A word for Professor Yemi Osinbajo | By: Femi Fani-Kayode

I am glad that the APC eventually took my advice and saw the wisdom in not fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the 2015 Presidential election even though I hear that, right up till the last minute, they almost did.

I congratulate my friend and brother Professor Yemi Osinbajo on his nomination as the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC and running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari.

I have known Yemi for a number of years and I must say that he is not only a very pleasant and civilised person with a warm and gentle disposition but he is also a cerebral lawyer with a brilliant mind. I have immense respect for him.

Yet sadly ever since I heard about his nomination and announcement as Buhari’s running mate I have felt nothing but sheer pity for him and a deep sense of pathos. My counsel and words for him are as follows:

Woe unto the children of light that secretly delight in darkness and that seek to thwart the counsel of God for their nation by joining hands with the sons of Boko and the daughters of Haram.

The bible says “what fellowship is there between light and darkness?” It says “what does God have to do with Belial?” It says “what profiteth a man to gain the world and lose his soul?”.

A respected Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a devout and committed Christian and an intellectually-sound, well-bred and well educated Professor of Law accepts to be running mate to a closet fundamentalist, a bloodthirsty, cruel and murderous military dictator and a die-hard believer in the philosophy of “born to rule”? This is serious.

A gifted servant of God who is a favored spiritual son of Rev. Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God has jumped into bed with one of the most notorious troublers of the faith and one of the most consistent enemies of democracy and Nigeria? This is very sad.

Rev. Enoch Adeboye is undoubtedly one of God’s greatest and most respected generals on the planet and one of the Church’s most humble and best-loved precious gems, yet one of his spiritual sons has surely let him, and indeed the Kingdom of God, down by choosing to play “man Friday” and second fiddle to an individual that represents everything that is troubling, unsettling and repugnant to the modern world and to the 21st century? What a tragedy.

A learned Professor of Law and a senior member of the Nigerian bar who is the leading authority on the law of evidence and who has written numerous books on that topic chooses to play number two to a man that failed all his exams at military college and that never went to a decent school or to any university? Jumping Jehoshaphat.

It is only in Nigeria that this sort of thing can happen. Poor Yemi. Look at what the Haramites have done to him and look at what they have reduced him to. Is there anything that these creatures from hell will not do? Is there anyone that they will not use and is there any norm that they will not defile, pervert, debase, violate and corrupt in their ignoble quest for power and as a consequence of their insatiable lusts and manifest greed?

The truth is that each and everyone one of us, including my friend Yemi, will ultimately have to answer to God for the choices that we make and we must live with the consequences of those choices. It is no wonder that the Redeemed Christian Church of God has disassociated itself from a false claim that the Church and, by implication, Rev. Adeboye himself, was supporting the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket.

Thankfully they have come out to say clearly and categorically that this is not so. One can always trust Adeboye to do and say the right thing because he is a man that is truly “after God’s heart”.

Yet the denial of an endorsement and tacit support from his Church is just the first of many shockers and unwelcome surprises that Yemi will be served with in the next few weeks. He will get shock after shock and surprise after surprise until the battle is over and circumstances compel him to go back to his very lucrative legal practice.

Yet before he does that he should learn a thing or two from one of his esteemed colleagues and yet another Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the courageous Pastor Bosun Emmanuel. Bosun said the following words in his famous sermon titled ‘The Nigerian Church’ which went viral just a few months ago.

He said, “woe be unto any believer who joins hands with the enemies of God in an attempt to bury the Church and destroy the gospel”. This was a timely admonition and these are strong and wise words from a true servant of God who is under no illusion about what is going on in the politics of Nigeria and who is brave enough to say it as it is.

Yet whether we choose to heed Bosun’s words or not I am absolutely certain of one thing: those that have aligned with the servants of Satan and the children of darkness and that seek to thwart God’s counsel for our nation shall not prevail.

Boko Haram abducted 185 women in Borno state on December 18th and they killed no less than 52 innocent people. Despite that some people are still supporting Buhari and his army of desperate Haramites? What a people, what a country.

Those that say that Buhari has changed simply because he chose a Pastor as his running mate are ignorant. Did he not have a Pastor as his running mate in his last outing in 2011? Did he not still say that it was his intention to “spread sharia throughout the country” and that “an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north”?

Did he not oppose a state of emergency in the north eastern states and say that it was unfair for the military to kill Boko Haram members? Did he not say that instead of killing them they should forgive them, pamper them and treat them in the same way that the Niger Delta militants were treated?

