Most stolen electronic devices in South Africa malls head to Nigeria

According to reports by South Africa’s police, most electronic devices especially cellphones, stolen during robberies in South Africa’s malls (mostly Gauteng and the Western Cape) find their way to Nigeria. And some of these robberies were carried out by several groups.

“The service providers have confirmed that the majority of the items are activated in Nigeria. The recipients use courier services to send the items to Nigeria.” Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale revealed.

Toba Falode & Oyamuyefa Alameiyeseigha's deaths: Sports broadcaster, Aisha Falode writes President Goodluck Jonathan

The heart of a grieving mother is a wide abyss…. Ace sports broadcaster, Aisha Falode who lost her son, Toba Falode 8 months ago in Dubai has penned an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan. Citing her son and the son of former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alameiyeseigha’s cases, she urged the government to seek justice for the murder of young Nigerians in Dubai adding that more deaths might be recorded if urgent steps are not taken.
“Open letter to Nigerians 8 months after my son Toba was Murdered in Dubai,”
It is with a heavy heart that I read about the death of the son of Chief Alameiyeseigha on the streets of Dubai; an incident that immediately jolted me back in time thanks to the bizarre similarities to that of my son as regards “cause of death”.
My son was said by the Dubai authorities to have jumped down from a balcony, dismissing it as “suicide”, same with Chief Alameiyeseigha’s son.

I am saddened that this has happened despite my nationwide campaign to stop this happening AGAIN by putting all relevant government agencies on notice, in vain.

For record emphasis, my son was thrown from the balcony of a 17th floor apartment in Manchester Tower in Dubai. A Saudi boy resident in Dubai confessed to the murder; he had my son’s blood on his t-shirt, he had my son’s blood on his knuckles and boasted about serving time for 25 years in prison if it comes to the worst.

His murderer has a name.
There were witnesses to this murder, they have written statements verbally and orally corroborating what the murderer said. I have put all this together to make this easy for the Nigerian government to help me get justice for my son in Dubai.

I warned the Nigerian government that Nigerian youths were being killed in Dubai on a daily basis as confirmed  by our embassy in Dubai. I also warned parents about the danger of Dubai.
I also stated repeatedly, that if justice was not gotten for my son that another murder will happen. Indeed there have been many more after my son although not mentioned because they do not have a voice. But now, there is one so close to government that has been struck.

I did not have to be a soothsayer to know this. Many more will happen until we get Justice for Toba Falode, and all those who have been murdered in cold blood in Dubai.

We cannot stand by and watch our youths lives being down played over and above “collaboration and partnership” with a country that hates us with so much passion, that they are cutting down the lives of our young ones in cold blood crudely and viciously and yet we seek “partnership and collaboration” in investment with this same country.

Our ambassador in the UAE, Ambassador Ibrahim Auwalu, must be called back to Nigeria to answer to every young soul that has been lost to Dubai unaccounted for due to his lack of responsibility in office.
The Foreign Ministry also, must be asked questions on what they have done about Toba Falode’s case 8 months after. It took Israel less than 48 hours to act on the loss of their 3 youths.

8 months after Toba Falode’s murder, we are still waiting on the Nigerian government to give us any kind of reaction on the loss of a young life-Toba Falode in Dubai.

Even after submitting every evidence, our protest, police reports corroborating the fact that my son was murdered, we still have gotten no response at all from the Nigerian government.

Take a queue from Israel.

And the Nigerian Government for once should start acting like a big country with so much might and power that it is in the continent and indeed in the world and go after Dubai for justice for every young soul and every Nigerian life that has been cut short in Dubai.

We send our sympathy and condolences to DSP Alamieyeseigha.

We empathise with the family and friends of their son, because we have been through and are still going through it and it is nothing we wish for any parent which was our concern from the start.
This, is one death too many. May it not happen again.

Oscar Pistorius sentenced to 5 years in prison

Seven months after his trial began, South African athlete, Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison for the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He was initially cleared of murder but convicted of culpable homicide. His family has confirmed that he won’t appeal the sentence.

Tragic! Footballer dies after celebrating goal

Goal celebration gone wrong! A 23 year-old footballer, Peter Biaksangzuala died in India over the weekend while celebrating a goal he had scored.

 

He fell backwards on his head as he somersaulted and then injured his spinal cord during the process; as he writhed in pain on the ground, his teammates also jumped on him to celebrate, when they saw how badly injured he was, they requested for a stretcher to rush him to hospital.

 

He died on Sunday after his condition worsened and attempt to repair his spine proved abortive. He donated his eyes shortly before he gave up.

Ebola: Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf writes open letter to the world.

Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in an open letter has called for global collaboration to fight the deadly Ebola Virus Disease which has ravaged West Africa and killed 4,500 people. Below is the letter which was broadcast on BBC.

Dear World, 

In just over six months, Ebola has managed to bring my country toa standstill. We have lost over 2,000 Liberians. Some are children struck down in the prime of their youth. Some were fathers, mothers, brothers or best friends Many were brave health workers that risked their lives to save others, or simply offer victims comfort in their final moments.
There is no coincidence Ebola has taken hold in three fragile states – Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea – all battling to overcome the effects of interconnected wars. In Liberia, our civil war ended only eleven years ago. It destroyed our public infrastructure, crushed our economy and led to an exodus of educated professionals.

A country that had some 3,000 qualified
doctors at the start of the war was dependent by its end on barely three dozen. In the last few years, Liberia was bouncing back. We realized there was a long way to go, but the future was looking bright.

Now Ebola threatens to erase that hard work. Our economy was set to be larger and stronger this year, offering more jobs to Liberians and raising living standards. Ebola is not just a health crisis – across West Africa, a generation of young people risk being lost to an economic catastrophe as harvests are missed, markets are shut and borders are closed.
The virus has been able to spread so rapidly because of the insufficient strength of the emergency, medical and military services that remain under-resourced and without the preparedness to confront such a challenge. This would have been the case whether the confrontation was with Ebola, another infectious disease, or a natural disaster.
But one thing is clear. This is a fight in which the whole world has a stake. This disease respects no borders. The damage it is causing in West Africa, whether in public health, the economy or within communities – is already reverberating throughout the region and across the world. The international reaction to this crisis was initially inconsistent and lacking in clear direction or urgency. Now finally, the world has woken up.
The community of nations has realized they cannot simply pull up the drawbridge and wish this situation away. This fight requires a commitment from every nation that has the capacity to help – whether that is with emergency funds, medical supplies or clinical expertise.
I have every faith in our resilience as Liberians, and our capacity as global citizens, to face down this disease, beat it and rebuild. History has shown that when a people are at their darkest hour, humanity has an enviable ability to act with bravery, compassion and selflessness for the benefit of those most in need.
From governments to international organisations, financial institutions to
NGOs, politicians to ordinary people on the street in any corner of the world, we all have a stake in the battle against Ebola. It is the duty of all of us, as global citizens, to send a message that we will not leave millions of West Africans to fend for themselves against an enemy that they do not know, and against whom they have little defence.
The time for talking or theorizing is over. Only concerted action will save my country, and our neighbours, from experiencing another national tragedy.

not the same deep impression as does a single deed.
