Writer, publicist and the late Zara Gretti’s former manager, Toni Payne has written an heart-felt tribute to the late singer who passed on on March 28, 2014 after a long time battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Zara was buried yesterday, April, 4, 2014 at the Ikoyi Cemetary. May her soul continue to find repose. (Amen)

Daddy Showkey on why he's been on dreads for the past 22 years.

 
So veteran artiste, Daddy Showkey has been wearing dreads for the past 22 years? That’s pretty long. The Galala singer has an answer for those who have been asking/ would love to see him wear a new look. Here’s what he told PUNCH in a recent interview.
“I have had this dread for over 22 years. I don’t have to be a reggae musician to wear dreads. Reggae is from Jamaica, galala is Nigerian. There are reggae musicians that don’t have dreadlocks. My own dreadlock is a vow between me and God. I told God that if I, a nobody from Ajegunle,  become someone that the world would know, I would not cut my hair again. It is a vow that I made. Many people do it for fashion but I don’t do it for fashion. God has kept his side of the vow, so it is left for me to keep my part of the vow. “

Music: Tim Godfrey& Xtreme- Lai Lai

Multiple award-winning music artiste, Tim Godfrey and his XTREME crew have released another excellent single titled LaiLai. Remember they released two singles, AMEN and Good Morning in February and March 2014 respectively . 
 
The new song LAI LAI is coming ahead of his much anticipated double worship albums tagged iWorsip and The Audience of One. The two worship albums are billed to drop by May 2014. And it’s a 2-in-1 project, “I WORSHIP THE AUDIENCE OF ONE”.
However, based on massive demand worldwide, the Agidigba crooner who is currently on a short tour of the United States of America has decided to release a song randomly from the anticipated five albums coming soon. One song will be released each Friday of the month of April. Keep your fingers crossed because you definitely have not seen the last of this creative mind and his fantastic crew.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi to honour 4 Nollywood veterans at BON Awards

Four Nollywood veterans; Liz Benson-Ameye, Adebayo Salami, Nobert Young and Kasimu Yero will be given special recognition awards for their immense achievement in the Nigerian Movie Industry christened Nollywood. The awards will be conferred on them by the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi at the 6th edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards which comes up on October 4th 2014 at Rivers State.

Speaking on the choice of the four seasoned thespians, BON awards Executive Producer, Seun Oloketuyi stated that revealed that “after much deliberation and research, these four came as the best choices for this award category because of their outstanding impacts in Nollywood and for being a source of inspiration to youths in Nigeria and Africa generally.”

ELIZABETH BENSON

Elizabeth Benson, popularly known as Liz Benson, began acting when she was five years old. She is loved by most movie watchers in Nigeria and is seen as one of the first ladies of Nollywood. Her journey to stardom began when she appeared on the set of the popular television soap opera, Fortunes in 1993. Liz Benson played the part of Mrs. Agnes Johnson in the soap, which ran for about two years on the Nigerian Television Authority network. In 1994, her role in Glamour Girls, a very successful home video film that focused on the theme of prostitution, literally changed her fortune after Fortunes.


The movie shot her into prominence and gradually she warmed her way into the minds of millions of Nigerian movie fans. Sometime ago, she quit acting, became a born-again Christian and started preaching the gospel. Some of her roles include her role as Titubi in Femi Osofisan’s Morountodun and as Mrs. Agnes Johnson in Fortunes, a soap opera that ran for about two years on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel 10. She acted in a number of Nollywood video-films such as Evil Men 1 and 2, Shame, Conspiracy, Izaga, Burden, Stolen Child, Faces, Dead End, Tycoon, Glamour Girls, Body of Vengeance and a horde of other movies.
 
 

 


KASIMU YERO

Veteran actor Kasimu Yero is fondly remembered for his role as ‘Uncle Gaga’ in the now rested ’80s situational comedy, Cock Crow At Dawn, and as one of the lead characters in Abubakar Imam’s Magana Jari Ce. Today, he is older, more rested and taking things easy, but back in the days, he was one of the actors who dominated the region and entertained the populace with his ability to interpret humorous scripts.
Yero was born in Zaria some 64 or 65 years ago. But when he became of school-age, he was taken from Zaria City to his grandfather in Kaduna. At that time, his grandfather Mallam Mohammed Sambo, was the Magajin Gari of Kaduna. It was while the young Yero was with him that he had the opportunity of going to primary school. Ironically, his school was located somewhere around where the present-day Fire Brigade headquarters is in Kaduna Nobert Young

 


NOBERT YOUNG
 
Crossover actor par excellence, and star of countless DStv-sponsored productions including, Edge of Paradise; Norbert Young, trained in both the University of Ibadan and University of Benin. He is regarded as one of the best-trained movie role interpreters in Nollywood. Long before the advent of home video, the Warri, Delta State-born thespian, has always been a delight to watch on screen.

Many television viewers, especially those who followed rested soap opera, Checkmate, would readily recall his face as the randy lecturer, Professor Okon. Norbert Young was part of the detective drama series, Third Eye, which ran in the 1980s and today regarded as one of the versatile veteran actors who has contributed immensely to the growth of Nollywood.

Adebayo Salami, a.k.a Oga Bello, has been on stage for 49 years. Not once has he given retirement a thought, he started acting with Young Stars Concert Party in 1964 when he was 12 years old. The group metamorphosed to Ojo Ladipo Theatre. So far,he has produced about 17 films. The first movie he produced was Ogun Ajaiye under the stables of Awada Kerikeri in 1985. In 1987, I produced Omo Orukan and in 1989, Eri Okan and all of these were on celluloid.

