Juju maestro-turned-Evangelist, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has become a Professor of music at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. The announcement was made in an event which was held in his honour yesterday 7th July 2014, at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall, Main Campus of the university. As a visiting artiste in the Department of English &Performing Arts/Professor of music the multiple award-winning Nigerian music legend is expected to take students through the pros and cons of music.

Fashion University to be named after President Goodluck Jonathan
If I were to read your minds, the first question that would probably pop out of your minds is , Is President Goodluck Jonathan a fashion icon? Or what’s the correlation. In recognition of his achievements, The World Fashion Organisation (WFO) has named the proposed World Fashion University which is to be situated in Bayelsa State after Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan. It will now be called Goodluck Jonathan World Fashion University.
According to Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson, the University will boast of facilities like a research centre, amphitheatre, faculty of social sciences, conference centre, textile plant building and sports complex, to mention a few.

13 Nigerian banks have made the list of top 1,000 banks in the world. This is the second year in a row that the banks will achieve this feat. According to Kunle Ogedengbe, The Country Representative of The Banker Magazine, the share number of local banks that made the ranking “underlines Nigeria’s number one position in Africa, as no other African country has up to 13 lenders in the Top 1,000 World Banks.”

"I have to feed my kids in the university." Stephen Keshi opens up on contract renewal
Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has finally opened up on his contract renewal. According to him, he’s willing to stay if he gets a good offer and better condition. “But if the offer isn’t good enough for me, then I will explore other options and possibly move on to another challenge, It’s always a good thing when you experience other climates,”.
The former Nigerian defender continued, “My previous contract was never respected. I was paying one of my assistants (Valere Houandonou) for over a year, my former assistant Sylvanus Okpala was sacked without my consent and those things just never made sense. “I mean Nigeria is my country and I love my country, but I’m out of contract now so I have to move on.
I have spent over two years as coach of Nigeria, and Nigeria flows in my veins but I just have to move on. “If the offer comes, we will sit down and talk and if there’s something concrete, then we’ll see how it goes. I have several offers but it’s South Africa that have been very vocal about their offer, so that’s the way it is.
” I’ve given my heart to Nigeria, I have done it for the country for years. I played as a captain of the national team for 14years so this isn’t about heart anymore. It’s now about professionalism, I am a professional football coach and that is all I do. I have kids in the university that I have to feed and I can’t do that by ‘heart’. Doing the ‘heart’ thing cannot work anymore, because that isn’t going to put food on my table.” He concluded.
Nigerians to start paying to view television content
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, at the Extra Ordinary meeting of the National Council of Information held in Abuja few days ago stated that Nigerians will start paying to view television content. As the deadline for Nigeria’s migration to digital terrestrial television broadcasting draws near, Nigerian authorities will soon introduce content access fees to replace radio licence fees.
“For a long time radio licences have not been collected and in other countries the public broadcast services are run from fees collected on broadcast content. But unfortunately in our country, the existing constitutional provision has made fee collection less effective. Now, we are undertaking a new format. We are taking advantage of the digital technology and looking beyond sending people to go from place to place to collect fees for broadcast content,” he said.
The advantages of this include; improved financial capability for stakeholders to improve content and upgrade infrastructure, access to adequate funds for sustained upgrade of their infrastructure for effective service delivery for Nigeria Broadcasting Commission and other stakeholders.
He continued, “We are here because we are approaching the deadline and Nigeria must transit. We must do everything possible, we must work 24 hours to ensure that our country is not cut-off from the rest of the world.”

Wow! It is really good to be good! Stand-up Comedian Bovi narrates his experience as Personal Assistant to actor-turned-politician Richard Mofe Damijo, for two years (2004 – 2006) as the latter turns a year older today. He wrote on his instagram page.
“Fresh out of school via NYSC, I had come to Lagos with just a bag. Squatting with my uncle who was a squatter, I dusted my scripts and headed to my appointment with nolywood icon, RMD. He leaned back on his swivel chair and crossed his legs on his table. It was the cleanest pair of mokasin shoes I had ever seen. In my mind I was before a “god”. Tell me about yourself, he said. I mumbled my family history unfluently. Any hopes of selling my scripts to him fizzled when he pointed to a corner in his office that had about a hundred scripts. I wasn’t the only one trying to sell scripts. He promised to read mine and that he did. To fulfill all righteousness he took me to meet potential buyers on movie sets. One of such buyers, a director, ripped my story and made a movie years down d line.
After four weeks of escorting RMD on set, he said “I’m looking to hire a PA. If you think you fit the profile go home and think about it and let me know on Monday.” My answer was immediate, “I don’t need to go think. I can do it” “then resume on Monday”. And PA I was for two years and six months but what I came out with, the things I learned from his direct teachings is what u describe as d polishing of diamond. He have me a book and said “Bovistus, if you read this book it would seem like you have a masters without d certificate.” And that book was ” the 22 immutable laws of branding”. And it was true.
Once I asked him, how do you cope with the attention and the fame? He replied ” ignore it. Or you will just die”. Once I asked him “when does one cement his status as an entertainer” and he said ” you are only as good as your last performance. There is no holiday on this job. If you flop in your next outing, that’s the one people will remember”. Once I asked him why a favorite big brother Nigeria character had been shockingly evicted, he smiled, looked me in the eyes and said “whenever you start from the top, there’s only one place to go; down”.
These are few of the very many life changing advice that where handed down to me. More than silver and gold. And I appreciate them forever. Well, all I’ve been trying to say is ” happy birthday to the legend, Richard Mofe-Damijo.
