No Time! Nollywood has produced a movie on General Buhari and President Jonathan (Photo)

I know you all saw this coming. I saw the “vision” clearly and I knew it will happen soon. Alas! So, a Nollywood ‘filmmaker’ decided to shoot a movie on President Goodluck Jonathan and President-Elect, General Buhari.
If they can shoot movies on Ebola, Bring Back Our Girls, Fuel Subsidy, World Cup among others, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Ermm, I hope General Buhari isn’t the fat, bearded man in the poster. This people had better be serious! President Jonathan was ‘well-represented’ so how can Buhari be this fat? Maybe it’s Asari then. #okbye

AFCON 2017: Gabon beats Ghana, Algeria to hosting rights.

The host country for the 2017 edition of the Orange African Cup Of Nations (AFCON 2017) is Gabon.
The announcement was made few minutes ago by Confederation of African Football (CAF)  President, Issa Hayatou.

According to reports, Man United have terminated their contract with Nike and have signed a world record deal with Adidas. Recall that the giant sportswear company  designed the club’s kits from 1980-1992.

"Using foreign currencies for local transactions will land you in jail" – CBN warns

The use of foreign currencies for local transactions or as a medium of exchange in the country is now a punishable offence, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warns.
CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele who made the announcement yesterday added that anyone convicted of such crime risked a six-month jail term.
The central bank observed that some individuals and corporate bodies had been using foreign currencies, especially the US dollar in daily transactions and this is against the provisions of the CBN Act, 2007.
A statement issued by the Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr. Ibrahim Muazu, reads, “The attention of the bank has been drawn to the increasing use of foreign currencies in the domestic economy as a medium of payment for goods and services by individuals and corporates.

“It has also been observed that some institutions price their goods and services in foreign currencies and demand payment in foreign currencies rather than the domestic currency (the naira), which is the legal tender in Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the attention of the general public is hereby drawn to the provision of the CBN Act of 2007, which states inter-alia that ‘the currency notes issued by the bank shall be legal tender in Nigeria…for the payment of any amount.”

“Furthermore, the Act stipulates that any person(s) who contravenes this provision is guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a prescribed fine or six months imprisonment.

“This prohibition, however, is without prejudice to foreigners, visitors and tourists who are encouraged to continue to use their cards for payments or exchange their foreign currencies for the local currency at any of the authorised dealers’ outposts.

“The general public is hereby advised to report any contravention of the provision of this Act to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the CBN for appropriate action.”

Prof Attahiru Jega gets certificate of commendation from President Obama.

Awww! We all agree he’s very deserving of the award. Outgoing chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has been presented with a Certificate of Commendation.

The honour was bestowed to him by US President Barack Obama. US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle who presented the certificate on behalf of President Obama noted that Jega’s performance was outstanding and worthy of emulation.

Jega expressed surprise at President Barack Obama’s decision to give him an award when the elections are still on.

Ebola: Police arrest 13 for unsafe burial.

Police in Sierra Leone stormed the outskirts of Freetown last week Thursday and arrested 13 people for organising an unsafe burial for  a 50 year-old man.
Police superintendent Da Samah said asides the fact that they risked the spread of the fatal disease, the organisers had no burial permit or other required documents required to organise the ceremony.
“We stopped the burial and we have put out an alert for an ambulance which eyewitnesses said brought the corpse to the cemetery,” he said.
Alimamy Kamara, head of the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) in Freetown added that culprits i.e people organising unsafe burials risked two-year jail terms.

“People should adhere to the government policy of safe and dignified burials so that we can end the high rate of transmission of the Ebola virus,” he concluded.

Didier Drogba opens hospital for children and less privileged women in Ivory Coast.

Touching lives where it matters most. This adds to the reasons ex Ivory Coast international, ‎Didier Drogba is a worshipped figure in his country. The Chelsea legend  has launched one of the five hospitals h‎e promised to build for his country as ‎part of his charity activities.