Did the spokesman of his party Alhaji Lai Mohammed not say that the proscription of Boko Haram by the Federal Government was ”unjust” and ”unconstitutional”? How does the fact that Buhari has opted for a Christian running mate change any of these things?

In any case he only opted for a Christian running mate because he was compelled to do so as a consequence of the hue and cry that the prospect of a Muslim/Muslim ticket had already started to generate. Are those that cite the fact that he has a Christian running mate as evidence of his new-found love for Christians aware of the fact that during the American civil war a small, ignorant, misguided and deluded group of negro slaves actually fought on the side of the southern confederate forces in an attempt to keep slavery in place?

Did that suggest that the leaders of the southern confederate ”secession” states suddenly changed their minds and fell in love with the blacks that they had enslaved and treated like animals? Is Buhari’s claim of not being partial to his own Hausa-Fulani tribe not a little far-fetched? Did he not lead a northern delegation to Alhaji Lam Adesina, the late Governor of Oyo state, just a few years ago when some Fulani herdsmen were slaughtering Yoruba farmers on their own land and ask him ”why are YOUR people killing MY people?” Apparently Buhari believed that the aggressors that had invaded the land and farms of others and that killed all the occupants had a right to do so simply because they were Fulani. Yet some people still claim that the man is not a tribalist.

Ignorance and lack of knowledge is a terrible affliction but in this context it is not only terrible but also very dangerous. Buhari’s choice of a Christian Pastor as his running mate means nothing and changes nothing about him or his entrenched views and ancient mindset.

It rather provides clear evidence of his sheer desperation to win power at all costs and it is a reflection of his obvious and deep-seated deceit. Let the truth be told even though the heavens may fall: Christian Vice President or no Christian Vice President, Buhari’s heart remains as dark as ever.

Woman lists 50 reasons why a woman doesn't need a man.

Written by Claudia Connell for Daily Mail. The writeup is a response to an article titled reasons for needing a man. Claudia who has never been married strongly believes that a woman is capable of handling all the issues in her home/life without any interference from any man. Find her reasons below.

1) Self-replacing loo roll would be a great invention to have on Dragon’s Den. But until then, I don’t need a man to use up a roll and then not put a new one on the holder.

2) After 48 years I know what suits me and what doesn’t. I do not need a man to critique my outfit or hairstyle before I leave the house.

3) I don’t need a man to yack all the way through Strictly then ‘Shh’ me when Top Gear comes on.

4) I am too old for spangly (and itchy) lingerie. I definitely don’t need a man to buy me rubbish Christmas presents.

5) I’m unbeatable at board games. I don’t need a man to pretend to let me win at Scrabble on Christmas Day.

6) I can have a conversation without it becoming a debate. Not everything needs to be turned into a competition.

7) When I’m lost, I ask for directions. I do not need a man who’d rather stay lost for hours because, in his world, asking for help is akin to chemical castration.

8) The TV remote control is a device that changes channels — it is not a life-support system. I do not need a man who thinks it is and has to have it prised out of his hands.

9) I like my bathroom sink to be sparkly and clean. I do not need a man to leave foamy bristles all over it.

10) I’ve yet to meet a man who can stack a dishwasher logically so the pans don’t fill with water. I do not need a man to incur my dishwasher rage.

11) Yes, I know that statistically I have more chance of being murdered than I do of winning the lottery — but I live in hope (of winning the lottery, not being murdered), and I don’t need a man to point out this statistic every time I buy a ticket.

12) Do men really think us women haven’t caught on to the ‘leaving it to soak’ trick? I don’t need a man to avoid washing up the turkey roasting tray.

13) If I want someone to not listen to a word I say or respond, I have the wall for that, like Shirley Valentine.

14) I like my butter soft, slightly salted and crumb-free. I do not need a man to put dirty knives in it.

15) Stepladders are handy little inventions that mean I don’t need a tall man to fetch things off high shelves or put the star on my Christmas tree.

16) Assembling flat-pack furniture is a doddle. I don’t need a man to not follow the instructions properly and insist you don’t need all the screws that are supplied. You do.

17) I’ve got locks on my doors, bars on my windows and an alarm. I’d like to see a man do a better job of protecting me.

18) I enjoy my annual outing to Ladbrokes to put a bet on the Grand National. I understand the odds and everything. I don’t need a man to do it for me or sneer at my choice of horse.

