Report: Nigerian has the 5th strongest army in Africa.

According to AITonline, the Nigerian Army has been named the 5th strongest military in Africa. The country occupied the 4th position last year. Egypt leads the pack in this year’s top 5 rank and it is followed by Algeria, Ethiopa, South Africa and then Nigeria.

“Nigeria has the second largest army by number of troops on the continent, but due to political instability and lack of equipment, it has been ranked just the fifth strongest country in Africa. The country has more than 1,400 armoured vehicles, 360 tanks, and 6,000 logistical vehicles at its disposal, as well as nearly 300 aircraft and 25 high-powered naval vessels. The army has been criticised for their heavy-handed manner in dealing with civilians during anti-Boko Haram operations in the North-east.”

Meet Rob O'Neil, the US Navy seal who killed Osama Bin Laden.

Rob O’ Neil has been unmasked as the Navy Seal who fired 3 shots to the forehead of the lat‎e terrorist, Osama Bin Laden during the raid on a compound Abbottabad in Pakistan, on 2 May 2011.

The 38 year-old whose identity has been shrouded in secrecy by US officials since 2011 has undertaken more than 400 combat missions and was decorated 52 times as a member of SEAL Team six.

He decided to come out public because he has lost some of his military benefits due to quitting the SEALs after 16 years, instead of completing the stipulated 20-year service.


But isn’t his family worried about their safety after this revelation? His father, Tom said, “People are asking if we are worried that ISIS will come and get us because Rob is going public. I say I’ll paint a big target on my front door and say come and get us,”

Meyiwa: South Africa Football Association flags off 'gun campaign'

South Africa Football Association has flagged off a campaign to collect, melt illegal guns and build a statue in honour of the national team goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa who was killed in a robbery incident on October 26 at his girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, Johannesburg.
Danny Jordaan, the South African Football Association President hopes people with this illegal weapons would come out and surrender them.
He said in a statement, “We need to mop up illegal guns and destroy them. The campaign aims to save lives so we are appealing to society to hand in all illegal guns.”

Again? Robbers invade Bafana Bafana footballer's home.

Less than 2 weeks after South Africa goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed at his girlfriend’s house in Johannesburg, Bafana Bafana star, Sibusiso Vilakazi’s home was also invaded. But thankfully no one was harmed.

According to reports, the armed robbers held the family at gunpoint last Saturday after asking for the Bidvest Wits captain. When they couldn’t reach him, they took several valuable items and left.

“It happened after 12 and I was sleeping in one of the rooms at the back. They asked about my whereabouts and the keys of my car. My mom, father and young brother were hold hostage by the criminals. They took cash, TV set, music system, wedding rings from my parents and some of my clothing.

“Everything happened when I was sleeping and I didn’t hear anything. Imagine if woke up and went in what would have happened.” The Bafana Bafana midfielder narrated to Kick Off.

President Goodluck Jonathan to unveil the new N100 bank note tomorrow.

I’m sure nobody thought of seeing a new bank note this year. Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan will tomorrow, Wednesday November 5, 2014 unveil the new commemorative N100 banknote by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In a statement made available on Monday, the Apex bank said the commemorative note was part of its contribution to the country’s centenary celebration. The new note retains the portrait of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, comes in different colours and contains other new features.

 

“The choice of the N100 denomination is to mark the centenary celebration of Nigeria and is consistent with best global practices for central banks around the world during the celebration of national events. Part of the features of the commemorative banknote is the inscription of the theme of the centenary celebration: ‘One Nigeria, Great Promise’ as a micro-text.

 “While retaining the portrait of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo on the front, the new note features Nigerian traditional dancers at the back. The commemorative note comes in different dominant colours.” The CBN wrote.
