Yippee! Twitter is getting Yoruba translation.


This is quite commendable and kudos to the team behind this. Just like Wikipedia and Google, Twitter is set to add Yoruba language to its list of translations.
The campaign to get support for the language on the social networking site commenced on March 1st, 2012 with about 24,000 tweets posted in Yoruba language and another 38,000 posted on ‘tweet Yoruba day’ in 2013. Twitter noticed the campaign and promised that support would come in a few months.
Meanwhile, Kola Tubosun (@baroka on Twitter), a Yoruba scholar and linguist and other brains behind this project are working on translating Twitter’s standard glossary of terms to Yoruba and once this is done, Yoruba will be the only other African language asides Afrikaans (currently in beta) to be supported by the network.

Blessing Okagbare's honeymoon disrupted as Embassy denies hubby visa

Nigeria’s Queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare is unhappy at the moment and the reason isn’t far-fetched. The US embassy in Abuja has denied her hubby Jude Igho Otegheri visa to travel to Los Angeles, USA with her for their honeymoon.
A very  dejected  Blessing told Vanguard,
“I feel so bad that America Embassy would turn down the visa request by my husband to travel with me to Los Angeles. I have  resumed training for the season and I have to go back to my base with my husband so that I can concentrate.

“I have sent copies of my documents, including my Resident Permit in Los Angeles to them so as to facilitate my husband’s traveling with me to the States, but they refused. Help me appeal to them to grant him visa because it won’t be easy for me to shuttle between Nigeria and the States every time.

“I have to concentrate on my training and the only way to do so is to have my husband with me in the States. I have been so sad since my husband returned from Abuja with this bad news. They have to do something about it.”

Wayne Rooney now third-highest goalscorer for England.

Who says he’s not yet qualified to be an England great? English footballer, Wayne Rooney has become the third highest goalscorer for England. He created the record after netting a brace during England’s game with Scotland yesterday.
The Manchester United star who scored his 45th and 46th international goals on his 101st appearance is now beyond Jimmy Greaves who scored a total of 44 goals for England. He’s now looking to surpass Gary Lineker and Sir Bobby Charlton’s records.

We Broke Your Hearts: Nelson Mandela's glasses sculpture defaced in South Africa.

A group called Tokolos Stencil Collective have defaced the  Ray-Ban sun glasseps sculpture erected in the memory of the late former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela in Cape Town. Titled, ‘Perceiving Freedom’, the brilliant piece of art was done by Michael Elion. ‎
The vandals who stencilled ‘We broke your hearts’ and ‘Myopic Arts’ on the lenses of the glasses believe that it is not only commercially exploitative but is disrespectful to Mandela, because his eyes were severely damaged by the blinding whiteness of the limestone quarry he was forced to work on the island
Shortly after defacing the statue, the  radical activism group  sent out this statement.
 “As requested, Tokolos has heeded the call. You’re welcome to have someone check out the new and improved Ray-Ban Madiba glasses this morning before the authorities arrive… Aluta continua… Tokolos.”

Joan Rivers’ ‘Fashion Police’ replacement unveiled.

Comedienne cum actress, Kathy Griffin has been unveiled as Joan Rivers’ successor on the ‘Fashion Police’ show on E!.
Albeit there hasn’t been any official confirmation but her position according to TMZ is a done deal. ‎Kathy will now team up with Melissa Rivers, Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic. The website also added that the show will no longer be a weekly series.

Epic foes, ‎Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi met again at the Old Trafford during the international friendly between Portugal and Argentina last night.
The World Best footballers were the cynosure of all eyes as they embraced, smiled and exchanged jokes with each other during the game. The only goal scored during the match was delivered at the 90th minute by Portugal’s Raphael Guerreiro.
