchester United fans set to fly banner over Old Trafford.

Oh dear! Hell hath no fury like some fans frustrated. There are reports that some Manchester United fans have paid to hire a plane to fly over Old Trafford on Saturday displaying a banner calling for David Moyes’ sack. A press release detailing their complaints and reasons for the actions have been issued through Man United forum Red Issue.
Excerpts from the release.
“The decision to fly a plane over Old Trafford bearing the slogan ‘Wrong One: Moyes Out’ is one borne out of acute frustration. It is frustration at the poor results, lack of fight on the pitch and the unavoidable signs that David Moyes isn’t up to the highest standards required to manage Manchester United Football Club. A significant proportion of Manchester United fans have had enough and unequivocally want David Moyes sacked. Further frustration has been created from the inaccurate perception that all Manchester United fans are behind David Moyes……..”

Singer, Zara Gretti passes on at age 28

Heard the news an hour ago but was hoping it was untrue. Fast-rising Nigerian-American singer, Margaret Oluwatoyin Ejiro Joseph, popularly known as Zara Gretti has passed on. The ‘Abokoku’ crooner who had been battling with Multiple Sclerosis for over a year now breathed her last this morning. Her last tweet (posted yesterday) was “I love and hate my life”.
Before her death, she disclosed via her twitter account months ago that she was experiencing poor vision in both eyes and suffering from memory loss, fatigue, dizziness, tremors to mention a few. She was receiving treatment in the US. I also remember an online charity fund account was opened for her treatment which was put at $23,000.
Sad! Sad!!!
May her soul find repose. Amen!

Keshi gets query letter from NFF. (Read)

For a minute I thought the query was all about his choice of players/ his rejection of foreign assistant for the forthcoming World Cup but it has nothing to do with it. Well, there’s been a strain in relationship between both parties i.e NFF and Stephen Keshi since AFCON 2013 victory.
For failing to attend a technical committee meeting and boycotting an event hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan, reception for the CHAN 2014 squad to be precise, the Nigerian Football Federation has issued a query letter to the national coach. Excerpts from the letter.

“It is important we draw your attention to previous actions whereby you travelled out of Nigeria without NFF’s express permission. Specifically, you travelled out of Nigeria before 13 February 2014, the day President Jonathan received the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team, causing us huge embarrassment.

“Your request for leave approved by the NFF was from 15 February – 10 March 2014 but you left before 13 February and returned 26 March. The Technical Committee meeting on 25 March was called off because you said you had flight hitches from USA. As a responsible organisation, we have no other option than to issue you a query to explain how all these events unfolded.”