19) I can cook a meal without using every pot and pan in the kitchen. I don’t need a man to turn it into a bombsite.

20) Used teabags go in the bin, 1ft away from the kitchen sink. I don’t need a man to fill my sink with them.

21) I don’t need a man to come home and spend two hours telling me about his day without once asking me about mine.

22) Gas barbecues are a brilliant invention. I don’t need a man to light a barbecue for me.

23) Laundry needs to be done on different wash cycles. I don’t need a man to ruin my cashmere by not reading the labels.

24) I can pay for my own meals in restaurants — his too, if necessary.

25) When I can’t do a DIY job, I admit it. I don’t need a man to insist he can, then mess it up.

26) I am irresponsible with money but it’s mine to be irresponsible with. I don’t need a man to justify my spending to.

27) At work? On the train? Had a sandwich for lunch? I don’t need a man to check in with constant mundane updates about his day.

28) I’ve got a nifty little gadget from Lakeland that captures spiders — something else I don’t need a man for.

29) I like Baileys with ice at this time of year. I definitely don’t need a man to not refill the ice trays. This is possibly the most rage-inducing thing ever.

30) I don’t need a man to mow my lawn. I had it paved over when I moved in, to create the lowest- maintenance garden. It’s wonderful.

31) Emptying the bin takes seconds. I don’t need a man to treat it like a skip and try and build it up at the sides with cardboard in order to cram more in.

32) While I like mince, I don’t want to eat it seven times a week thanks to a man whose culinary repertoire doesn’t extend beyond spag bol, chilli and plain old fried mince.

33) When I can’t open a tight jar, I stab the lid, release the pressure — and hey presto. No man required.

34) I can read restaurant menus and wine lists. I don’t need a man to order for me.

35) My parking skills are second to none. I do not need a man to park my car for me or guide me out of a tight space — or comment while I’m doing both.

36) The offside rule really isn’t that complicated. It’s just boring. I don’t need or want it explained to me

37) When my clothes feel tight, I know I’ve gained weight. I don’t need a man to point it out, grab rolls or tell me I’m ‘so cuddly’.

38) Sometimes it’s nice to watch a cheesy, romantic movie at the cinema. I don’t need a man to sit next to me, sighing, tutting and muttering ‘for God’s sake’ all the way through.

39) Why do men have an over- whelming need to empty their pockets in random piles all over the house? I don’t need to walk around looking at abandoned change, chewing gum and tissues.

40) The AA Route Planner website has no reason to lie. I don’t need a man to insist that a journey the AA says will take two hours is ’45 minutes, tops’.

41) I like clothes to be neatly pressed. I don’t need a man to just iron the collar and cuffs because ‘that’s all anyone sees’.

42) When I read the newspaper I start at the beginning and finish on the last page. I don’t need a man to remove the sections and then put them all back in the wrong order.

43) Filling the petrol tank before it’s totally drained and the red warning light is flashing is not a sign of weakness. I don’t need a man to not put petrol in the car until there’s a teaspoon left.

44) I subscribe to an IT helpline. When my laptop breaks down I ring it, and the person at the end of the line fixes it remotely. I don’t need a man to ‘reboot’ it for me and lose the last two years of my work.

45) When I need odd jobs doing, I call a handyman service and make a one-hour booking. In that time, everything gets done without procrastination, whingeing or mess.

46) Making a list and sticking to it is the fastest, most efficient way to get around a supermarket. I don’t need a man to return home having bought nothing we need and 200 things we don’t.

47) I have embraced minimalist living. I couldn’t bear to live with a man who collects junk, has no idea what it’s for but insists it cannot possibly be thrown out.

48) Letting another car out in heavy traffic is a nice thing to do. I don’t need a man who reacts to this gesture as though I’ve just handed over a million pounds.

49) Not every retailer or tradesman who ever breathed ‘saw me coming’. Some things cost a lot of money — and I don’t need a man constantly trying to claim he could have found it cheaper elsewhere.

50) They’re your family. I don’t need a man who needs me to remember the birthdays of his parents, siblings, and nieces and to buy their Christmas presents.

Hilarious moments at The Headies 2014 | By: Lanre Odukoya

Nigeria’s most prestigious music award ceremony, The Headies held last Sunday amid fanfare. It left us some hilarious memories and here are the characters that made the soiree a really riveting one.