Your modelling portfolio has a “voice”. It’s all about setting good standards, creating great impressions and then connecting with the right people.
Before putting together a modelling portfolio, it is important to know what type of modelling you can do. A portfolio of a Freelance model would probably include a variety of different types of photos, while a portfolio of a high fashion model would have high fashion images, and so on. So be realistic from the very onset of your career to avoid any setbacks or rejections due to the fact that you are attempting to enter a type of modelling that is not best suited for you.
You should know that your modelling portfolio is a true first impression of yourself as a model. A portfolio will always be the first thing that agencies and clients look at before they even choose to see you in person. And for that reason, it is highly recommended to focus on the building of an impressive modelling portfolio that will enable you to establish a successful career as a model. Pay attention to the quality of the photos you choose to include in your portfolio. These photos need to impress agencies and clients alike and make you stand out from the rest. So always aim to project the best possible image of yourself.
Here are a few things to remember when building a modelling portfolio:
(1) It is better to have fewer photos that are great, than having more photos that are of poorer quality. So the rule of thumb is that less is more. As a new model, your portfolio should have 6 – 12 photos, especially when you are presenting yourself to a new agency. As an established model, your portfolio should ideally have anywhere between 10 and 25 photos.
(2) Always keep in mind that the purpose of a modelling portfolio is not only to show your good looks, but it should also demonstrate your ability to portray different characters, age ranges and personality. For this reason you should include good headshots without makeup, these are called Polaroids. It’s also important to have good body shots, with swimwear or tight-fitting clothes, especially if you plan to apply to the larger model markets.
(3) In terms of the type of photos to include in your model portfolio, there are no specific rules that you should follow, but just remember to keep your portfolio as professional as possible by only including high quality photos. Do not feel pressured to include pictures where you are in a swimsuit or lingerie, unless that is the type of modelling you want to work in. As long as you know what type of modelling you are looking to do, that should be enough to give you some direction as to what kind of pictures to include.

"Keshi can do without me at the World Cup" – Osaze Odemwingie

Stoke City forward, Osaze Odemwingie strongly believes that the national team coach, Stephen Keshi can do without him at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup. This is coming few weeks after the Nigerian international mended bridges with the coach.
Many have suggested on various sports platforms that since the Super Eagles player who’s presently in an incredible form has done the needful and tendered his apology to Keshi, he deserves to be included in the World cup team. According to them, form is more important than attitude. Chiefly, Nigeria needs players who can add value to the team and make impact in the tournament.
The father of one told BBC Sport, “I have been speaking with the coach, it’s the only right thing to do. I had to be humble and make a step forward towards my senior colleagues. You can’t continue to stay in that angry state of mind. Staying in that state, it’s not the right thing to do. It’s never helpful for anyone
It was very disappointing at the time, it was hard to accept it. I had a strong feeling that it was Nigeria’s time to win it. I was as frustrated as any other player. For me to hear that was very important on a human level. It’s not about people, its always about the country. We’re all defending the colours of our nation.
Coach Keshi can do without me at the World Cup and my life will go on as well, but the most important thing is mutual respect. Now I know how he does things and how he wants things done and vice versa.”

The New York Film Academy (NYFA) and Video Hit Show (VHS) skit competition I talked about on Monday has been cancelled. One of the organizers pulled the plug. Here’s an official statement by the Video Hit Show Team.
 
“We are sorry to announce the cancellation of VHS 2 NYFA skit competition. The reason we are cancelling the competition is because NYFA pulled out due to their internal complications. 
Our intention is to create an avenue for upcoming actors and filmmakers to showcase their work and also get better training. That dream has being delayed, but NOT KILLED. We promise to keep working on better ways to bring value to the aspiring actor or filmmakers.

2014 World Cup: Solid star named Super Eagles Ambassador

The Nigerian Football Supporters Club have named dreadlocked hip-hop singer, Joshua Iniyezo, fondly called Solidstar Super Eagles ambassador for the 2014 World Cup. Solid star who gained prominence in 2010 for his hit single “One in a Million” will also record and perform the official Super Eagles theme song for the tournament.

Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, President, The Nigerian Football Supporters Club stated that the choice of the singer was borne out of the need to select ” someone who was passionate about Nigerian football and who had that gyration in his voice and who the new and old generation can relate to and it was just Solidstar that came to mind.”

Style Struck: How to tie the knotted wrapper (Photos)

Fashion buffs/Fashion forward ladies would agree that the knotted wrapper trend is going or has gone viral now. Virtually everyone on planet earth has caught up with the trend. It looks kind of complicated but surprisingly tying is very easy. I adore it because it’s a departure from the regular Iro and Buba tying that we are all used to. It’s stylish, unique and looks amazing on the wearer. Below is a step-by-step procedure.
STEP 1: Get a wrapper,wide enough for your hip size and long enough (depends on your taste.)
STEP 2: Spread your legs, (this would enable you move freely after the wrapper has been tied), then begin the tying process.
STEP 3: Pull the two ends together in front of you, holding one end in each hand.
STEP 4: Crisscross the two ends into each other or make a loop with the wrapper end in your left hand and put the wrapper end in your right hand through this loop.
STEP 5: Tie both ends at your back.
Voila! Get ready to partyyyyyyyyyy!