Adducing reasons for undertaking the project, the superstar sometime in 2009 said “When I visited a hospital in Abidjan this year, I was shocked by the terrible conditions. We hear about all the incurable diseases,  but these kids are just as likely to die from diabetes because there is no insulin available. It was then I decided the Foundation’s first project should be to build and fund a hospital giving people basic healthcare and a chance just to stay alive.”

The well-appointed $1 million ‎complex is situated in the Attecoube district of ‎‎Abidjan and has ‎like the ultrasound room, a maternal and child ‎protection unit, an x-ray block, an ultra modern laboratory, a ‎pharmacy and hospitalisation and isolation wards.

‎According to Guy Roland Tanoh, secretary of Didier Drogba Foundation, the new hospital will cater for less ‎privileged women and children in the Ivorian capital and is expected to treat around 50,000 patients every year‎.
‎
The remaining four hospitals are still under construction in the
cities of Yamoussoukro, San Pedro, Man and Korhogo and they will be launched in the coming months.

Court restrains DSTV from hiking subscription fees

Justice C. J Aneke of the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos has granted an order of interim injunction restraining Multichoice from enforcing its planned increase in cost of the different classes of its programmes on DSTV.
The suit was filed by Adebayo Osasuyi, a DSTV subscriber/customer, at the court in Ikoyi.

The Judge stated, “That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted to the parties to maintain the status quo restraining the 1st defendant (Multichoice/DSTV) from giving effect or enforcing its planned increase in cost of the different classes of viewing or programmes bouquet, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

“That an order is hereby granted certifying the plaintiffs’ claim as a class action for themselves as individual subscribers, other corporate subscribers, distributors and retailers of the 1st defendants’ services.
“That an order is hereby granted restraining any other person whether individual or corporate from instituting any other action as may be related to the action against the defendant to prevent multiplicity of lawsuits pursuant to the appointment of the plaintiffs in the class action but may instead opt in or out of this action”.

The case has been  adjourned to the 16th April 2015.‎

Oba of Lagos not a member of APC, he cannot speak for us – Tinubu

Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu while speaking at a rally held yesterday for the Gubernatorial candidate of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode said the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu is not a member of the APC and can not speak on behalf of the party.
This is coming few days after the paramount ruler came under fire for threatening the Igbos in the state with death.
The APC chieftain mentioned that he is the first Yoruba governor to ever appoint an Igbo commissioner ‎and that the opposition party are making baseless accusations against the APC.

Tinubu said, “The Oba is not a politician. His job is to accommodate all political parties whether PDP, APC or SDP. So, what did he (Ubah) go and do at the palace? Is the Oba a politician?

“To you Igbo, don’t we pay your children’s school fees like others? Or is it the palace that pays for it? When we conducted an exam and a spelling competition, an Igbo boy, Ebuka, from Anambra, came first and he became the governor for one day.
“Those that won the competition three times in a row were Igbo. Ebuka was sent to Switzerland computer school and then Obafemi Awolowo University. We did not say he was an Igbo boy and he would not enjoy. He became an executive in Oando and he is now in Canada.
“Another boy, Felix, won and went to Switzerland and OAU. We paid his scholarship; we did not deny him because he is Igbo.”

Rivers APC set to receive 10,000 PDP defectors

Arrangements have reached an advanced stage by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State to receive about 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have indicated interest in joining APC. Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, disclosed this in a statement issued Tuesdayin Port Harcourt.
“Rivers APC is pleased to welcome these patriots in advance and to assure them that they have a found a home in the party of liberation. We are happy with their decision that Rivers State must not be allowed to play opposition politics in the incoming Federal Government of General Muhammadu Buhari and have fixed Friday, 10th April, 2015, to formally receive them at the APC State Secretariat at Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt,” Ikanya said.
He described the decision of the mammoth crowd of PDP members to defect to APC as equivalent to the breaking of PDP’s backbone in Rivers State. “With this development, it would be safe to say that Rivers State PDP Leader and gubernatorial candidate, Chief Nyesome Wike, is now a commander without troops. 

Wike is irreversibly on his way to political oblivion and his fate shall become sealed on April 11 when he will be trounced by our governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, during the governorship polls,” Ikanya added.