TOKE MAKINWA
On-air-personality Toke Makinwa and comedian Bovi Ugboma were supposed to anchor the show together, but for whatever reason, Bovi was absent. So, Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth stood in for him for a while. At some intervals, Toke Makinwa was left to engage the massive audience alone.
The task was so overwhelming that your darling V-logger was caught gasping for breath. She changed her outfits five times before the show ended. And the most disastrous for her was a moment when she stepped on stage in a jumpsuit that made her look almost like a clown. Whatever she had underneath looked so much like a diaper on an adult.
The audience couldn’t hold back the laughter provoked by her look, but the unsuspecting lady thought she was getting a sincere cheer. She was the wrong person for the job apparently.

BETWEEN SALAWA ABENI AND VICTOR UWAIFO
It might interest you to know that Waka queen, Salawa Abeni and Pa Victor Uwaifo made it to the award ceremony that would ordinarily look like one for today’s artistes. Abeni had spotted Uwaifo and made to exchange pleasantries with the septuagenarian.
For a few seconds, Uwaifo struggled to recognise Abeni until the latter repeatedly mentioned her name and perhaps, her former husband’s, Kollington Ayinla. How time flies.

KCEE
Singer, KCee’s Limpopo won the Song of the Year category. He came on stage to celebrate that victory with a live band to perform the song, Pull Over on stage.
With super theatrics, he charmed all especially with Saka and other comic dancers performing live, but he flawed the outing with his voice that sounded off beat throughout the performance. You’d almost be forced to ask, “did this guy rehearse at all?”

K1 AND PASUMA
Fuji musicians, K1 the Ultimate and Pasuma Wonder are in a lingering feud. Though, they appear to be keeping their cool, there are indications that highlight the existence of some rancour. They were both guests at the award ceremony.
Pasuma was on stage to present an award, as if it was intended to prove a point, the camera zoomed in on K1 where he was seated and the acclaimed King of Fuji wore a look that screamed rage. The fight isn’t over yet, obviously.

AYIRI EMAMI
Ayiri Emami, the Warri billionaire graced the show. As he walked past, he was asked by a curious team of journalists if
he was going to give Tayo Faniran (the Nigerian representative at the recent Big Brother Africa) $350,000 as has been
widely circulated. “I don talk am” was all he said as he walked past without responding to other questions

"I feel cheated!" Santos fan sues Neymar for joining Barcelona

Funny things happen in football! A heartbroken Santos fan has decided to sue Brazilian football star, Neymar Jnr for dumping his club for Barcelona.
Luciano Pereira Caparroz, a Brazilian lawyer filed the lawsuit against Neymar and N&N in a Sao Paulo courthouse a week ago for a total of €8,400 for moral and material damages.
He further explained that the amount was to cover the costs of his journey to Japan to support the team having spent the sum of €3,200 to attend the Club World Cup and watch Neymar and the rest of his team members play against Barcelona.
He was shocked to his wits later when he found out that his favourite player had signed a pre-contract to join Barcelona prior to their 2011 Club World Cup final in Japan.
“I’m a Santista, I go to all the games and I decided to travel to Japan to watch the Club World Cup.  I was left frustrated with the result and on top of that, later on we learned that Neymar was already sold.  I feel cheated.”

CNN’s ‘Inside Africa’ features prize-winning Nigerian photographers and artists from Lagos Photo Festival

This week on CNN International’s ‘Inside Africa’ programme, host Soni Methu offers viewers the chance to meet some prize-winning Nigerian photographers and artists at the Lagos Photo Festival.
In Makoko, the water-borne slum in Lagos dubbed “the Venice of Africa”, Methu discovers that although life in the community may be quite basic, it nevertheless inspires some great art from outsiders and its own.
One such artist is Sulayman Afose, who was born and bred in this floating town. His work is beginning to attract international attention with the capture of everyday images that inspire his art. Afose tells ‘Inside Africa’ he plans to inspire a younger generation to take up a lens by passing on the skills he has learnt in workshops, organised by the African Artists Foundation.
Also on the programme, Methu talks to another talented Nigerian photographer, Jenevieve Aken. The work of this model-turned-photographer has been on display in exhibitions across Nigeria, South Africa and Europe.
Her latest series is called ‘The Masked Woman’, and it portrays images of independent, professional women in Nigeria. She also features as the subject in some of the portraits. Aken gives ‘Inside Africa’ host Methu a crash course in photography, advising her: “It’s all about feel and emotion when it comes to portraits. So, I try to put feeling and I try to put emotions in every photograph I take.”
